  1. Quit making excuses and admit the you got beat by a better team!!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

As they say here in TN, "I don't have a dawg in this hunt !" Just an observation I made while watching the play. I didn't need a "source" to tell me about it. I always get a kick about people stating "facts" when they weren't there ! And I think if you read the post you note I stated the Faragut scored the runs to win...No disrespct to anyone.

  2. Farragut's Pfeifer carried a no-hitter into the 5th, and was replaced by Mac Thoreson after a couple of walks. Thoreson finished for the save, allowing an RBI infield out in the bottom of the 7th. According to my sources, Curt Powell made a major-league play on that infield grounder to keep Collierville from starting a big rally.

Ethan Bennett crushed a 3-run HR to left center that probably carried close to 390 feet, for all the runs the Admirals would need. I understand Farragut plays Blackman Wednesday at 12:30 at Oakland.

    Congrats to the Admirals!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

According to sources??? He got a glove on the ball, bobbled the ball, recovered the ball....... but the fact that the batter was unable to run due to a bad knee made the out. Evan Frazier beats that out any (other) day....gutsy play by Frazier just to be at bat. The inning started with a John Jordan triple to straight center, (that kid is fast)

Credit to Faragut, they got the runs, but Collierville(as banged up as they are) didn't make it easy.

  3. I wouldnt call that a dumb move walking Sisco if first base was open..Bowers is good enough to make them pay but i dont think it was a dumb move

It was a pretty smart move, Bowers struck out twice prior, and was off balance on both of them. Credit to Bowers, he went down to "golf" a low inside pitch over the fence.

  4. Blackman vs. Independence. What are we thinking about this matchup? With Blackman already beating Independence once this season, will independence be able to match the swag of the Blaze? And with Blackman striding at the right time, will they be tough to stop?

Early season tournament loss on a very, very sloppy field. (true, both teams did play on it). I don't think that game would tell anyone anything. Independence has plenty of "swag". The Eagles have their own streak going and are not ready to stop playing ball yet ! Should be a good night for baseball with a full house on both sides.

  5. But WHAT THE HECK WAS MOORE THINKING? Why did we throw our ace in a game that did not matter? I don't know if we can make it to state or not. You have to save your best for Friday's game.

I doubt you KNOW as much as you think you do. Every deck of cards has more than 1 ACE, they are just different suits. I'm beginning to think you are just a name dropper, you only repeat the names you hear. The Eagles are much more than the 4 names I have seen you repeatedly parrot. Go Eagles !!!

  6. Independence over Overton 9 to 8 in a slugfest. Independence hosts sectional game. Sounds like Clarksville will be coming to visit.

1st inning had HR from both teams, Josh Lee's good for 2 runs

latter in the game (5th?) Blake Carden had a monster 3 run blast to put Indy up for good

Overton kept hitting the ball as well, scoring 3 runs on a bases loaded double to left field that got caught in the swirling winds and fell just short of the fence.

  7. Not sure who is pitching on either side as tonight's game determine's nothing more than game location -- the real game is Friday night and both will save their 1 and probably 2 for that.

Should be interesting this evening. Both teams have a lot of pride, and I don't think either one wants to drive to Clarksville !!! Playing in front of a Mt Juliet crowd (very "supportive") would not be my choice either.

Independence is on top in the "series" 2 to 1, but all of the games have been close (8 -5 and 7 -6 Indy wins, 8 -7 Overton win)

I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of pitching by "commitee" from either side

  8. Connor Moore has a very strong arm, but he is not very mobile and only slightly above average (at best) at blocking pitches in the dirt. If you can't throw the nasty ball with 2 strikes, you loose an advantage. The catchers at Independence and Brentwood are better all around catchers. Coachs quit running against Indy's #26 for a reason !

  9. Hey Bobcats 10

Both Overton and Independence will do well in the post season. Both teams hit the ball well (and hard).

Niether team in Distict 12AAA can hang with either of 11AAA represenatives.

(this is baseball though, and stranger things have happened)

I will admit that costly errors (E usually = Run)were made by both teams in the championship game, but there were some stellar defensive plays from both sides as well.

As to coaching, it's real easy to sit outside and question a move by a coach, they usually know what is going on with their team though. Coach Moore looked good at the end of 8 !

  10. District 11 AAA final

    Independence 7 Overton 6 in 8 innings

Independence carried a 6 to 2 lead into the bottom of the 7th, Overton hit the ball hard and tied the game.

Independence manufactured a run out of a lead off walk, a 2 strike sac bunt, a ground out to advance the runner to 3rd, then a grounder misplayed at third to score the run.

    Congratulations to the Eagles !!!!

  11. GOT WORD LATE THAT THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IS GOING TO BE PLAYED RIGHT AFTER THE FRANKLIN/OVERTON GAME, DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE? IF SO, WHY? I HAVE MY THEORY

It's true. Overton vs Franklin followed by Independence vs Winner.

A major conspiracy by the district to keep Franklin from moving on ?

Or, could it be the 50%+ chance for heavy rain Friday and Saturday on already saturated ground ?!!

  12. Eagles looked pretty good last night, but Ravenwood was not ready much like the game I heard against Overton and Franklin. Weather permitting, I'd say Indy loses because they become too cocky and are not humbled. But I still think they make the district championship against Overton or Franklin. However, Franklin has a very tough road to get there.

The Eagles looked SOLID last night. B Miller was impressive on the mound, and the bats were working. Ravenwood had a couple of errors, but YOUR boys were hitting the ball. Support your team. If you don't support your teams because of some posts on a website, your missing the point of high school (or college) sports.

As for cocky ?? Try confident. A solid group of Seniors on this team with a will to get things done. 11 conference wins in a row, including Ws over Franklin, Brentwood (scored 10 allowed 1 in 2 games), Ravenwood (no hitter) and Centenial (scored 21 allowed 3 in 2 games) And in their early season split with Overton (Indy 15 runs Overton 13, for what it's worth)

So EaglesFlyHigh, come on out to the Fiesta deck and enjoy some salsa with your baseball !!! Some do like it HOT

  13. Tuesday night at Independence

    Brentwood 13 Hillwood 1

Independence 10 Ravenwood 0 5 inning NO HITTER for sophomore Brian Miller !!!!

    Weather permitting Weds games

    Ravenwood vs Brentwood

    followed by

    Independence vs RWood/BWood winner

  14. Would Overton be the top seed in district in the region tournament regardless of winning the district?

What is the district tournament format? Single elimination? Fri/Sat Mon/Tues?

On the other hand, there are still 2 district games left...and anything can happen in this great game.

    Franklin has Ravenwood Mon/Tues

    Independence has Brentwood Mon/Tues.

Both these series will detemine seeds 2 through 6

My understanding is Overton is the top seed and guaranteed a spot in the Region.

I have not seen the format for our district tournament yet, I have heard pool, then double elimination.

Out of the top 3 teams, Overton has proven to be the most consistent. The tournament will be tough, but the team(s) that get out should represent the district well on up the line.

  15. I will give credit to Rowe, when he didn't walk the Franklin batters (he had quite a bit), he held them in check for most of the game. The Rebels just didn't hit the ball very well, it happens. It was a good, exciting high school baseball game, and Indy came out on top. Who knows what would have happened if they would have played when they were originally supposed to, but since the Indy field was "too wet" I guess they had to move it. Maybe.

So here's the story on the "classless" coach. After the game, the Franklin coaches and Independence coaches shook hands near home plate while Coach Moore was with the Indy players going through the line with the Franklin players. So, Moore and Franklin Coach Brown didn't shake hands, no big deal because they just weren't in the same area, and Franklin started to go back to the dugout. Moore came over to the Franklin dugout and asked why Brown didn't shake hands with him, and Brown said it was because Moore was with his players, so he shook hands with the assistant coaches. Then Moore said to the Franklin players who were standing there, "Look how much class your coach has boys," or something very similar to that. Sounds to me like it was Indy Coach Moore who didn't show very much class. I don't care what happens, a coach should NEVER say anything bad about a team's coach right in front of the whole team.

A different story emerged form the other side of the field and it cast the Franklin coach in a bad light. Seems the Franklin coach and team were still harping about the original game being moved. Things went down from there.....

The field was border line at best for the original date. Independence had just received a field tarp, but was not set up to hold it down in other than calm conditions. and it blew up in heavy winds and rains.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...........baseball is great, every play has the ability to effect the outcome of the game. Bottom line, Indy wins 4 to 3

It was a fun game to watch !

  16. Independence #26

Solid defensively, good hands, quick feet, blocks well

Opposing coaches don't waste many base runners on him.

Solid snap throws to first and third (likes left handed batters with a runner on !)

Good power to both sides of the field

Handles his pitchers well and calls his own game.

  17. Here's another one......

    Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs

Double steal , batter takes the pitch, never moves (take sign from coach)

Catcher tries to throw to 3rd and hits the batter (who has never moved, feet in box, bat on shoulder)

Umpire makes no call, defensive coach objects strenuously

Umpire calls the batter out, says the batter must make an attempt to get out of the catchers way.

Batter is also a catcher, a good catcher steps back to make the throw to third, so if the batter steps "back" he is obstructing the throw. He has been taught to make that play at second, so if he steps "up" he is obstructing the throw to second.

So, based on blues call, the best way to get the runner at third is to hit the batter !

  18. Well, it just sounds like Franklin is somewhat down this year mainly from graduating so much talent.

I'm going to say, at this point:

    Independence *Deep and balanced

Overton *Young, but talented, and can come from behind when needed.

Centennial *You are never safe with Kemp in the lineup; not sure about their pitching.

    Brentwood *Great pitching, though.

Ravenwood *I have not seen them play yet -- they may very well be better than this.

    Franklin

This week should reveal a lot about how this district will shake out. Independence has Ravenwood 2x and Franklin 2 x. Overton and Brentwood face off 2 x as well. By Friday night the boys will have done the "talking" on the field. Hope the weather holds ! If Independence stays focused on the game they are playing each night, they are strong !

  19. I have seen a few posts out there that seem to feel that Farragut did not "want" to win. I've been around youth sports for 20 years, very seldom do the players not want to win. This is baseball, things happen 1 pitch at a time. I think those that watched the game would agree, this was a hard played game. I saw full effort from both teams. Take nothing from Farragut, but give Independence credit. The Eagles have a very solid team, the roster is not as long as some of the "name" schools, but the kids work hard and play hard.

Independence hit the ball well all weekend, and will continue to hit the ball this year, so district play should be fun. Farragut is Farragut, they have a program that will continue to turn out excellent players and they will win lots of games.

My only issue with Farragut was their refusal to accept the 2nd place trophy. An insult to the tournament (McCallie put on a great tournament, thanks coach) and a slap at the Eagles (intended or not). That teaches the kids a whole lot doesn't it !
