  1. Just a few of my opinions (since I do not have any statistical evidence to back it up or spin it):

Just because an injury happened while a girl was wearing metal cleats does not mean the cleats are to blame. There are many other factors to consider such as field conditions, physical exhaustion or mental awareness at the time, over agressiveness, bad form when sliding, etc.

Most outfielders believe that metal gives them better traction, and less chance of getting hurt because of slipping. Metal would in this case be a positive.

Newer composite bats probably pose more of a threat to a pitcher's health than metal cleats do, yet I hear practically no call for banning them. Yes, I know that some are legislated out, and there is a testing procedure designed to regulate them. Yet none of us (myself included) really want to ban or limit them.

The game and the equipment used in it are going to change.

  2. Being up here in the Mountains, I don't get out enough (except for Conference away games and Tourneys) so I do not have the answer for this: Across the state in regualrly scheduled Conference/District games, who generally plays First? Most here (in both the HS and MS programs) schedule the Varsity Game first, then the JV.

What do you folks think are the advantages / disadvantages of each?

  3. Can the head coach of the school team coach the summer team?

Difficult for that, since there is a two week "Dead Period" smack dab in the middle of the summer. For 2012 it is June 24 through July 7. "Dead Period: No coaching, observing,or contact between coach and players in sport involved. There is no practice, no open facilities, and no weight training/conditioning" (from page 27 of the TSSAA Handbook)

This also applies to Middle School members of the TMSAA.

There is also a dead period that begins Monday of the first week of August 1 and lasts 21 consecutive days. (page 32).

Never found anything about Coaches being involved in the summer(outside of these dates) or the fall provided that the 5 player rule is not broken.

  4. Congrats on a great year (another one!) and a great four year run for Kara. I also want to commend Coach Grady on his sportsmanship and class. Good man.

Hated to hear about the probems in 'Betsy, Coach Hardin is another class act, fine man, great competitior, and great to the girls. Willing to help any girl from any team, and any coach in the area.

  5. Yes Sir< Great job, Great Talent. Hopefully KW, WANT BE THROWING UP BEHIND THE DUGOUT! Makes a big difference when you feel good/bad. Good Luck Monday @ Doak. Plus Unicoi's bats must Begin how they finished the last game. Congrats to the Ladies recieving Awards! :thumb:

The District One AA tourney was quite exciting this year. Thought there was gonna be a surprise or two but it didnt quite happen

Kudos to Unicoi and Betsy, as well as a big thumbs up to Jo Co for a nice run as well.

  6. I was told that Mahala threw a no hitter....Is this true or is my friend just forgetting a few hits? lol

and also...why does Coach Hardin always start out with a conference game?

I was always taught to never play a conference team in your season opener....but then again, I am old school.

In all fairness to Coach Hardin, it would be hard to get in top form early in the season when some of your better players are playing basketball deep into the postseason.

Plus, IMHO the sharing of players (and the ability to work and practice with them) at EHS does not appear to be handled in an equitable fashion.

I don't have a child involved, but from what I have heard and seen, BB appears to favored in this situation.

Like I said, this is my OPINION.

If I were coaching, I would really hate to start off a season and have only had all of my players, especially key players, for only a couple of weeks.

  7. Got to go with Unicoi as the favorite (again) but after that second place would be a tossup.

I honestly could not pick them right now, not that I have ever been that accurate before.

One key injury or a sudden improvement from a player or two could make a huge difference in the standings for someone.

  8. I hate to throw this out into this forum but I have heard from a couple of sources (not the most reliable kind)that girls that have signed National Letters of Intent to play on the collegiate level (NAIA or NCAA) would not be eligible to play travel ball beginning this summer. I have my doubts about it but one parent insists that this is true, that their travel coach confirmed it.

Has anyone else heard anything like this and where is it coming from?

i DECIDED TO TRY PUTTING EVERYONE IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. When anyone needs to add or correct you can copy-paste and repost. Tried formating in Excel but could not get that to post the way I wanted.

Congrats and best wishes, hope this list doubles or triples in the next few months!

  11. There have been some great games and performances and even a little controversy this week.

So let me ask everyone "WHAT PLAYERS STOOD OUT WITH THEIR ABILITY OR THE WAY THEY PLAYED TGE GAME THIS WEEK?"

Positive comments please. I think our friends in blue have heard enough ! LOL

  12. I was told that Meigs County looked great but got beat in the elimination in the Orange bracket. Eliizabethton played, and lost to Sequatchie County. They also told me that Johnson County won their bracket over a team from Chattanooga. I don't know who won the Orange Bracket (Midway or Sequatchie).

  13. I was at that playday (I assume you mean the one at Winged Deer).

I was impressed with D Boone, less so with Science Hill.

You are right about the earned runs in a way. But a run on an error still counts the same.

  14. Boone should win this district, after that I’ll pick. Volunteer, Science Hill. then DB, South, Crockett, Tn High, Central.

This race will be alot of fun, and I for one am gonna enjoy watching it!
