  1. 1. Did not see the apology, so I was just sticking up for a friend.

    2. I have a life. Just staying around the house this weekend, since that is what they are requesting here in Murfreesboro to avoid congestion while cleaning up.

    3. Looks like it is your head it is getting to, since you had never posted before this topic and you have now posted 7 times on one topic. You might want to go check on that little sheep out back, it's probably starting to miss you. That's a joke, so don't think I was getting all personal and talking about people that own sheep or anything. Best of luck to your Babe Ruth team this year!

Boy, i don't think that i would have made that comment. some people might think you like your sheep a little to well. does yours miss you! you know what i mean!

  2. This is my first post (which you can probably tell since I flubbed my first attempt) but I could no longer stand to not respond to some of the post on this forum. First let me say that I am from Cookeville. To some of the others from Cookeville that post items such as their frustrations with budget issues, please don't air our dirty laundry here. If you have legitmate concerns please voice them in our booster meetings as you had the opportunity to do so. As for Coach Chaffin, I may not agree with his every decision but since his baseball resume is far more extensive then mine, I give him the benefit of the doubt. No good for our kids or our program can come from constantly bashing our coach. It only makes us look silly to the rest of the baseball world.

My first post on the lebanon vs. cookeville was all that i was going to say and it would have ended with that, but it's like the utvols man said, and I am glad that he pointed that out, i never thought about it that way, but he even noticed how these lebanon and riverdale guys provoke us to keep saying things about coach chaffin. you may have missed the first booster club meeting, where chaffin told all the parents that he doesn't want to listen to anything that they have got to say, and that their opinions and suggestions don't mean anything to him and he is not going to listen to it. basically saying it's his way or the highway. so why would parents bother bringing up anything at these meetings? yeah, like you said, we have dirty laundry alright!

  3. Yes to cell phone - Coaches talk baseball year round (scheduling, etc...)

I guess you don't want to mow the field, just play in a pastoral setting? Maybe cut it for hay later?

I guess you don't want to play in any tournaments anywhere? Just play district games and maybe a team around the corner every now and then? That would cut out the need for a bus. And don't get umpires, just have mom and dad call the game. And since you don't travel anywhere anymore you can cut out feeding the kids.

My papa always told me never argue with an unarmed man so I am not posting this as the beginning of an argument, just trying to understand where you want Cookeville baseball to be? From what I read you want every kid to play, playing time based on financial sacrifice and not talent and you want to play all your games at home, using the same baseballs every night, in a pasture with no umpires. Does that sum it up pretty well???? /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Coach Chaffin's cell phone did get cut out. He pays for his own now like everyone else does, yell wouldn't mind if they played in a pastoral setting, our Dads, Grandfathers & Great Grandfathers played in a pasture with no umpires and had a lot of fun doing it LOL and yeah the way some of these umpires call games Moms and Dads could do just as good, you can't use the same baseball twice? no, don't play all the games at home and yeah they need a bus, just feel the budget is exaggerated at times. Oh, and we don't feed our kids at home? Chaffin does play his best nine most of the time, the problem is that he doesn't play them in the positions where they would produce the most, because he worries about one boy really showing up another in that position, and that just can't happen, he has his favorites and it shows really bad.

  4. Bullethead, i can assure you that there is no way Coach Chaffin is on here reading this crap. No coach i have ever been around cares anything about what is said on here, and they darn sure don't care what your opinion is on who ought to play. You talk about the baseball program budget like Cookeville is the only program that has a budget like that. They aren't! How do you think a baseball program runs? magic beans and pixie dust? leave money out of this because all this coach chaffin stuff isn't about money and you know that. It's about kids not playing as much as momma and daddy think they should. Coach Chaffin has not done anything wrong besides losing his cool at a booster club meeting, which he apologized for. Have you ever popped off and said something you wish you hadn't? I'll bet the house that you have. Now, lets say you pop off something you regret, do you want the person to forgive you and move on? Of course you do, so give that same courtesy to him. Its called the Golden Rule, check it out, its in a book you might have heard of, the Bible. Also, lets call it what it is, Coach Chaffin wasn't asked to resign, he was told he was going to resign by the director of schools who was being bullied by a school board member, illegally, backed by a couple unhappy parents. Here's an idea, quit hiding behind a screenname bashing a coach, and call him and set up a meeting with him and work stuff out. If your not willing to do that, then shut your mouth. I mentioned the Bible a while ago. I grew up in a God-fearing household and I learned that the Bible says if you have a problem with someone, you go to that person and work it out. You sure as heck don't get on a message board and gossip about them (gossip is another biblical no-no, by the way). If only i knew who you were, i would certainly be discussing this with you face to face, however i can't because you like to throw punches from behind a screenname. So, i've said what i wanted to say. Went from red-faced mad to laughing to smiling, and you know, through it all, I'm a Cavalier Fan. I like all of them, all 40-something players and all five coaches. I can assure you they are all pulling in the same direction. If all the parents will get on board and pull in the same direction with them, there is no telling what this year's Cavalier team could do. However, If your not willing to jump on the train, there is good news! Putnam County doesn't zone their schools, and there are two other high schools in Putnam County that play decent baseball. Take your kid to one of them, i'm sure they'd love to have him. On a lighter note, GO CAVS!

I don't have to shut my mouth! I have as much right to have my say-so on here as you do. I don't care if Coach Chaffin reads this stuff. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it either. and yeah, you ought to know it is all about the money, you have paid the coach off, how much did it take? that's why you rooted for Butch to keep his job, because you knew if someone else took over yours wouldn't see the field as much, because their are more that can step up and do the job better. and yes, I have talked to other programs and their budget is half of what Cookeville's is, and they do just fine. Oh, and you say set up a meeting and talk to Coach Chaffin what good would that do. I heard that the 1st booster club meeting of the year he makes it clear to the parents that he does not care what they have to say, don't even bother him, but yet if it weren't for the parents he wouldn't have a baseball team. also this isn't about religion, it's about Politics.

  5. Shoot! He better worry b/c that is why the last quality coach left you guys. That's the problem with high school sports. Parents get way too envolved, instead of being there to help, they try to coach. All is well for a coach until they start losing. Win you're a genious. Lose and you're the village idiot. It is very easy to say what you would do after a game is over. Plus this isn't college or the pros where the coaches are getting paid more than the president. So cut coaches a break! Most high school coaches get paid something like .01 an hour when you add up all the time they put in to coaching the kids. Plus not to mention the time they sacrifice from their own families to spend time coaching your kids for that amazing pay! They give up a lot to spend time with your kids. The least you could do is support them come heck or high water but that just isn't the way it is anymore. Win you stay for a while and lose and it is time for you to find a new job. Let's put this into perspective for parents that like to size up coaches jobs. That's fine and dandy as long as you return that favor and let the coach come to your place of work and let him follow you around and then at the end of the day tell you his opinion of what you did wrong and what you could have done better. This is about the same thing and i don't think anyone would want a monkey on their shoulder while they are at work. If you want a job coaching that is great! Go back to college and get a bs in education, or just apply for a high school coaching job, or go try your hand at the local babe ruth league! Wait a minute......That is where most of these dad critics come from.....The local Babe Ruth League......I stand corrected anyone who coaches Babe Ruth has every right to criticize a high school coach!!!!!!!! Babe Ruth Coaches are baseball GURU'S!!!!!!!!!

Seriously! lay off the coaches and teach your sons and daughters to be team players no matter winning or losing. That way they'll be more productive citizens one day. heck it's just a game, let the coachs coach and the kids PLAY.

what's babe ruth coaches got to do with this? i'm not a coach and don't even have a dog in this hunt, but i don't like you talking down about br coaches, i have known some fine br coaches. who else besides dad's are going to coach these boys during the summer months to keep letting these boys play ball. i don't see no high school coaches around here offering to do it. and as far as you thinking that Cookeville parents shouldn't be involved, well you are wrong. Cookeville High does pay Chaffin a supplement for coaching, it is up to the parents to pay for everything else, including assistant coaches supplements, which before this year was 9,500 now it's 7,500. their baseball booster club budget was brought to my attention in the fall and before this year the parents had a 60,000 budget to uphold, oh the coaches for this season knocked off 12,000 so they still had a little over 48,000 to have to come up with. do you think the parents should have had to pay for Coach Chaffin's cell phone? not just during baseball season, but for the whole year which totalled 900.00 come up with 300.00 from the get go just for their boys to be on the team. pay for a lawn mower that came to 5,800 pay for baseballs over a 1,000 pay for lawn care over 5,000 pay for the coaches clothes and shoes totalling 600.00 pay for the coaches motel rooms 350.00 tournament fees 1,000 their bus 8,000 umpires 3,500 food for the team 3,500 and the list goes on. so, you think the parents might feel like they were taken advantage of? Chaffin would come into their booster club meetings and talk down to these parents and belittle them as if they were kids. and yes, he was asked to resign and did, but they are giving him a second chance and he is on probation. and yes, coaches do make sacrifices, but it shouldn't be a burden to them. they should love what they are doing. cookeville parents pay way beyond for their baseball program, so yes they should have major say so in the way things are done. so tell me, is this how Lebanon's program works? probably not, so you people might want to keep you're opinions to yourself. and yes all this is fact!!!

  6. Off the subject, but we played Cookville last weekend and I would just like to know what the heck the guys in the dugout are saying. ?? LOL

Not that it's bad, I actually like to hear a lively dugout, but also like to know what they are saying. Anyone have any idea?

BTW......think they have even more potential than what they showed us. Pitching wasn't real strong, but then again, it was a rainy day. Overall a strong team though.

thanks for the confidence in us. it's good to hear! i don't know what these boys are saying i have asked, but get no reply i think they get a little to loud sometimes

  7. lol. Ethan Davis made three errors in one inning at first base against Dyer County. Jeb has never played outfield and has back trouble, seems really smart to play him in center. Keep your "arm chair coaching" to yourself until you know the full story. In a related note, are you trying to set the record of times "arm chair" is said in a thread? Check out a thesaurus bud. Catcher? Wise is a better catcher, Davis does have the better arm. I'd much rather have the pitchers throw to Wise due to defense. Catching is a position notorious for the glove getting you far (see Ausmus, Brad). Both bats are in the lineup however, so its a mute point.

  8. /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> we need a coach that encourages his players not cuss them out every time they make a mistake this is totally wrong when boys are intimidated instead of being praised or given some type of encouragement, yell it is going to effect the way they play ball.

  9. who's going to get nod at third since our starter is out, didnt see anything i liked in the 3 games we played friday.

who is going to step up.

looks like things aren't going to change at third base after last night. r. burroughs could possibly be better at 3rd, but does the coach try to make any changes? yell, some things never change.

  10. sr. pitching weak to nonexistant, some good jr and soph need to step up. hitting - we have some just depends who is in the line up. dont have big sticks like ly but see a couple could step up

I think we have big sticks just like last year, just wait and see!

capable but not sure we will

Oh, but Cookeville did and pretty bad.

  11. cookville isnt that good they dont have a chnace they only beat bga's jv squand 3 juniors. they mostly just beat a jv pitcher and a kid with a knuckle ball ..not impressive at all

sounds to me like excuses are already being made. if you want to beat the best you bring your varsity and make no excuses when you can't

  12. look i am playing arm chair coach. and with the past actions of this coach he seems to have a habit of playing about 7 out of nine best, so far this year it has been a pleasant surprise. lets take last yr for example just 2 for instances,

we are playing siegel at their place when catcher throws ball into right field and siegel wins the game. yes we make errors but if we would have had the correct catcher(reeder) behind the plate this never would have happened. we had options at 3rd. 2nd example ss made numerous errors every game we cringed when ball was hit that way, cost us gameat lincoln co. plenty options at ss last year. as far as the 200 wins congradulations but cookeville has the talent to compete with the murfreeboros. if we put the best nine in the right spot as a coach should do. now this yr

our cf if playing good ball right now however for 2 yrs we tried to make him an ss and it was a comedy of errors

which cost us games. as far as giving coach the benefit of the doubt when he shows he deserves it i will but for now he can get that from his ten friends. again i hope the cavs go all the way and through games today i think he has done a better job. i know fans its early we just hope he makes the necessary changes as changes are needed. because yes i think we have the talent but lets not waste it for example like putting a player like bf from last yr in the out field instead of on short or third or leaving him in the dugout. great kid who never complained just goes out everyday and plays the game like it should be as your motto says hard 90 so i guess us armchair coaches wouldnt post on here if he coached hard 90. ask some of the players and they will tell you winning the district was one thing will never forget even the ones who played minimal. yell they want to play but they know who should be on the field because they want that feeling again and again they dont want to wait til next yr when we are not in as strong of a district that we should dominate they want it now. put the best nine out there and win with the nine best not the seven best all year long. and then i can put my pen to rest. this should be some of the best times of their lives playing a game and knowing we all went hard 90 so coach hard 90 and 10, 29 years now they can be proud to introduce their kids to their high school baseball coach, because it was about the game and putting something into their lives and not about the coach or coaches

    You Go! tromo I Agree

  13. The job of a baseball coach is to win games. To keep his job, he has to win games. Why people think that a baseball coach would play kids just because he likes the kid or doesn't like another kid is dumb and downright ignorant becuase that wouldn't give him the best chance to win games and keep his job. That being said, second guessing coaching decisions on here is one thing, i don't like it, but its tolerable, but calling out a kid on here, that is quite uncalled for. A player is put into a lineup, and he goes and plays as hard as he can. That is all you can ask of a kid. He is a high school ballplayer. They make mistakes. Do you think they try to make mistakes on purpose? Absolutely not. Getting on a message board and blasting them for those mistakes is cowardly, because if it weren't, you'd grab em after the game and just blast them right there, but you won't do that, becuase then people know who you are. If it was your kid getting blasted on here, you would not be happy, so don't blast other people's kids. Be positive. Talk about what the Cavs did well, and fro the game on Tuesday night, you have quite a bit to be positive about. They hit the ball well, and beat a team they were supposed to beat and it was a good first game. Also, i saw that it was Coach Chaffin's 200th career win. Congratulations to him on that accomplishment. The man has won 200 games as a head coach and is one year removed from a district title in arguably the toughest district in the state, he is obviously doing something right, so lay off a little and be supportive! Give him the benefit of the doubt, and support the program. Because there aint no sense in doing anything else. Go Cavs!

Coaches make mistakes to. Everyone knows in small towns like Cookeville, when it comes to Sports, its all Political. It always has been and it always will be. What about the boy that just got put on the team a few months ago. He never had to try out or anything, like all the rest of our boys did. Was that fair to our boys that had to work hard at tryouts to earn their spot to become a member on the baseball team! Coaches aren't always fair, and do things the right way. So is that not political, or what!

  14. 5 and half hours and counting til first pitch please put best nine in starting lineup and lets roll

    Pitcher- Mason Espinosa

    1st- Ethan Davis

    2nd- Tevis Sherfield

    SS- Judah Akers

    3rd- Ryan Harpe

    Left Field- Daniel Rechichar

    Center Field- Demond Tubbs

    Right Field- Tyler Sherfield

    Catcher- Jared Davis

  15. tell me something about Cookville, pitching, hitting, young, experienced?

Cookeville has some Great Talent on this team. The Coach needs to put his best players where they produce the most. All these boys have experience. They have been playing since T-ball, and most of them have played together every since.

  16. well starting lineup for first game a pleasant surprise except for catcher. sophmore cather dh'ed but should have been behind the plate no comparison between the 2. i guess they could have dh'ed the junior catcher but oh yell you have to be able to hit

I totally agree with you tromo. Great Starters, except for the Junior catcher. Sophomore should be the starting catcher every ball game. Coach should have changed the line up when the ball game got totally out of control. Let the others get a chance to play!

  17. there you go have watched enough to know who i think should be starters will finish by sunday the other half of who probaly will start after saturdays scrimmage so come on guys what do you think
