  1. 1. Union City 2. Trenton 3. Halls(could be anywhere from 3-5) 4. Bradford(could be anywhere from 3-5) 5. Greenfield(could be anywhere from 3-5) 6. Lake Co. 7. SF 8. Humboldt

UC will make a state run and Im not sure about Trenton and their health issues(if healthy they will be very good)

  2. Halls has won 4 straight... they have 4 of the best starters anywhere with Harris as the clear #1... they struggled a little coming out of the box, but they have really hit their stride now... they play great team ball... look out Union City, Greenfield, and everyone else... I think you have to consider them as the favorite in the district

really man? beat trenton and we will see how good you guys are. The favorite is definitely greenfield. you guys lost to bradford.

  3. Greenfield is good, but Union City is good too. Halls will be much improved, they will be a year older, more mature, and stronger, and former coach has returned. Dont be surprised if Halls makes a run, but I would say Greenfield and Union City are the two teams to beat.

Greenfield lost 3 of their best 4 players in Johnson, Potts, and the catcher. UC, South Fulton, Halls, and Trenton will all be better than them. Union City will win the district and South Fulton will sneek up and get the 2nd spot(SF has the best district rotation with clouse and the junior that i cant remember his name). Halls and Trenton have seemed to choke the last few years with a lot of talent(even though halls was very young last year)Back to greenfield, who will catch? pitch besides crouse? play third? they have too many question marks.

  4. Well, Greenfield has made it to the sub state 2 years in a row, and most of those players are back this year. They are no longer young guys. They're experienced, and should be ready to make a splash in the state tourney this year. We should've been in the state tourney last year....the sub state game with Adamsville should've been won by the Jackets...

    What do yall think?

they should be good again. I figure they will struggle early because of the amount of basketball players. It will be tough for them to advance to state if they do not win their district. A sub state game versus riverside would be brutal. This might be the last time in a while that greenfield will have this much talent so they better take advantage of it this year.

  5. What is baseball. Is that like bowling? Just sarcasm. Just having fun. Relax. Didn't say anything about not playing us in football then getting stuck with a tougher game cuz I'm nice. :roflol::thumb:

well out of boys basketball, girls basketball, football, and baseball dresden is better in football and thats it. i know it kills you for little town greenfield to be better than dresden but it is what it is

  6. No way a class A kid can be called the best hitter in 20 years. The pitching in class A and the size of the

fields boost stats. Many fields are 300 or less down the lines and only 350 or less center. I think your can take a great hitter in class A move him to good AAA team and he becomes about average. Much better pitching and 310 ft home runs become fly ball outs. Take the kid from Jax Northside last year move him to Dresden. He could hit 40+ home runs on the small fields vs A pitching.

have you seen this kid play? single a or not i dont think the kid from northside went the whole year without striking out. he plays on a very elite summer team in west tennessee and dominates on that team as well. You put him in any class and he dominates. You also probably did not know he was intentionally walked at least 25 times and still hit twenty homeruns. The kid hit a bomb at union city in center field which is 400 feet in center(probably 450 feet) as a freshman. He cant help he plays at a small school. ask any coach in west tennessee and see what they say about him. you sir are mistaken.

  7. We always hear from East and Middle Tn. and there players to watch lets hear from the west...

Matt batey from dresden is the best high school hitter I have seen in a long time(21 bombs last year; not a single K); potts and crouse from greenfield. not sure bout the jackson private schools but i am sure they have some studs as well. the gant kid from riverside is one of the best pitchers in the state.

  8. Just 6 weeks until the season kicks off. Who do you got 1-4 on both sides?

    Side 1:

    1. Greenfield(will make state this year)

    2. Union City

    3. South Fulton

    4. Lake County

    Side 2:

    1. Trenton(think they will get the runner-up spot in the tournament and get to region)

    2. Halls

    3.Humboldt

    4. Bradford

I see this as a three team race with greenfield, uc, and trenton

-halls will be very young this year losing a ton from last year

-south fulton is a year away and i think they will be very good in 2012

-humboldt,bradford, and lake county just do not have enough fire power or arms to compete this year

  9. THE GAME AT GLEASON COMBS PLAYED TWO MINUTES BEFORE FOULING OUT. BUT CONGRATS ON THE WIN. GREENFIELD WON, CONGRATS. NOT SURE WHY WE HAD A UNDER CLASSMAN WITH THE BALL WITH UNDER A MINUTE TO GO WHEN COMBS HAD SCORED THE LAST FIVE POINTS FOR BRADFORD. THEN COACH CALLED A PLAY FOR STREET, WHO SHOT A AIR BALL. I AM A BIG STREET FAN, SHE HAS COME ON SINCE THE TROUBLE WITH COMBS AND THE COACH, BUT YOU MUST GO TO THE PLAYER WITH THE HOT HAND. BRADFORD HAS NOT LOOKED GOOD SINCE THE BENCHING OF COMBS, THEY WHERE 7 AND 1 AT THIS POINT, THEN THEY WENT 2 AND 7. I AM NO COACH BUT A SIMPLE MAN CAN FIGURE THIS OUT.

well eddings didn't bench her for nothing.

  10. Perhaps I misunderstand, but the intent of the rules are to prevent overzealous coaches from mandating practicies and activities during certain times of the year. The rules are not designed to prevent a player from improving on his own or at any of the various "academies" that offer cages, pitching tunnels, etc.

I agree with your statement that in many cases a high school player can receive better instruction from one of these type places than they can at school. Many former minor league and college players offer instruction at these facilities. TSSAA cannot prevent a player from working to improve on their own at any time during the year. Its always a good time to get better.

What about the kids who cannot afford to pay to hit or get instruction? I think the restrictions are ridiculous.

  11. Ya know....I used to be one that despised Shane Sisco.....but now I kinda feel bad for him.I saw him at kohls in Jackson the other night and actually said Hi! It's pretty obvious now that he was'nt such a great coach but loaded with talent during the MJ Brown years. By the way he has a very pretty wife. :thumb:

PS.....I guess the same could be said of LC and Humboldt also...lotsa talent, minimal coaching.

I would like to see what Coach Glisson from Bradford could do with LC and UC this year..In my opinion he is the best coach in the district with the worst talent..

  12. Dresden will compete for the district this year with most of their team back and steady improvement. They have the best coach in tennessee and a very experience pitching staff.

best coach in tennessee? I mean i like the guy but that is a bold statement.

  13. Here is the rule on Dead Period from the TSSAA by-laws.

In my opinion, "no open facilities" means facilities are "closed" for student use.

But you can decide for yourself....

Dead Period – No coaching, observing, or contact between coach and players in sport involved. There is no practice, no open facilities, and no weight training / conditioning.

Open Facilities Schools may use their facilities for students in their building prior to or at the conclusion of the school day. Coaches may serve in a supervisory capacity only. There is no instruction, no teaching, no coaching, etc. Coaches may not participate or play in any manner. It is a free play type atmosphere.

So if a "summer team" is playing games on a high school field with someone coaching other than the high school coach does that break the rule or not?

If the high school field is also a field used for other purposes such as babe ruth or legion ball then it would not be illegal unless a high school coach is coaching the "high school summer team". As long as it is a non tssaa team then they can still play wherever they want like a little league team would

  14. i heard he throws up to 107 mph on a good day... but what makes him so deadly is his 69 mph changeup that he will throw at any point in a count. also, he throws a killer slider and nearly unhittable knuckler. he has been scouted since he was 9 years old. good luck uc.... although, uc does have some tough hitters... stevie gosset is always a threat, and don't take their eight hole hitter, caleb long, too lightly.. this should be a good game.

UC gonna get them bats rollin on friday versus Riverside... Stevie Gossett, Cameron Powers, Branson Sherwood, Drake Parker, Tyler Steward, Zack Caveness, and Rance Barnes are all gonna be hittin on friday.. and we are pitching Rance Barnes and he can bring it just as hard lol LETS GET IT!!!

You are out of your mind if you think Barnes throws 85..low 80's at best with mediocre offspeed.. No doubt you guys can hit but pitching has not been a strong point for uc this year.. Yall better come to play if you want to beat the best single a pitcher in west tn.. my prediction.. riverside 12 uc 2 in 5 innings.. riverside is much better than greenfield..

  15. Well, I think any mention of the best players in W. TN would have to include Dalton Potts and Heath Crouse of Greenfield. These two young men are very, very good baseball players and athletes. They can hit, play defense, can pitch, and can play anywhere you put them. I'd have them on my team any day of the week....whether that be single A, AA, or AAA.

You have got to be kidding right?

Yes they are great ball players but you need to take off the single a sunglasses buddy.. I would take them on my team too but their are much better players in west tennessee.. just think about beaty, half of dyer county and dyersburgs team, and not to mention the two brothers from usj.. theses players are in a different league than most in west tennessee.. I would agree that these two are some the best players but i would say they would be two of the best players in single a in west tennessee...

  16. Gibson Co. seems to be doing quite well under Coach Esery (spelling?). He came from Greenfield and seem to have GC playing some good baseball. Hopefully we can keep thsi up.

You have got to be kidding.. you and i both know that essary is not doing squat. covington is even coaching third.. got to be a shot to the midsection to essary.. thats embarrassing

  17. The Jackets lost to W. Carroll tonight 6-4. We had our 3rd and 4th best pitchers pitching tonight. One of our best had pitched the night before against Obion Central, and our other best pitcher was being saved for Gleason Thursday...our rivals. But, the two young fellas did a pretty good job...just a few too many walks and batters hit. But, overall they did okay.

Is West Carroll that good or did you guys just give them the game?

  18. The district is split up this year with milan dyersburg, westview, gibson county, and oc is one division and haywood, ripley, covington and crockett in the other.

I really do not know much about covington and ripley b/c they are coming over from a different district but traditionally they have been really good for the past 10 years or so. I know crockett and haywood are down right dreadful

The other divison: gc will be terrible but will have a chance to win the first game in every district series because trey tate is exceptional. Westview will have really good pitching but will have trouble scoring runs(this is usually the case every year for them) milan is milan and will be fundamentally sound; I also have heard good things about their young kids. Obion will be decent but they never live up to their potential( in my opinion they get outcoached every game they play). Dyersburg will be the favorite on this side of the district b/c they have a great coach and they reload every year. Its ridiculous how much talent comes out of that city and county every year.

    1. covington

    2. ripley

    3.crockett

    4. haywood

    1. dyersburg

    2/3 milan/westview

    4. oc

    5. gibson county
