  1. You have no clue...you worked for a while to get a decent reputation on this board and lose i all with one lousy post.

Sorry about your luck. You know 10 "atta boys" = 1 "oh crap"

Now that is two lousy posts.

A decent reputation? I like to stir the pot once in a while to see what happens. And look at what happened. BTW, cheese eating buttmonkeys is funny! :D

  2. So it is right to attack the programs that are successful? Oh , wait , I forgot that the reason for their success is because they stole your all world players. Sorry.

Nope. They didn't steal them. Those kids and their parents chose to go to Maryville and Alcoa. Maryville and Alcoa have both benefitted tremendously from the county talent that flowed their way. In a county with four high schools kids and parents have a choice. If HHS and WBHS want those kids to stay, then they have to give them a reason. HHS hasn't given anyone a reason to stay since 2000. WBHS has had glimmers of hope the past ten years, but cannot seem to get over the edge.

GQ and Rankin are both fine coaches that run outstanding programs. Other county coaches would do well to set down with them and talk football. But they won't; they are too threatened.

  3. PHOOS is a Heritage fan. Understand now?

I'm a fan of doing what is right. So far HHS has not done much in that arena. WB is on the right track but could easily slip. It is hard to get excited when you have a coach that alienates so many people (Russell). It's hard to have a positive attitude when so many kids don't work hard (HHS & WB), not all, mind you, but enough that it is difficult to create a true team that strives toward common goals.

I'm a fan of seeing coaches and players coming together and accomplishing things. Both of these teams can be good enough to post 5-5 to 9-1 seasons consistently. The playoffs are not out of the question.

It is difficult to see them struggle against mediocre teams and get mowed down by good teams. As I have posted before, the potential is there. But potential doesn't mean much if it is wasted.

  4. :roflolk: ........that's the best you got! what a loser! :thumb:

Good grief, you cheese eating butt monkeys are easy to get riled up! I'm just pointing out that when you thing you're the biggest and baddest dog in the fight that there is always someone bigger and badder. It is interesting that you stoop to calling me a loser. Only a mental midget would go that low. It's about as good as saying, "Oh yeah?" I guess that's what happens when you sleep through elementary school and are happy with your sixth grade education.

  5. How does everyone feel about Heritage? Where do they need to improve? Are they in the right direction?

Heritage is in for a long, long dry spell. No quarterback to speak of coming back. Offensive line will continue to be very weak. The Cline kid is the best athlete they have coming back, but he cannot do it all. A weak freshman class adds nothing to the future. It will take a miracle for anything resembling a winning season to materialize at HHS in the next five years.

  6. :roflol: I agree Alcoa does NOT need to play the county schools....it would be waste of time for Alcoa. Greenback would be a better competition! :bored:

The "nothing to gain" excuse goes down the drain when the county schools WILL play Alcoa in all other sports EXCEPT football shows what the real truth is! :thumb:

You know, it would be nice if any Tennessee state champ team played any real competition. Tennessee high school football doesn't even measure up to other states. Maryville, Alcoa, and dozens of other teams couldn't hold a candle to state championship teams from other states. Don't believe it? Then why don't they line up games with other teams from other states. It was said that even GQ wouldn't play other Nike top 25 teams because of the difference in talent level. Take your six straight and play a real team with similar talent, then you can brag.

Now, as for the No Body Will Play Aloca In Football whining I will stick by what I wrote. The only one who benefits is Aloca and their athletic fund.

  7. both wb and heritage should play alcoa every year. by not playing them it shows that they are not commited to football.gate money would help schools. play on thursday and have bigger crowd. kids dont want to play for them so they walk the halls or go to alcoa. man up and lets have a true county championship.

It won't happen. Not anything to gain for either team. If the county school wins then everyone says that they are supposed to. If they lose then it is a big deal for 2A/3A Aloca to beat 6A teams. The only one who wins is Alcoa with the bigger gate. And with the history between the county schools and Alcoa I don't think anyone is too eager to help Alcoa out.

  8. Mike White is a great guy and speaks kindly of WB, but you can forget him leaving Maryville to come back and coach there.

Tpoole, you are a great guy and I think everyone in Blount County knows by now that you don't favor the Wing offense. Gregory does not run a true Wing T offense, it is sort of a hybrid Wing T. WB started the year putting in the spread type offense that Maryville runs, after about six weeks and no offensive production, they went back to using the old offense and started moving the ball. The problem is that WB does not have the athletes to run the spread, mainly on the O line. The blocking schemes in a true spread are extremely sophisticated and they could not pick it up with the time they worked on it in spring and fall practice, on top of the fact that they were just not athletic enough up front to block it. When you go watch Maryville play, instead of watching the ball just watch their O line, Quarles is in a league by himself when it comes to coaching, but David Ellis is a very huge factor in that success as he is the best O line coach in the state, IMO. As for me, I like a more open offense also, but I have been around football long enough to know that just because that is what I prefer, that doesn't mean they have the athletes to do it. You have to work within the parameters of the players. Heck, they don't even have a QB that can drop straight back and be consistent throwing the ball 15 yards down field, they have to roll him out for every pass and that cuts the field in half, but you have to do what your players can do.

The fact is that I can sit down and draw up plays from any offense and on paper, every play will be a success whether it is from the Wing T, the spread, the power I, or any other offense. The difference in paper and the field is the athletes to accomplish each play.

I am a Gregory fan. I think he has made some crucial steps to moving the program forward, but the #1 thing that will have to be done at WB for them to be successful is to implement discipline. Gregory has to make the rules, have a parent/player meeting, let them know that he truly cares about the kids, but if those kids cannot abide by the rules then they will not be a part of the team. Kids standing on the sidelines texting during a game is not acceptable and it was tolerated this year. Kids undermining the plays that a coach calls in the huddle is not acceptable and it was tolerated this year. Kids backtalking and even using profane language directly at a coach on a continuous basis is not acceptable and it was tolerated this year. I could go on and on but I won't. There is some purging that has to happen before the program can begin to grow in the right direction. We hear a lot about senior leadership and I continue to hear about the lack of senior leadership the last two years. I have a different take on that, I believe that the seniors are leaders, someone will be watching them, the question is what way are you going to lead, and the answer is that these leaders have led the rest of the team in the wrong direction. Now, I am speaking as a collective group, I know they have had some lead in the right direction, but very few. I could give several examples from this year but I think that would be a little too personal for a message board, so I won't. I know there are many out there that want to blame the kids attitudes on the turnover in coaching the last few years and I really do feel sorry for the kids, but at the same time most of these kids are juniors and seniors and they are young men that are about to enter the real world and the real world is going to deal you adversity on a continuous basis so how are you going to deal with it. Are you going to pick yourself up and meet the adversity head on and make the best of the situation or are you going to wallow in your self pity and play the blame game your whole life. Unfortunately, I believe a lot of them are doing the latter and that will follow them in life.

This won't be popular, but the next problem is parents. It was apparent to me after the West game that there was a kid at a certain position and he either needed to be replaced or moved to a different position. This was also apparent to many of the coaches by what the kid had told teammates and coaches. To make a long story short, he was finally replaced for the Farragut game. If you were in the stands that night, in front of the pressbox, you witnessed his father challenging one of the coaches coming out of the pressbox at halftime. This is just one incident, there are others over the course of the year and this may be one thing that leads a coach to not be as disciplined as he should be. If every time he tries to discipline, he has to have a parent conference with the parent, he may deem the discipline to not be worth the time he has to spend in meeting with parents.

I would have an easier time supporting the program if the coach laid down the rules and the ones that could not abide by them would leave. I don't care if they are good athletes or not, if they can't abide by the rules and put the team ahead of themselves, they are not winners, you can't win with them. I would be ok if they went out and lined up in 6A football with 20 players, but all 20 would look the coaches in the eye and say yes sir and no sir, do everything that was asked of them, and give 110% every play of practice and games. Forget the outcome of the game, you have to get the foundation there before the outcomes are going to change. Winning is a process of doing the right things, the wins on the field can only come after a whole lot of right things have been done elsewhere.

So, the people that want to blame the offense as being the problem with the program, don't have much of a clue. The problem is a lot more deep seated than the wing offense. It can be changed, but a coach will have to lay down the rules and have a "my way or the highway" attitude about it. If you trust your coach, you should not have a problem with it, because "his way" should be the right way, and if you don't trust your coach enough that you do have a problem with it then you either need to get yourself straightened out or get another coach.

I have two years to decide whether they have gotten it fixed, that is when my kid will be there. My kid doesn't have to be on a state champion team, but he will not be a part of an undisciplined program either, that would take all the lessons that I have taught him for 14 years and flush them down the drain.

Thank you for your post. This is the primary problem at both HHS and WBHS. There is a common question amoung some people, "Could George Quarrels win in the county schools?" I think he could IF the parents would not whine and cry when discipline is instituted. And it is parents like the one who accosted the WBHS coach after the Farragut game that are the problem. I saw the same thing from the stands, and it was disgraceful! It is no wonder that the boys of this county are so fragile and undisciplined.

The county schools are full of good kids. There are boys who not only need discipline, but crave it. Coachs need to be prepared, like you said, to play 20 boys if those are the 20 that respect the rules and give everything they have. 6A programs like Blount County's should be able to field consistently successful teams. There is no doubt that they play hard schedules - the hardest in the state IMO. But with the right support, the right coaches, and the right attitude these schools can win. It won't happen overnight, but it can happen. The question is do the parents, administration, and boys have the fortitude to make the change?

  9. Well, another year of football has come and gone for WBHS and HHS. It is time to ask a few serious questions.

Both teams had dismal seasons. Please spare me the talk of injuries impacting the teams. These are my observations after watching both teams for a quite a few years.

The problems in the county school programs are deep. Far deeper than coaching. I have flamed Coach Russell pretty good here, but he and Coach Gregory have had to fight deep seated problems that plague each program. It has little to do with the alleged filching of players by MHS and AHS. It has to do with a mentality amoung the boys and parents of Blount County. Work ethic, a sense of commitment, teamwork, and humility (the ability to put team before self) are sorely missing. It is a tribute to those boys who do make commitments and honor them. However, their dedication is offset by the antics and stupidity of those players who are trouble-makers, in trouble with the law, and who only "show up" to wear a jersey on Friday night.

Even more, the parents of these boys sabotage not only the programs but their son's futures. They shout and fuss and blame everyone... except themselves. These boys who are troublesome are the same ones who disrupt practice, behave badly off the field, and have poor academic achievement in the classroom. They learn to blame everyone but themselves as well. It is always someone elses fault.

    So, my questions:

    1. Are the people in the county school systems serious about football?

    2. If they are, why do their boys exhibit little in the way of serious commitment?

    3. Are they willing to have their sons pushed by coaches to be better? Better players, better athletes, better men?

    4. Are the boys emotionally tough enough to bear the criticism that comes with getting better?

    5. Are all the problems with the coaching? How much can be blamed on coaches?

    6. Finally, is any coach willing to cut the players who are the trouble-makers, no-shows for practice, and in trouble with the law? Will the parents and administrators support them if they do?

  10. How bad is a program that has players sneeking onto the field to paint their own stuff? How bad is a program where the coaches take things away (like dealing with small children) then let them "earn it back?" What is going on at HHS? Why isn't there a freshman team playing a schedule at a 6A school? At this rate they will be lucky to win another game. It isn't a problem with injuries and illness. It is a cancer that seems to be growing in the HHS program. Given the lack of success of their middle school program this year (1-8) there is a long, long dry spell coming to Coach Russell and the HHS crowd.

  11. HHS 2009, its fans like you we do not need in our program. Come on here and bash your own coaches is pretty lame. We expect it from other teams fans and people that like to hide behind there screen name, just as you are. If you want to come on here and support them, then great other wise keep your sour comments to yourself. I will agree it was a horrible game and I'm sure this coaching staff is just has hurt if not more than anyone. Time to move on and get ready for Farragut....GO MOUNTAINEERS....

Here is the deal: name the last time that HHS made a decision to hire a quality head football coach? Leadership, discipline, and character are all at the top of the list for any coach. It is no secret that Coach Russell has little more than contempt for the coaching staff of any other school in the county. Why? What has he achieved that places him above the others he ridicules? It is telling that when you look at the roster of the middle school players from HMS and EMS you don't find many of them out there playing. Why? Why aren't there 25 to 30 freshmen that want to play football at HHS?

Please don't lay these questions off on parents who don't care. The fact is that for the past ten years there hasn't been a reason for kids to play for HHS. Since 2001 HHS up to this last game with WB has won exactly 20 games. 20 games in 10 years! The last winning season was in 1987, 23 years ago.

It is possible to win games. HHS has over 1500 kids in the halls half of which are boys. Get them out. Works their butts off. Those that don't want to work, cut them loose. Don't tolerate discipline problems. Discipline problems - cut them loose. The thing is that these kids will work for a coach who has those qualities. They won't go out and stomp the opposing teams field. They will let their play and the score board do the talking. They will show class, play with class, win with class, and lose with class. This has been missing for the past ten years.

As for bashing coaches, hiding behind screen names, etc. well this is the place for it. I also don't see you giving your first and last name here either. As for sour comments, several people here call them as we see them. It is one thing to be loyal. It is another to be blind to the truth.

  12. So now you've gone and piqued my interest in this "game within the game". In order to track this developing storyline, though, we need to know what Heritage's standing record is for sacks in a single game -- or do you mean that he's fast approaching the career mark, and if so, how many does Evan need?

I don't know, it all seemed innocent enough to me.

What, you can't have a little banter with your cross-county rival unless you've won a bunch of state titles?!

I like the fact that followers of these programs are engaging in some generally good-natured goading. Now I feel a little differently about someone who's trying to run down both programs under the guise of criticizing a fellow poster. Such commentary comes off as haughty or, as some might say, arrogant.

Sorry Cletus, but it wasn't good natured banter. It was running down a program based on comparing outcomes of two very different schedules. Heritage is finally getting into the meat of their schedule and finding that once again it is a grinder. WB at this point has played the tougher schedule and anyone who was a fan of football would realize that before trotting out meaningless statistics. And, just so you know, I didn't win any state titles, I didn't play at either Maryville or Alcoa. I'm just a football fan who likes to see a good game, and this one is looking to be a good game.

  13. Here are some stats for you.

    William Blount has

Given up: 106 pts on the season

Scored: 74 pts on the season

    Heritage has

Given up: 75 pts on the season

Scored: 76 points on the season

Its not worth much, talking about the karns game. William Blount ran a different offense then, and you never had to sustain a long drive. Most of your points where handed to you. You will not be able to move the ball on Heritage this week. Your O-line is fat and slow. Should Evan Brown give them his autograph after or before the game?? Will probably hold the new Sack Record after this one.

You know, arrogance is one thing, ignorance is another. What experience do you have to make such criticisms? Are you a Heritage fanboy that played on one of the eleven teams with a .500 or better record out of the past thirty-four years? Perhaps you are a disappointed WB grad who played on one of their twenty losing teams. Either way, your mouth overloads your hind end.

In any case, this could be the best game of the year for both teams. They are as equally matched as any two in the county. It will be a close one, and one that I will enjoy watching.

  14. At 5:48 PM on Friday, September 17, 2010 I was sitting at the intersection of Gary Hensley/Montvale and 321. I was coming down the hill from the Maryville municipal building and was waiting to cross 321. The light turned green and about 4 cars went through the intersection and then the cars in front of me stopped. I heard sirens and rolled down my window to see which direction they were coming from. Both lanes on 321 were full of cars stopped at the red light in both directions. Then I see two motorcycle officers splitting the lane of cars with full lights an sirens on. Then they enter the intersection and block all lanes of traffic. 321 has no shoulder through the City of Maryville and only has a steep curb. The vehicles at the intersection heading west were forced to move left and right to get out of the way of whatever it was coming from the east. Then I see what is causing all of this confusion at the intersection. A couple of Blount County cruisers come through, followed by two Blount County School buses and a box van that said Heritage High School on it. Then there were more Blount County Cruisers following. I pulled out the cell phone and was trying to video the whole debacle, but the password on my phone didn't allow the timely use of this technology.

I'm not sure which statute under the TCA (Tennessee Code Annotated) allows the endangering of the public by escorting a football team through intersections. I know it was not an emergency, even though the emergency vehicles were running with lights and sirens. They might be able to fit it in under a funeral procession, but they didn't have a Cadillac with an amber light and they didn't have the little flags nor did the buses have their lights on.:ph34r:

Given the results, I'm sure it was a funeral precession. This is simply another example of arrogance, insecurity, and stupidity. IT'S A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME FOR PETE'S SAKE!

  15. Congratulation to the Rebels on a good win. I think Coach Quarles will not be satisfied with the overall execution. We played pretty sloppy at times. Desmond H. looked really good on a couple of receptions. Jacob W. ran hard and made some great blocks. Shawn P. continues to improve each week. Patton R. missed on a couple of passes but ran the offense well. Congrats to Zac S on a 50 yd fieldgoal.

Not sure trash talking GQ is a good idea. I think Coach Quarles was wanting points up until the buzzer. Maybe Coach Russell should show a little more respect.

Do you think Brint knows What's his name's name yet?

  16. Be careful guys the moons, planets, and stars may be lining up. :roflol::roflolk:

GQ will not run his mouth, to much class. The other will because he is insecure.

"The other will because he is insecure." You nailed it. His insecurity is reflected in how many players he has lost. The ones he has have stayed not out of loyalty, but because they love to play football. If he was more confident, then he would have droves of kids out playing for him. Being tough is one thing, but emotional immaturity does not serve a head football coach very well. How else does one explain only having about 15 freshman playing football?

  17. seems to be doing pretty good to me phoos... i live in maryville although not from here and they're a couple of plays away being 3-0 albeit against semi weak opposition...

Programs that do not have effective development wither on the vine. Not enough players in a 6A school to form a freshman team is not a warning sign, it's a death knell. One has to wonder what in the world is going on that you cannot get 20-30 boys out of a freshman class of over 400 to play football. Also, 2-1 is not a good example especially against the opposition they have played. They are supposed to win those games and didn't against LC.

  18. If this is to be believed, Heritage High School, a Class 6A program, has NO freshman football team? What in the world is going on over there? How can any school expect to continue, nevermind build a football program when they cannot field enough players for a freshman football team? I though Brint Russell was the answer to the program. It doesn't seem like he is inspiring young players to play for him.

Also, rumors going around that people want Russell out. Any truth to that?

  19. Why does everyone keep talking about the past? Who cares about Jon Young! Who cares about where he goes! The one thing I do know is that we have a motivated young coach and a motivated staff! This staff loves these kids and has them fired up! Brint has a lot of great ideas. The things we need to do as a community is get behind these coaches, stay positive, support the players and challenge excuses and good things will happen! Keep up the good work Brint! You and coach Fuller have put together a great staff!

the reason for talking about the past is so that we can assess the future. it is my hope that coach russell & company have tremedous success. however, it is disappointing that the county schools keep losing home-grown coaching talent to other schools. opportunities have come up in the county schools for young coachs to advance and help teams. as scoot posted, rewis wasted a young coache's talent. great programs start with great coaches.

once again, i hope wb and hhs develop long-term success. the kids deserve it. the students deserve it. and the county deserves it.
