  1. Let's be realistic- Kayla Christopher was hands down the best single A player last year and this year- and it's not even close.

East Tennessee players historically have difficulty getting their recognition from the Middle and West TN media who votes for these awards.

Mark it down- anytime a player from Middle TN is up for the award ( just like last year) against an East TN player unless they are one of the top 50 players in America ( like Glory Johnson and Faith Dupree) the East TN player will lose no matter how much better she is - even if she is a national prospect.

Kayla should have won last year and this year.

I am just happy for KC that she can leave TN high school basketball behind and concentrate on her bright future in college basketball where she will get the correct recgonition she deserves.

Mark it down- Southern Conference Freshman of the year. She's one of the highest rated Freshman to enter the Southern Conference in a long time. She has the potential to not only emulate OS's laura hall's success, but become a Stephan Curry type ( Davison- Southern Conference) player that elevates a mid major power into a national program.

It's been marked down! Looks like UTC will be in the Final-Four now!!

Middle Tennessee conspiracy? What a joke. Laken earned it and deserved it. Don't try to taint this award. You also said your girl would go to UT, UConn or somewhere equivalent. It didn't happen. As you can see, ratings don't mean a whole lot when it comes to judging high school talent. The coaches have the final say on who is a top rated player and apparently they didn't agree with your thoughts. . She is a good player and everyone respects her ability. Just leave it at that and let her "actions" on the court do her talking. The great players don't need a PR person.

Congrats to all the Miss Basketball winners and All-tournament selections. It was a good week of basketball and fun for all............

  2. You are correct about that I'm sure.

I don't buy it. You'd outwardly cry like RBS did when Laken left. You'd moan and grown like Monterey did when Heady and Adkins left. You all have had so much transferring of great players from program to program up in that area that you just see it as acceptable actions. That's crap. Players should not transfer just to win. Play with the cards you're dealt. It shows far more integrity if you do. You're not going to be able to thrust yourself into a positive situation for the rest of your life. Sometimes, you're going to have to make lemonade when life gives you a lemon. And Monterey would have been pretty darn good this season if Heady and Adkins would have stayed. If Molly Heady took the proper steps, she would have gotten near the same amount of recruiting attention whether she was at Clarkrange or Monterey. If you can play, college coaches will find you. She's a very good player, but she's not going to be a post player at a major Division 1 basketball program due to her 5-11 or 6-0 height. The NAIAs, JUCOs and D-2 and D-3 will come calling. Best of luck to all.

They said the same thing about Alysha Clark. She now leads the nation in scoring.

  3. I agree .I have been hearing some rumors, looks like the little freshman that CHOKED at the end of games two in a row to be truthfully. Has a free pass coachs must think she is the next michael jordan. All i have to say is warmath ,and vaughn are gone next year. And fcs will be the step child in the district that everybody beats up on .. Just IMO. FACT and I so hope they are on my EAGLES schedule next year.

I heard they had some transfers coming in. I don't know who though.

  4. District 9 will provide the runner up team that will travel to the sub-state. Marshall county is one of the top teams in the state.... AA or AAA. They have proven this with their win against Mt. Juliet AAA. Although 9aa has some great tallent.. Having to play against the past state champ, and this year Marshall will play for the championship,( I think they will repeat, but there is a great upperman team out there, so all bets are off, you will find 9aa getting to the state through the #2 seed.) 9aa wont be closer than 20 with marshall. I think 9aa will get to the state, but it will be over the next couple of years that they dominate the region, there is a lot of great young tallent out there. Do not forget David Lipscomb in your discussion, you might beat up on them this season, but they have a wealth of tallent and height in the 7th and 8th grade levels. Of course FRA leaves for better competition..... lol... I mean greener pastures!

Why do FRA players leave for greener pastures? Seems like they are as good or better than any other team in the district.

  5. There seem to be many things wrong about this whole situation. Wrong, not from Riverdale's point of view but the way it has been handled by the media and now from a number of fans not knowing the facts. Last March, this whole situation started a series of events that caused problems at Indy and at that point, posts were on this site that others wanted to transfer to Rutherford due to the athletic situation in Williamson. Having one of the most promineint AAU programs in Rutherford made it appealing as evidently players from Williamson were playing in that Club. That club had noting to do with the aforementioned Club that Coach Maxwell alledgely at one time used to help with. The story was and never denied, that the Basketball Coach at Riverdale elected not to Coach there after the conditions were not agreed to and when looking at the best prospect, it was decided that Hillary Maxwell unamiously was to be asked her interest either formally or informally. The position was so prominent, at the right time she accepted and set of a series of events at Indy tht didn't end until August. Rumors persisted after the end of school that two players had left Indy and had transferred to Riverdale and had moved. It was only discovered the names a little later. Posted on this site were others who felt like the opportunities were better in Rutherford. That was very obvious with as many players playing College/University Basketball there. Information was also given at that time that at least one of those players was playing with the Club in Rutherford and maybe the other. Again, this was not the Club that Coach Maxwell was at one time allegedly associated with. Girls Basketball was not as highly thought of in Williamson as Rutherford. As I remember, it was posted that the two players had already moved by the last of June. It mentioned that one of the parents situation was liquid and could move any time. The other was not mentioned. The current Coach at Indy was also said to be associated with the Rutherford Club.

Nothing was said about the moves further and while some expected further things to be said, nothing else was mentioned about the moves until now in January. A lot of people knew ###### of this was going on from March thru August but nothing was ever said. As i remember, the things mentioned on this thread were mentioned and the ways it would have to be done. Whether this got to the TSSAA level I'm not sure but it was mentioned.

As has been posted, Rutherford County has followed Coach Maxwell for the past 5 years or more. She eats and breathes basketball. As a coach, her mode of operation is to be involved with her players and has kept many young players out of trouble with her efforts. Its been her life. It's not unexpected to hear her trying to motivate players to do better. Its not unexpected to hear of her trying to keep kids out of gangs. Basketball is her other life.

It is somewhat unnerving, before the facts are even in, to have the news organizations not only run articles and life size pictures before the gillitine even drops but run for selling papers sake, information that might not be true. Its expected though for those associated with DivisionII to jump in the middle of it before the facts even come out. They are marketing their schools. They may be, in the long run, marketing Riverdales athletic program. We'll see. Riverdaleman may be right.

Ronnie Carter will find the facts and do what is necessary. Its time for High School Sports to clean itelf up and IMO could start with the TSSAA looking at the Transfer rules and since most parents at this time know how to skirt the rules to help their player play where they want to play, make sure it doesn't go any further. No matter the area of the state, it seems to go further. And that is all divisions.

This will play out. What will happen will happen. No one is going to influence it before RC gets thru with it. the newspaper said RC said it was only an inquirey. The information went to the school, to the main office, to the TSSAA. With nothing being said about the matter until now made me think it was approved beforehand but thinking back, it couldn't have been. I do agree with MidTenn. This needs to be comsumated very quickly and the facts come out. What happens does happen. But if throughout the state, rules are being violated to get kids in the schools they want to be in, find some way tg enforce compliance or an easier way for parents to send their kids to the schools they want them to be in. without going thru the gyrations, if indeed they are and I don't think they are as much as might be stated.

Right now, only using the papers facts, Riverdale does not appear to have done anything wrong but unless the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed at time of transfer the questions are there. Hillary Maxwell usually does that along with the Administration of Riverdale. All of these other matters likely are not considered by TSSAA in that likely nothing was said about those. The new AD at Riverdale certainly has his hands full this first year. Continual rezoning in the Boro continues to bring up how to handle questions in a fast growing area. Students moving in and out of the area and in and out of private schools and in and out of state makes, I'm sure, interesting situations. The larger schools certainly have to keep up with the trend.,

  6. I'm curious about good or even great players playing for bad teams. Should you stay the course because the grass is never greener on the other side? .

I know of many players who never get recognized because their teams never leave the distrct or regional tournament. Playing on a sub .500 team couldn't be fun for your whole high school career.

If you are young (elem or middle school) and you know your program will not be good when you get to high school, what are the pros and cons of transferring to a known program before you get to the high school level?

  7. Congrats from district 10 A to the lady Rockets for pulling out another tough win. I bet it was a great game to watch. Were the refs fair?

    How many lead changes.

It was unusual to see just 5 in the scoring column for Forrest.

On another note .... How many times do you see the score of BOTH girls and boys games come out exactly the same.....huh.

    Be of good cheer !

Wasn't this a home game for the Rockets? Refs normally favor the home team..........

  8. I AGRE,ICELYN IS A GREAT PLAYER AND SHE HAS NOT REACHED HER FULL POTENTIAL YET.I KNOW YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH SPORTS IN LEBANON,HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO SEE THE FOX GIRL PLAY AT LEBANONS MIDDLE SCHOOL YET.

PLEASE!!!!! Don't start this again this year. If your good one day, then let your actions on the court do your talking.

There are many, many good middle school players but it doesn't translate into a good high school player. Give it time and give it a rest!! On the other hand, Icelyn has developed into a very good player and deserves the attention she is getting.
