  1. Not the issues. No one is blaming the quality of the field for any results that have yet to occur, and two opposing teams always have to play on the same field.

The issue is that the teams in the finals deserve a showpiece setting. The fact that the outlying fields at the same complex are better conditioned is crazy. How difficult could it have been to prioritize the maintenance of the fields at the complex?

Yeah I completely agree. The funny part is, the fields that the games are being played on are the ones that all the club teams practice on constantly. For the most part, not much goes on in the stadium. It's mostly the outlying fields that you refer to that have the most action so it makes no sense to why the Stadium is not pristine.

  2. The field is really not in bad shape. We have played several games on it since a few weeks ago and it is not near as bad as it may appear. The 7-AAA District tournament was played on that field and there was also a Region tournament game and Sectional game there. If teams are playing there for a State Championship, then they have been through enough during the season to not have to fall back on blaming the field. I agree it is not in the best shape, but it's at least the correct size and overall in pretty decent shape. Besides, both teams on the field have to play in the same conditions...

  3. I will share my observations, as i saw this play develop...

    1. It was a RHS corner kick by #12 (from GK's right corner).

    2. FCHS left near-post unguarded.

    3. Kick was low and hard, with top spin.

    4. RHS #10 was charging and attempted to redirect ball with header.

    5. FCHS defender (believe #7) was trailing RHS #10.

    6. #7 lifted his knee and foot and I believe was surprised ball missed #10.

    7. Ball deflected off #7 leg into net by near-post.

    8. GK had no chance to stop.

    9. The ball could have been barely touched by #10. Or maybe he thought he hit it.

Those were my simple observations from nearby. However, none of that matters. What I consider important is the following...

    1. Riverdale is a very young, talented, unselfish group of boys that played hard and played well last night. Believe me, those kids could care less who gets "credit" for a goal. Their biggest (if not only) concern is wins and losses. That is from the top down. The coach is only focused on "team".

    2. Franklin County deserves tons of credit for: 1) a beautiful soccer complex, 2) an enormous and vocal crowd that was the best I have seen in several years (for high school), and 3) the unbelievable effort put forth by their team. Those kids hustled on every play the entire game! It was unfortunate how the final goal was scored. However, it was not surprising seeing the significant number of close calls, near-miss opportunities, and the two goals that were called back. The FCHS defense and goalkeeper should be commended.

I agree completely. I was just providing an explanation to the guy who seems upset for really no reason at all. And nobody is trying to prop Alex up because nobody really cares. Alex couldn't care less if he has credit or not. As a team, Riverdale is very strong. Yes they are good, but I'm talking about Team as in cohesiveness and and wanting to play hard for each other just as this post says. It was a fantastic game and I expect just as much from the game tomorrow night between LaVergne and Riverdale. Regions will definitely end with a bang!

  4. why are the newapapers giving the winning goal to alex pope when it was a own goal

riverdale has a good team but they get bottled up on one side of the field for too much short passing 30 times in a row

if they would switch the point of attack riverdale would had alot more chances

The goal was credited to Alex Pope because from the cross, he flicked it and then it was deflected but he was the one with the shot. Whether you don't want to consider it his goal or not doesn't really matter, I'm just giving the reason. Riverdale would also have a lot more chances if the side judge wouldn't call offsides on 3 goals and offsides on 4 other occasions just because he got nervous in a big game.

  5. Brentwood 1

    Riverdale 0

    Anyone have the details ?????????????

This game was extremely hard-fought. Brentwood scored about mid-way through the first half by a score in the middle of chaos in the box. It was just one of those goals that happen. Other than that, Riverdale played strong defense and got to the half only down 1-0. In the second half, Riverdale stepped up the pressure and it made a difference on the play of the Brentwood backs and keeper. Riverdale got many chances in the second half all the way up to the final minutes. Some of the chances were just a deflection away of being a goal. This game could easily have been a 1-1 tie or a 2-1 Riverdale win. But that's just based on the last 20 min of the game. Obviously Brentwood had chances too that they did not convert but those chances did not seem as promising as the ones Riverdale had. Great game to watch and both of these teams fought till the end.

  6. Riverdale has had some struggling moments but have been resilient. Hendersonville is a strong team but Riverdale also had the 3rd Keeper start so it made it look overpowering in the beginning. Riverdale has already been dealt a tough blow by losing the starting keeper with an injury but it will not affect the overall play of the team. They have a young team and they will only get stronger as the year goes on. It is great that Coach Arman has put together a difficult schedule this year which will really demand the best out of the young team. It will be exciting to watch the progression this year and people will be surprised to find out that Riverdale is not a 2 or 3 player team as some people have suggested about last year's team. 7AAA will be fun as always!

  7. Do you really feel as if RHS will be able to put in three goals against Columbia?

Yes, I do think Riverdale can put 3 up. Especially if they can get 1 in the first half. Riverdale has played some really good teams this year and hasn't had any trouble putting up goals. I know Columbia is tough and I'm sure it will be a close game. I'm hoping Riverdale comes out strong and gets a win. I don't think they need 3 goals to win, but if they get one in the first half, it could happen.

  8. Great win for Riverdale. Considering how slow they started out in this game, I look for a really strong start in the game on Thursday. But Riverdale has been a 2nd half team all year. Usually putting up 1 goal or so in the first half and then several in the 2nd half. But talk about a short bench, Riverdale realistically only has 2 to 3 people that come of the bench, if that. Arman has a rigorous and effective conditioning program and it is certainly paying off now. I see a very focused Riverdale team showing up Thursday. Hope it goes their way. Go Warriors.

  9. There is a lot of talk about how it's not fair to hand the game to the deservedly-so higher-seeded Riverdale but let's not forget, Siegel was handed their first-round game with a win because the game could not be played. Granted it was against White Co. who has only one district win, but if people are going to cry about giving a team a chance, then there is no difference between giving Siegel, the higher-seeded team, the win. Same situation. It's not different just because you think Siegel had a good chance at beating Riverdale. Anything can happen on a given day. Honestly, I believe after Riverdale's first two games, Siegel would not have pulled it out. All about Siegel's momentum, how about Riverdale going undefeated in the regular season, getting doubted throughout the tournament and still came out and won 7-0 and 5-0. What about that momentum? Riverdale, as the higher seed, was rewarded with a game just as Siegel was. There is no use in complaining now just because it is your team being forced to give up the game. Plus, as a reminder, both coaches met and agreed not to play the game. Maybe Siegel fans should talk to the coach as well instead of blaming it on the system or another team and coach.

  10. I just want to say congratulations to Coach Arman and the Riverdale Warriors for their play so far. Not many people had them making it to the final after the great regular season they had and to come out and dominate the game was impressive. They really showed heart and showed they are prepared to keep on going. Congrats to Cookeville and Oakland for great seasons and Congrats to Siegel for their big win. It's going to be a great rematch between Riverdale and Siegel for the Championship!

  11. Ok assuming the top 4 advance I see this happening out.

    Blackman v Riverdale

Blackman comes out strong first half but gets shut down in 2nd , Dale wins 3-1

    Oakland v Siegel

I believe this rematch is going to be the best game of the tour, Oakland is a much improved team since the begining of the year and will shut down Toats and there offense as most of there team will be tired from the previous games. Oakland wins this game 3-2 in the last few mins...

    Final

    Oakland vs Riverdale

Both teams come out strong and score early and ends up in a extra half in which Oakland wins 3-2.

Just my thoughts of how it could play out /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />

    GO PATS

It would definitely be a great game to watch. I know that Oakland is a much better team now than when Riverdale played them earlier in the year. It all starts tonight. We'll see what happens!

  12. All that said then. Blackman Oakland final. And as much as I wish differently, Oakland takes it. No disrespect meant toward Riverdale and Siegel. Great teams and great seasons. I just don't see R'dale shutting Zeek down twice. Vice has already given indications in the paper that he knows what he will do different. Boynton is just going to have his team full out flat out for the tournament.

I think a Blackman-Riverdale match will definitely be interesting. Though their coach has been in the paper about knowing what to do different with Zeeck, don't assume Arman at Riverdale isn't also coming up with new plans. It will be something to watch that's for sure.

  13. All I am saying, I probably sounded like I was downgrading them, but all I meant was that I would not be so "Hyped up" I guess would be a more appropriate term. I play travel at that age group and yes, they are in D2, and I didn't know that they played in a State Championship. But all I am saying is ITS D2 nowhere near the competition of D1. If Riverdale's coach can take them in and turn them into great, skillfull, and smart players, I will be very impressed with him. That's all I have to say, again not trying to demoralize the Strikers at all, just saying that they are nothing special...as of now.

I understand. I realize it is D2 but that doesn't mean they aren't skillful players. That's all that I was saying. After being to the Strikers games and practices and watching them play as well as at Riverdale, I think they are skilled. Of the starters at Riverdale, 4 freshman and 1 of the sophomores, are from that Strikers team and 1 of the players that comes off the bench and Riverdale certainly had a strong season. So i think the development that you are talking about is already taking place. That's all I was pointing out. Those players along with all the other strong players that are at Riverdale provide the recipe for success.

  14. Just a curious question (you don't have to give me an answer, it's your call), are you a player for Riverdale?

No, I'm not a player. as my name suggests, I have a brother on the team. I'm in college and graduated from Riverdale and now that my brother plays, I try to make it to every Strikers and RHS game.

  15. That is an understanding response as Riverdale is never underestimated by anyone. I was just adding that Patrick, Eli, and Pleitez (junior, I know) were the greatest assets to the team this year.

And did you mean Strikers 94? I know that Strikers 93 didn't play in the state tournament in fall 2008, and next year's sophomores should be in the '94 age group. I know that Strikers 92 won the state tournament, and their team consists of many Siegel players and a few Oakland players. I do think that all Strikers teams played the Division 2 state tournament as well.

Yeah it is Strikers 94 that was my fault. They did play in a state championship game this last Select season because I was there and the team that beat them was playing at their home complex so wherever that was. I went to all their games this last year and I know they were in a state championship. At what level I'm not sure. But it is exciting to see them all play together. And actually, we still do have at least a few that will be freshmen at Riverdale next year off of that Strikers team.

As for futbol20, it's sad to hear someone say that they wouldn't be happy to have any of those players. They are definitely missing something. The point is that at least 7 or 8 of those Strikers will be playing the next 4 years for the Strikers and Riverdale seasons.

  16. Not to take anything away from the young talent of Riverdale, but the two starting seniors were a giant part of the success in their season this year.

We will see what happens next year. Yes, Patrick Compton in the middle and Eli Genet on defense was a big help but the players they overshadowed are definitely capable. But with Patrick and Eli, we really didn't get a look at the others. By next year almost the entire Strikers '93 team will either be Freshmen or Sophomores at Riverdale and that strikers team played in the State Championship this last off-season. Undefeated in 7AAA plus 6 other wins and only 1 loss to McCallie and a tie vs. Baylor, qualifies as making some noise. Patrick and Eli will certainly be missed but the days of good teams at Riverdale are just beginning.

  17. Don't worry. Riverdale is never overlooked by any of their opponents. We know what kind of team they have had, have and will have.

Just keep in mind that most of the posts about Blackman, Warren Co., etc are made by people close to those teams. If any of us want to get our team noticed on here for the right reasons, post it, post it with class (not an attack or you or anyone else, I just hate some of the trash talk on here) and people will read it and take it to heart.

The next two weeks should be very intersting with Riverdale, Siegel and Cookeville all playing each other.

I appreciate your polite comment. Very politically correct. I know that what I said may have seemed like trash talk in some way to some people, not directed at you or anyone else, but I was simply expressing my excitement for Riverdale and the reasons for why I am. I think this is a great district and am very excited to see how this year, as well as the years to come, will play out. It's a very competitive district and I wouldn't have it any other way. Seeing how the year has been so far, I can't wait to see the final stretch. We will get to see who really wants it and who really deserves it. Can't wait!

  18. After reading the posts, I want to make clear that I didn't mean to put blame on the ref as if he decided the game either way because, obviously, Riverdale prevailed. Seeing that it may have come out wrong, I don't want to take anything away from the Riverdale players. My only other objection is that in all that I read about the strong teams in 7AAA or in AAA in general, it seems that Riverdale is constantly over-looked. Some may not admit it but I saw some posts about the strongest young teams around and, of course, Blackman was mentioned as well as others including Warren County but barely a whisper about Riverdale. My brother plays for Murfreesboro Strikers and is a freshman at Riverdale along with almost his entire Strikers team. The ones that aren't on the team this year will be freshmen next year. That's 4 years of Strikers (who played in the State Championship game in the off-season) and 4 years of Riverdale together.....This team is going to be huge and unstoppable in the near future and it is mind-boggling that no one recognizes it. I'm very excited about Riverdale soccer and the HUGE things that will be done soon enough!!

  19. Details??

Well despite the bias of the ref on the field, it was a hard fought game. Riverdale played hard and didn't let up. Riverdale is certainly more composed and disciplined and it paid off. Would have had 4 goals but Patrick Compton's goal was taken away due to a questionable offsides call on another player.
