  1. This group of Seniors have a bond rarely seen. I remember my son’s teachers in Elem. saying how different this group was. Then in Middle school the group expands and the teachers still felt the bond, even now at DB with the two schools coming together, this Senior class is very close. It's not just the football seniors (although a huge presence), but the whole class of 2011 is solid. These kids have each other’s back and for the most part accept each other for who they are. It’s been fun to watch them grow, and I am looking forward to seeing what they do with their lives after High School.

    One Team, One Tribe…

    Roll Tribe!

  2. When did Sullivan South lose? And who beat them?

South v.Davey Crockett - Monday's game ended at a tie due to darkness/no lights at South. OT was played Tuesday at 5:30 and from what I gather South lost in PK's. Crockett then went on to play Central about 8:30 Tuesday night - Central won.

  3. the radio said it was the brother of a janitor who was stopped by a school resource officer. He made a move to go towards where the studends were and that is when he was shot. Good job people. Someone who goes to our schools with a weapon should be treated no better than a terrorist and that goes for if he survives and when he is convicted.

  4. Your allways going to have kids that are not "team players" and fans as well.We all want to have goals and dreams as players and for our kids when they play, but most are team players and give their all to DB.In short, yes I think this is a team and will go forward with a win or loss against Farragut.I know that a few of last years seniors have worked with our team in the off season{weights and some other things} and want the program to do well. The Maryville game was the last one and that is hard nomatter who you lose to.DB has allways competed well with schools around the state and I hope they can be back to what we are used to in Kingsport this year

I think the mindset of the team has a lot to do with the team leaders, and this years team is well led. For the most part the seniors are an extremely close bunch. Starter or not, most of them have played some sort of ball together and against each other since second grade. I remember some very fierce competitions between them, but after the game they were friends and the parents were friends. I don't see any of these guys pointing fingers at eachother (or anyone else) if things get tuff.

  5. You don’t get it do you??? Let me try and draw a picture for you since you obviously can’t read between the lines. Ok…….. You have two fishermen… right. The one from THS has to fishing from the banks of Steels Creek with his tackle box and pole, while the fisherman from DB backs his bass boat into Patrick Henry Reservoir at Warriors State Park. Now… they both bring home 10 fish, but if you had to put your money on the one who brought in the best catch of the day…. and you had to do it sight unseen… which one would it be. So the point is… with almost (and maybe over by now) twice as many students to choose form, chances are DB would be able to land more of the “Big Ones†on their boat than THS. Now Bud… frame this… and put it next to your computer, so you don’t come on here soundin special the next time this subject comes up.

You don't think THS landed a big one with Crowder? Why isn't he playing for Central like his brothers did? I've only heard rumors, but you have other "fish" who should have gone to Central too, don't you? Poor Central, they would have been pretty competetive if their players had stayed loyal. DB doesn't fish for players, we get lucky every once in a while, only because we have a the best program in Sullivan County and why wouldn't they want to play for us? We keep big numbers because most kids in our system bleed maroon and grey. They love the game, they love the coaches and even if they don't get as much playing time, they are going to stay loyal.

  6. What about Whitten? Imagine if going from 5A to 6A doubled Stacey Carter's salary...... what that would do to Whitten's paycheck. After several years, he's done well for himself and would be just as qualified as moving someone up from within the org. You can only follow your heart so far, after that you gotta use your head - I bet he throws his hat in the ring.

  7. The Southers will burn the school down before they let the city get their hands on it. What should happen is the city needs to buy North (already in city limits) from the county and turn it into a Vocational type school that will feed into Eastman and all the new programs going on downtown. They will keep DB for college prep only, the vocational school won't have sports, but somehow they will manage to get it under the DB wing and we can attract all the county kids who want a really good vo-tech type program and want to play ball....... and the county people will hate the city (DB) even more for it.

  8. Roll Tribe i don't know who you are or your kid is but if you can't tell Rusty Clark is a football player you are blind. I've not been a big fan of coach Clark in the last few years but i kn ow that he knows that Rusty is developing into one of our best players. It's people like you who will screw Rusty out of playing time when we need him because GC will be afraid people like you will talk about him showing favorites. Now, if your kid is riding the pine behind Rusty he might want to pick another position or even another sport. Good hands and always in position on defense, what's bad about that? I'm not taking up for GC but merely stating the facts. Roll Tribe Roll.................

I never said Rusty isn't a football player, reread my post - he is a good defensive player and getting better all the time and he has earned that spot (this year). I like to watch him hit - you know he wants it bad. But... he doesn't have good hands, he's had a lucky catch here and there and thats gonna happen when you are put in that position, he has dropped critical passes. He is not a natural and they are trying to make something of him that he is not and it's not right. Its not my kid that is riding the pine behind him - my kid is doing ok for himself, but there are other kids that should be worked with that are not getting a fair shake - and a bunch more talented athlethes that if they were worked with properly when freshman and sophs would still be on the team and not "walking the halls". I always knew we'd be down this year, but I used to think that next year would be our year to win it all, but I don't know anymore. I have always been a fan of Coach Clark and I still am, but I am disapointed with some of his and the other coaches choices and I am not the only one, I am just the one putting it out there.

  9. SOS, play calling, can't tackle, need to wrap up, can't score from the 10, too slow, need a strength coach (the program is called BFS), no experience, one running back...everything will be fine. We have Central (1-30) in 2 weeks and the win column will start filling up. The tribe will be 8-2 or 7-3. The number of wins and losses are not as important as who the losses will be to. The games and season are so predictable. This team is very similar to a few years ago, slow and not very strong. The defensive backs are either small w/speed or slow w/size. The line on both sides appears to be weak. The team has little experience and that falls at the feet of GC for never subbing until the last 2 minutes. They do have a kicker walking the halls as well as some other football players that could help the team. They just dont see eye to eye with the mentality of GC, football is not first and the only thing in their life. IMO dont worry about last week or the outcome of the Clinton game. Take the experience of playing 2 good teams of equal or better talent and use it in the 2 big games later in the season. As CS goes, so goes the game and the season.
I heard DB had a lot of good football players, but coach Morgan the basketball coach doesn't like them playing football or baseball vice-versa.Thats why Slyvester quit.Something wrong there. There seems to be a power struggle.

There are many fine athletes walking the halls at DB (or have transferred to other Sullivan County schools) because DB has serious problems with their good ole boy coaching system. Not just football but across the board. One of the biggest problems is Morgan and Ritz will coerce a kid into playing one sport. They let them know that they will be sitting the bench if they don’t focus on their sport only. It is the rare kid who is not intimidated and will go on to play multiple sports. If that isn’t enough, our other, more looming problem (and one that several years ago I would have argued would never happen) is we have some daddy ball going on. It seems GC is trying to get his kids picture on the walls @ DB. It is starting to show in the W-L column and it is only going to get worse. #14 is a becoming a good defensive player, but that is all he brings to the table. He doesn’t have the skills to be out there in any other position. Think back to last year, McMinn County, when things started to go haywire – he had the ball thrown to #14….. WTF? I know I am opening a big can of worms here, but I am not the only parent who feels this way. We talk about it quietly because we don’t want to screw our kids out of a spot. But know that there are a lot of frustrated parents and players and we all keep quiet ‘cuz we know it is a battle we can’t win – I mean even the A.D. has a kid who is taking a varsity seat away from some better athlete on the basketball team.

  10. I believe DB can beat those teams they just need to find a team capable of humbling them in regular season.

I hope we won't be "humbled" but I have to agree. The only nail biter I can remember from last year was Science Hill and that was too late in the season. I think the kids just knew they were gonna win, and that attitude hurts when you actually have to prove it. I think this season even though we play some smaller local schools, they are all going to be out for maroon blood and the guys are going to have to prove themselves ALL season long - which is good, it will only make them better when they get to the playoffs.
