I never will forget the excitement of that October of 05 game Hampton @ Cloudland in the cold for the MEC title. That was an all around awesome game for player and fan alike. Their were soo many people. It was just crazy. That's the game I reminisce about the most. And of course the semi-final game how I wish I could have done better not that it would have changed the outcome.

 

Maybe Coach Lunsford will get them boys he has now and turn them into men.

 

 

Most kids never understand what it takes to be the best you can be, it takes alot of work and disapline from the entire team to be a title contender. Football teams are made in the off season,either way it goes you will pay the price, its either the price of success or failure. The failure deal is not alot of fun.

I am super excited about this upcoming year for Bulldog Basketball. This year has been a long time coming for Hampton High and the Bulldog nation.

Buddy sometimes I amaze myself, it's just soo easy to stir people up on here.

Not a chance the 05 team could beat the 07 team. Hampton 07 team is one of the best the area has every seen. Even coach Lunsford considers the 07 Hampton team one of the best he has been a part of. The Trousdale team of 05 washed the floor with the 05 team.

Hampton in 05 was the resurrection year for Hampton football, That year they set the new standard for "Bulldog Football". The way I see it is 06 and 07 just continued the winning way and tradition laid down in golden slabs of greatness in which the 2005 Hampton Bulldogs was to Hampton, Tn., Carter County and the rest of east Tn that year. A team that on a average season was barely .500 and how a group of seniors and juniors put in the "Hard Work" and became men. I was a senior on that 2005 team and my team and I gave it all on the field every time we stepped out out of the field house. And just as sure as Hampton is the house that J.C. Campbell built, I believe greatness comes from some where, like a diamond that starts as a stone. The town of Hampton until the day I die will always be apart of me...

Will Hampton be anywhere close to as good as the team Sp beat in 07' on the way to the title? They had a good team that year..

 

They have alot to prove to be in the same clas as the 2007 team. Anyone who could stay on the field with SP that yeat was pretty good. This team has some potential, but I'd have to see several game to determine if they are a great team or just an average team. In my opinion ,if the line does well, this will be a pretty good bunch, they should be good every where else.

The 2005 team could have beat SP if they could have played then in 07.

How far will they go...

A few months and it will be that time again, all I can say is my oh my how time does fly.

YES 'C', they are not adult men but they are young men and yes im sure they hear the bull going around....(this is a good life lesson for them cause life is pretty much this way from here on) THEY have to step up, forget the gossip they've heard and do their jobs to perfection (or as close as their abilities will allow them)... The accusation throwing by unsatisfied parents and fans IS NOT just a Hampton problem.....it goes on EVERYWHERE....If Johnny is shooting too much or not passing to lil Timmy when he is open, then that is an issue the COACHES MUST DEAL WITH. But i still insist that the coaches and players will step up, make the changes needed, respect one another and play TEAM ball just like they did this summer (and it wasnt ONE player that beat the high-caliber teams they beat this summer.....it was a TEAM) So, if these players are reading these posts let me say...."Young men, listen to me, you are playing a GAME so have fun! In whatever you do, give it your all and remember there will always be someone you must depend on so learn to depend on one another NOW. JONES, run that floor with confidence, find the open man with crisp passes and take the good shot when it presents itself and be relentless on 'D'......WARD and HUGHES, play your game, be relentless on 'D', but remember you have a supporting cast (as good as you two are, one nor two will ever beat five) if they believe you will pass the ball out, they will play you two looser, that will take alot of double teams off you both......HILL, post up strong and demand the ball, then go up and in STRONG!!!! your 6'6 young man, be a power house, move your feet and own the lane.....ANDREWS and LYONS, we want you to keep the hustle up, it is a great example to the others! SUBS, when your in, this is your chance to contribute as a team player its not a shoot around and dribbling contest, be confident , for you will be very much needed soon......COACHES, RESPECT YOUR PLAYERS...you'll want them to look back and respect you some day !!!!!!

 

 

Good post! I really believe some people are freaking out for no reason. They have not played their best ball and really have not played as good as they did this summer. I think they will get there and there have been flashes of it already. They just have not done it for the whole game. As far as the jealously thing goes, I don't think there is very much going on between the players. Maybe a little bit but most of that is coming from parents and families. I think some of you guys just need to be careful what you say on this board because I know for a fact the players do read this board at times. I think Hampton turns it around in a big way next game and all of this will be forgotten....except for the part where Username got personal

When, where.???

I haven't even been to a dawg game and it's happening again.... the easiest way to keep up with the troubles of the alliance is logging in and double-clicking awhile. I have a few concerns:

 

1. Since there's so much "ball hogging" going on, it's probably safe to say that the Clark kid made the dawgs better when he transferred back to Avery. Just imagine what the board would look like if that kid would have hung around.

 

2. To be the best, it's a good idea to get it to the best players on the team. Whether anybody wants to admit it or not, Ward is the best player on the team and he has to take a majority of the shots from the outside. By looking at the paper Hughes has been inconsistent since the footballers came back and Jones is too busy trying to run the team. Get it to 13 and things will get better.

 

3. Rambler said it and I heard it's true.... Hampton's freshmen got throttled by Unaka on Saturday. Plus the Bales kid and Nave only played a little bit because it got so out of hand. By the way the future is looking, coachT better get some more disk space. These "searching for answer" posts will triple in size in a few years.

WARD is a very good player, HUGHES has not been on but that will change soon, JONES finds the open man with few turnovers, LYONS busts his butt on every outting, get the ball to the 'BIGS' when they post up and everything will be just fine.....as for JONES "running the team", ask the coaches or any player and they'd say thats his job as PG (he just needs to loosen up and play his game).....(seems too many trips down the floor have plays set in stone)....I'd love to see this team RUN the floor and play as a team....'get ONE man' the ball will never be the answer, WAY TOO MUCH TALENT on this team for that

I agree.... The real thing here to look at isn't your opinion, my opinion, or his opinion, It's the talent that is there at Hampton High. I do believe things will kick into gear. And as easy as it is to do lets not forget this team is still young, I do all the time. there are 3 players on this team that could all be considered some of the best in a long time and they all 3 Jr's.

But once again I do wish Wards passing game would improve. Not just to make the team better but to make himself better as well. Go Dogs, and God bless.

I have been to a few Hampton games and have not heard 1 single person say there is a ballhog. If not for the player you are referring to, Hampton would be getting ran out of the gym. Whenever I hear people talk about him, they talk about him being one of the best they've seen in a long time. Ask THE KING. He came up to me in the tourney at Chuckey Doak last year and said those exact words...

And once again I agree, He is/"Could be" one of the best.

Yeah ned and carp do a great job with the kids, Defense is key.. They play south greene tommorrow night, and then thursday i think they play chuckey doak, And morgan gets recognized for making it in the thousand point club, They have pretty good size in there starting line up and i cant wait to watch these boys play some ball..

Just plat better "D" then what Hampton did, of course they did get a lil "home cooking" @ south greene, watch it they can shoot the long range ball. I can see the landers beating both C-D and S-G.

Some food for thought. Did you ever think that the reason they played the 1-3-1 is to their center, who I will not name, can STAND in the middle of the lane. He cannot guard anyone in man defense, that has already been proven. So you are saying that you want everyone to "man up" aor guard their man? Wouldn't you like to see that.......................talk about getting burnt. You would have to have subs for defense and then sub for offense. They are limited in what they can do when they have the "bigs" in the lineup because the other teams bigs are quicker and can play facing the basket. So, if you are wanting a change in the defense you are saying to put our "big" on the bench???? Is that correct?

 

i DO NOT understand your comments about WARD AND JONES.............Ward was in foul trouble, but has looked pretty darn good and the paper said JONES had 9 points on 5 or 6 shots......"Ward worse than last year" and "Jones shooting EVERY shot"......OH PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Well, first of all, after reading some the last few posts, I did not realize Hampton had so many terrible, uneducated fans? It is kind of sad that many of you guys could not even watch a game on TV and be able to keep up with what is going on! I like the 1-3-1 defense at times because it does cause turnovers and speeds up the game. Other times(like against Unicoi) when you are playing a team that can Handle the ball and has shooters it will get you burned! Hampton did not have much choice late in the game when they were behind. They could not just let Unicoi stand out and hold the ball! I personally would have liked to have seen them stay with the man to man a little longer, but that was the coaches choice. Another reason for the 1-3-1 is to hide the big men against smaller teams. Some people have said that they can't play any defense and that is just not true. You cannot ask your big guys to guard other teams guards. It is not their fault that other teams are so small but it does make it hard when they have to guard smaller quicker players all over the court. As far as bashing the players, I think it is pretty pathetic for a fanbase to say the things they say about some of these players. Scorers and shooters are supposed to shoot the ball when they are open! People who are scorers are supposed to drive to the goal and draw fouls and score. I guess the guards are just supposed to stand on the perimeter and pass the ball inside every single play? Jones, Ward, and Hughes are going to miss shots and they are going to commit turnovers but that is just part of being a guard and having the ball in your hands all the time. I thought Jones looked a lot better Friday and had a good game and I think Ward played his best game of the year, even though he only played about 2 quarters. I don't know if some of you guys are jealous of these guys or what? I really don't understand the hate? Hampton fans are supposed to support and take up for Hampton players and not put them down all the time. I know if I were one of these guys and knew what my supposedly own fans were saying, I would find somewhere else to go to school where maybe I would be appreciated. I think there are some other schools out there that would like to have them. It seems like unicoi is finally coming together like everyone expected.....This past week they beat unaka by 28 and also won at hampton by 17 friday night. they got off to a rough start losing a couple close games when they didnt play their best ball. Once again English has the boys playing their calibur of basketball we've been used to seeing the past 4 years. From watching it looks like the chemistry is getting better everytime they step on the court....Any comments?

I know very little on Johnson Co. and can only go on what I hear about the Hampton Bulldogs this season....BUT, Two things are for sure when these two teams meet. HARD hitting, and ALOT of Rushing yards and most of the time a low scoring game. I believe it could be up to who has the least turnovers.

My prediction: Hampton 8 / Johnson Co. 7
