  1. Does anyone know who the top prospects are for this position? Why is Reynold's dragging his feet? Whoever he hires is a coach at another school, and he is leaving little to no time for that school to hire a new coach. Anyone have any insight to what is going on?

  2. Manmac, thanks for the info, but they are not my seniors. Like I said I assumed they had some good coaching before HS. I do know that some of them quit playing for a couple years when they entered HS. It's seems crazy in SC, kids from all different parts of the county go to different schools for one reason or the other. I guess, SC for Football, GP for Football, PF for baseball, Seymour is in their own little world.

You are a fan of PF if nothing more...they are your seniors. You seem to know a lot about the county for a "friend" of Guinns.

  3. 3 of them had Cannon for 1 year and he was a good coach. The guy who took over for a year after Cannon and b4 Guinn was awful! They probably had decent coaching before high school, don't know for sure but I would assume so. The biggest development in HS players is the mental side in my opinion. The already have fundamental skills for the most part when they get to HS, they have to learn how to prepare, how to work, how to build on dissappointment, and how to overcome adversity. I had a very respected HS coach tell me a while back that if a kid hadn't played open league/travel ball before he got to high school and recieved some good coaching, it usually took him at least a couple years to catch up to his peers. There is of course always exceptions.

Pretty sure that your seniors played travel ball when younger. My boys played against them. They were all on the same team with a good coach. Actually 6 of your 13 team members were on that team, along with a key player from GP and SC.

  4. I stand corrected, they have been to 2 state tourneys, finishing 2nd in '05 and final 4 in '06. PF also played in 1 other sectional which was last year under Guinn. PF has 7 seniors this year. 3 were freshman in Cannon's last year, and played very little if any. Then PF hired Bramlett for 1 year and he ran the program into the ground, and none of the players got any better. Since Guinn took over last year, those seniors along with the others have definitely gotten much better. I'm sure if you ask them they would tell you the same thing. PF was not loaded with talent when Guinn took over, quite the contrary. A few good players, and some with potential. Now you are starting to see that potential reached with many of the Seniors and Juniors. One Junior, in particular quit last year, only to come back this year, and is now 3-1 on the hill for PF. A senior golfer came out this year for the first time and is playing really well. A junior wrestler came out this year for the 1st time and is playing well as a DH/IF/backup catcher. Coach Guinn does develop talent! He always has.

So what you are saying is that the players PF has now had no real coaching before he came?

  5. I have been reading this with interest. Coach Guinn sounds like a great coach. I am interested in speaking with him about a job. I will call the High school and talk to him. Would you know any of the following:

Education- What school does he have a teaching degree from? What subjects is he able to teach?

Experience- Where did he play his college baseball?

Longevity- Why did he leave Anderson County High School if they have a great program and returning players?

Coaching experience- Did he ever coach any teams besides what his sons have played on?

I guess I will just ask him those things.

    Thanks

Did not play college baseball...pretty sure did not play high school baseball either. I think he played tennis in high school.
