  1. Playing better competition is not a bad thing...It will make these girls realize where they need to be to be at a championship level, but also allows the coaches to see who performs under pressure. We are young and GPS has 4 girls who have either signed with Tennessee this year or are committed to Tennessee for next year. And the box score was doing us a favor by saying that we only had 3 errors, but in reality it was at least 6...All total GPS shouldn't have scored more than a 2-4 runs in the first if we make the routine plays, but ended up with 14...Experience is all we gained from this game, but it let our young team see that in order to compete at that level... And you can't run from the good teams forever, this isn't summer ball....

    BigJ,

Didn't realize there were that many errors. The box score only reported 3 errors for Marion. I do agree that you have to play better teams to get better, but you don't want the players to loose confidence either.

Has Marion had some key ball players quit? I heard it but didn't know if it was a rumor or not.

Haven't heard of anyone quitting. Who quit?

  2. Yes indeed,

    Very good post Dore.

I can understand and do agree about the NCAA restriction.

I would like to see the TSSAA move softball to fall.

Surely there's a way the "Softball Community" of the state of Tennessee could make a request to the TSSAA.

With the sport of Softball growing like it is, it a shame it's starting to die in out high schools.

  3. Well my opinion is that it should be moved to the Fall of the year.

1st - Too many weather related cancellations. Move Volleyball (an inside sport) to the Spring.

2nd - More College coaches would be able to see High School games.

Most schools start classes in the 2nd week of August. First practice could be August 10th 2009 and first game would then be September 10th 2009.

Growing pains??? Oh yes, there would be many growing pains. However, if it was done this year, you could go ahead and play this spring and then start back up this fall. No need to skip a 18 months.

    WAIT!!!

I'm not suggesting it be changed this year. But, it could be planned and completed by the fall of 2010.

It basically comes down to one thing. What is best for the kids and the sport?

Just like a couple of pennies... My 2 cents worth...

  4. Has anyone heard anything about Marion Softball this year? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

If their website is correct they have added GPS and Red Bank and they're playing Sequatchie three times again this year.

I know their going to the East Ridge playday but I don't know who they're playing.

  5. yes, she moved up north I think. But that's not a major loss, they can get along just fine.

Well he did surround himself with some good people during the middle school season last fall. If he can find some good help this spring they may surprise a few people.

They only have one senior and a few juniors so most of the team is sophomores and freshman.

    Only time will tell...

  6. Not real sure.

I don't think he made any big mistakes last year but they did have less than 500 season.

Although they did play in a lot of big tournaments, so that might have made some difference.

  7. I'll agree OP.

Jasper and Sequatchie both have new facilities that support the rec program. It does create an interest in softball and baseball.

SP is not a softball town. Football is #1 in SP. It would probably be easier the get the city to build a Rec Football park than it would be to get them to build a 4 field city SB/BB park.

  8. I'll agree OP, South Pittsburg can become a very good team again. You have some talent and you have a great head coach.

    But...

Fields are not your biggest problem.

Local city fields are good for one thing, REC BALL.

Rec-ball does not teach girls to play, and win, at the high school level. If you want to have a successful high school program, these girls have to play travel ball and/or B Select tournys and games.
