There are allegations of recruiting from one public school to another and there is a simple way to stop it all. . . you go to the school that serves the area where you live. No jumping boundaries. Period. End of statement. Everybody got all upset because the private schools can recruit and there is some recruiting going on in a few spots in the state. (Reference the kid who has played at at least three schools in metro Memphis). But it's real easy to end! If you don't like the school that serves the area in which you reside, move and actually establish residence there.

CBHS's secondary seemed to be an Achilles' heel during the Melrose game. Has anything been done to shore it up? I'm not in Memphis anymore and didn't see anything but the result of the Germantown-CBHS game.

There are not a lot of big track programs in rural areas of the state, therefore they don't have the tracks around their fields. A few programs do have moderately successful track programs in the rural areas of West Tennessee. Dyersburg comes to mind. Dyer County also has a nice track around the football field in their stadium, which is about 5 years old????? Anyway, most of the big time track programs in Tennessee now tend to be in the big metro areas.

I agree on both fronts. But good problems to have /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
With Lipscomb hosting A-Sun and MTSU hosting Sun-Belt a GREAT opportunity for colleges coaches (and fans) to get out and see some great high school ball (and coaches can check out some of the kids) when they are not playing and an equal opportunity for the high school kids and fans to see some great college baseball. Would be a fun week of baseball!
Too much a good thing can be problematic logistically. Hotel rooms are in short supply during Spring Fling. With two conference tournaments in the vicinity, it might be a real challenge for those of us from the farther reaches of the state from Murfreesboro to find accommodations.

Does anyone still manufacture the old style flip down sunglasses? They had an elastic strap to hold them to your head and went under the bill of your cap. Had the big ugly nose piece.
Have seen some recently in baseball equipment catalogs and J Macs Sporting Goods in Metro St. Louis. Maybe in Sports Authority stores. Not sure.
-
I have began to notice that several high schools fields run east to west and the sun for those 5:30 or 6 o'clock games are brutal on the outfielders. What kind of sunglasses work best for high school play and are there any rules about their use. Thanks for the info /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
As another posted said Oakley are top flite. Any sunglasses worn on the field must have a stamp or seal that shows they are shatter resistant or the umpire can/should have the glasses removed. Most of the cheap sunglasses do not meet the standard.

Some scores in this year's Spring Fling:
Give it a shot!!!
17-1, 20-1, 18-4, 21-2, 11-1, 10-0, 17-5, 13-1
I have sent various members of the TBCA (Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association) the 'modified Limbaugh plan'
The modified plan you ask? I tried to address all the issues that my friends at TSSAA raised with me during last year's Spring Fling with the original 'Limbaugh plan'. Those issues were a) travel and /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> fields without lights
I address that by staying true to some extent with the current method of travel and the only time a site would have two games at it would be on Saturday or Sunday in case of rain so lights are not a factor.
Let??™s look at next year??™s 5AAA, 6AAA, 7AAA and 8AAA for example... (I am choosing winners and runners up for example purposes only, and of course because I am Riverdale's SID - LOL!!!!)
5AAA let??™s say Cleveland wins tournament and Ooltewah finishes second
6AAA Cookeville wins tournament and Coffee Co finishes second
7AAA Shelbyville wins tournament and Columbia finishes second
8AAA Riverdale wins tournament and Siegel finishes second
Region Tournament (2010 is an even year)
Friday, May 14 (same travel as current plan)
6-2 at 5-1 Coffee Co at Cleveland
5-2 at 6-1 Ooltewah at Cookeville
8-2 at 7-1 Siegel at Shelbyville
7-2 at 8-1 Columbia at Riverdale
Saturday, May 15
Losers vs Losers at Cookeville
Winners vs Winners at Cookeville ??“ winner is Region Champion and moves on
Losers vs Losers at Riverdale
Winners vs Winners at Riverdale ??“ winner is Region Champion and moves on
Monday, May 17
Winner of Losers plays Loser of Winners at Cookeville ??“ winner is Region runner-up and moves on
Winner of Losers plays Loser of Winners at Riverdale ??“ winner is Region runner-up and moves on
Wednesday, May 19 (same travel as current plan)
Substate
Region 4 runner up at Region 3 champion
Region 3 runner up at Region 4 champion
Thursday, May 20
Losers vs Losers at Region 4 champion (even year)
Friday, May 21
Winners vs Winners at Region 4 champion ??“ winner advances to Spring Fling
Saturday, May 22
Winner of Losers plays Loser of Winners at Region 4 champion ??“ winner advances to Spring Fling
Spring Fling starts on Tuesday and ends on Saturday (I have almost convinced TSSAA of this ??“ with their new bidding process hosts need a larger crowd for Championship Day ??“ i.e. Saturday so most folks are off of work!)
Think we can we get this plan ratified by TBCA at their August meeting and presented to TSSAA???
What do ya think?

They had spring practice and have no idea how it went. Only thing I know is the football team was missing several players who were still playing baseball because of long post-season run.
-
I know that because I KNOW who you are....just messin' with you /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Lighten up my friend, all is well. I sat behind some kids from Dyersburg and talked to one for a few...nice young man. D-burg had a great season and this county has a lot to be proud of with both teams.
Just getting to state isn't enough anymore . . . gotta get to work.

ADSMOM since you called me out on here I will let you know that I extended my congratulations to dc in person at mtsu's stadium and texted a few personal congrats since then.

Collierville lost two in a row in district last year and did not make it to sub-state. I think Arlington beat Germantown last year, and yes, with Van Eaton the likley starter, U of Memphis signee, they could pull the "upset".
Man I'd love to see those games! Whew. Somebody please update with scores Friday night for those of us who have other games to attend.
-
You shouldn't worry to much about someone not making a district, region, state team. It is only a poll and few if anyone remembers who was on the team after the state tournament. I watched two players from the same high school make All-Region, All-City & All-State as juniors. They had a better senior season and made All-Region & All-City but did not make All-State because the coach failed to send in the necessary information. It really didn't matter as both players went on to play in college and do very well. I have also seen a kid that was not voted onto any team and he ended up pitching and winning the semi-final game in the college world series. Polls are worthless and political, the mlb scouts know who can play.
You are correct. Hey for that matter the kids know who can play.

Well said, I believe it was a great crowd on both sides of the field Wednesday night. Grownups can behave, when they want to. It was a great baseball atmosphere tonite. Everyone was a class act . Now lets root for both teams to make it to the Boro. I for one am pulling for both to get there. I am so proud of both the Trojans & Choctaws for a great season. Now lets all go to the Boro and paint the town. Lets show them what High School Baseball is all about in Northwest Tennessee. All they have to do is beat the two Memphis teams left. It will be a tall order, but an order I think we can fill. "GO BIG ORANGE" & TROJANS!!!!!!
I'd sure like to see one more Trojan-Choctaw battle this season . . . because somebody around here would be toting home a state title. But there is a lot of work for both teams to do before we can even think about that. First things first. Talent + Execution = Success!!!!!

This young man is in our prayers and I'm an encouraged by the response from the young men at Wartburg. Some parents did something right!

Congrats to Dyersburg & Dyer Co. on two great wins. Lets hope everyone comes out Wedesday night and supports each team with class and dignity. I believe they have both earned it. No matter who wins they are both from our county and we should all be very proud of that. We are so blessed to have great ball players on both teams. So lets show some respect and honor our ballplayers with a great crowd on both sides of the field. " GO CHOCTAWS"
Well said. They should both take care of business at sub-state and move on to the Murf. Time to have a little fun. It's why you play the game -- a chance to compete.
I would be remise if I didn't say well done to Preston Overby. I have a lot of respect for him. I know he was pumped going into the game against Dyersburg and obviously pitched very well. Joey also pitched extremely well. 1-0 game is about all you can say.
-
congrats to dyersburg. im not much of a baseball guy, but its going to be great if both dyersburg and dyer county make it to state. is the region championship tommorrow or thursday?
Wednesday.
Congrads to Dburg. Who pitched for both teams?
Joe Wilder for Dyersburg and Preston Overby for USJ. Both guys obviously pitched very well.
-
So.....I remember at the beginning of the season someone said that Dyersburg would be weak this year. I bet they feel silly about now. I knew then that D'burg would be our biggest competitor in the district. I actually think this years team is stronger than last. What's so different cause I also know yal graduated some great players last year.
More of a team. For the most part people accepting their roles. Really kinda like DC with the 35 different lineups PO has had.
-
OH....too close for comfort!!!! Our guys have GOT to start hitting like they were earlier in the season. This just isn't good on an 'ol lady!!!!
We lost some close ones earlier in the year -- two one-run games in Florida. Maybe that made us a little tougher when it really counted.
-
Definately and one went as far to say it didn't matter if it were DC, D'burg, Milan or Martin cause none could hang with USJ. Thank you Dyersburg for proving that person wrong. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
We were due on this one. Finally got them. Heard you guys had a heart stopper, too.
-
no clue as to what you are talking about...just spit it out.
Trey Tate of Gibson County should have been on the All District and even all dist. tourney team. No way, especially the all dist, he should be left off. But this issue is bigger than this one instance. I've seen it for years going back to my playing days. That's why I laugh at the polls in high school. If the people in charge can't get a regular season all-dist team right, how can they evaluate teams they've never seen from across the state.
-
CONGRATULATIONS Dyersburg!!! GREAT WIN!!
Guess all those people who said our district was down this year when the season started are eating a little humble pie tonight.
-
-
DC vs. Dyersburg. Round 5. Ah . . . they're both going to sub-state and SHOULD advance from there.
Henry County 3-0 again
in Class 5A & Class 6A
Posted
I take it Henry County is LOOOOAAAAADDDDDED again (apologies to Ron White).
