  1. this freshman class has some pretty good players. the class behind them has some great players. i've coached them in baseball and know there ability. the sophomores and next years juniors have some phenominal players.check out our baseball team this spring and you'l see!

Baseball does not translate to football nor vice versa.

  2. I know more than you obiviously think I do. What suggestion would you have about scheduling? Let's here it...

We could have gone 7-3 this year with a few cupcakes but what do you want? By no means do I think Huntingdon will win the state title every year but every small school has years where the talent level drops off. We went 7-3 last year and beat Milan so what do you think. Was the talent up or down for HHS last year? What's your thoughts?

You're now aware of who we HAVE to play in district so go ahead and make us out a schedule...

You play Big Sandy in baseball and then face JCS in tourney time then your players have no idea of the quality and speed of the game. Same applies to football. 99% of the fans will agree with me that you don't gain a thing playing weak teams. I guess you're in the 1%. I'd like to see your schedule..

I mentioned earlier was the questioning of having DC on the schedule and not Lexington. DC would have beat Lexington so this would have been a wash. If the Huntingdon boys can't cut it then they can always play in the band.... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I look forward to next year along with the rest of the Mustang fans.

Now, now now love. Your tongue is getting all over itself.

  3. I don't think you understand scheduling. First of all, if you want to bring in the gate money to support a program, you have to schedule the best of the best (Milan, Westview etc) that will bring a crowd.

Secondly, I think playing tough competition does make you better. So you think a HS kid will practice just as hard for a game they know they should win 50-0 compared to a week when they play Milan, when everyone knows that week if you don't practice with all you got and don't play with all you got, you will likely get embarrassed 60-0???

And by the way, teams in the NFL don't use that logic because:

    a) they play the schedule the NFL tells them to

    /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> they are pro's with a salary cap - in theory, talent should be relatively equal

So red boiling springs should be state champs, right? Yes kids will practice hard because like adults they like to win. Titans you win the grand prize today for having a brain.

  4. RedGrange.. I think you may have missed my point and I'll take exception to Huntingdon playing tough teams. I just thought we should play Lexington who we have played since 1930. Why schedule Dyer County which is an hour and a half away and when they come here they didn't bring 100 people. About 25 more than Waverly did... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> HHS and Lexington used to be like the Milan and HHS game is now. Always packed and great games in the past.

Huntingdon has never backed down from playing anybody and swapping Lexington for Dyer County would be just what the Huntingdon fans would like to see. Maybe they couldn't work it out the other night at the meeting.

The Mustangs have always played Milan,Westview,Mckenzie and Camden and then UC many times recently. Only when they redid the scheduling we couldn't fit these games into a certain slot/date.

Do the Mustang fans want to go 9-1 and lose in the 2nd round or possibly go 7-3 and win the state? You get better by playing the best competition. Personally I'd rather win the State Title. With Swenson only having 8 days to install his offense and Coach Miller his defense in the spring and then opening up with possible 2-AA finalist Milan was tough to say the least. The Mustangs will look and be a totally different team next year. Losing 8 Seniors and having about 20 Freshmen move up looks good for the future.

What do you want to cry about?

You obviously have no idea how scheduling works so i won't go there. And please, don't give me the old "you get better by playing better teams" line. This isn't the nfl. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> and its not 1965 either.

  5. This is the toughest non region schedule i've seen in a long time around here. One thing I don't get. We are playing Milan (3A), Martin(3A), Mckenzie(2A), Union City(1A), Camden(3A), and Dyer Co(5A). and Mr Mustang is crying about not playing lexington.Maybe they need to take him to the scheduling meeting next time. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I don't know if our current talent level can support playing this schedule IMO. It might have been different 7 or 8 years ago but to anyone with eyes this will be one huge challenge for this staff and team.

  6. Yeah, your's could be right as well but.........I think I might want to change my number 3. I know that HC leads the state in scoring with 509 points so far, BUT if Holder has a night against JCS like he did against USJ and the Mustangs hang another 63 on the Eagles, i'll go with Huntingdon/JCS as the highest scoring game.

I don't understand how that happens though........they only score 7 against McKenzie, Camden, & Dyer County then through up 63! Unbelievable. By the way, below are the other's points up to this point for those also wanting to weigh in. There are some powerful offenses around.

    HC-509

    Milan-481

    UC-441

    Lake Co-388

    Fairley-381

    Gleason-355

    Mckenzie-330

    JCS-329

    Hunt-291

    Westview-276

I think I can answer your question about H'towns scoring. Early in the year they killed themselves. Penalties, fumbles,,etc. Against all those teams mentioned they blew scoring opps and chances to either put games away or stay in those games. Since the waverly game they have curtailed those mistakes and seem to be bent on literally driving the football up peoples tails. It brings back memories of earlier mustang teams that made runs in the playoffs. Their defense has matured. Remember, this is a very young team with a new staff and new offensive and defensive systems. I haven't seen Jcs play and know they are good so i'd expect a slobber knocker. It really jacks me up for the prospects of next year.

  7. Sounds like the D line either gets the job done or they don't. Who has the hosses? Guess we'll see Friday night.

It most definitely turns into a bad man contest. This game will come down to each teams defense being able to get one or two stops on the opponent. Who else in the state runs Huntingdon's style of offense? I'm curious

  8. JCS needs 2 stack the box. With a safety 10 yards off the ball and you will win. USJ supposedly from everything I hear never had a safety.

    JCS by 14

    JCS @ Milan round 3.

I've seen teams bring all eleven to within three yards of theline of scrimmage this year and still they run.

  9. I have been watching huntingdon football for at least 19 yrs and I truly do not remember seeing a more punishing, relentless ground attack as I have seen the last five weeks. Its hard for me to explain. I've seen better lineman, better backs, etc. but i've never seen the kind of explosiveness i've witnessed lately.

  10. So I mean NO disrespect by this at all, I'm just curious because I wasn't at the game....

But did the line really get THAT good? Or was it because USJ had 4 turnovers that helped the 'Stangs get the edge they needed?

Granted, I (a Milan fan), know all too well that Huntingdon is one of the best "do-or-die" teams in the West. But after I heard about the 4 turnovers from USJ (and we know how key those can be aganist a team like USJ who has a harder time stopping the run), I wondered if Huntingdon has gotten that much better this year, or just made those key plays. Just curious because I've not seen them since Week 1, but I've heard from some of their fans that they just didn't have that Mustang glow this year. Anywho...good luck this week 'Stangs.

Let me put it this way. Huntingdon had three turnovers themselves so to answer your question, no. IMO Huntingdon has gotten much better especially the last four weeks. Granted this is not the most talented team i've seen by a long long shot but as sometimes happens with a young team, they are gaining confidence weekly. I've heard through the grapevine that milan appears to be looking rather slovenly.....any truth to those rumors?

  11. Better check your stats. They have run the ball effectively all year and that includes against Milan. Last night they were 1 for 2 with a td. Now thats a passing game! This team is hot right now, there is no denying that fact. Their defense is playing much better. But the best thing......almost everyone will be back next year. And as far as living on past accomplishments....well, we're all doing that aren't we? Oh yes, and my understanding is that we will continue to play....even if you are 3A.
