  1. We here at NGHS want to wish Unicoi County the best of luck!! I think that it will come down to Unicoi and Goodpasture this year. I personally feel that Goodpasture WONT be taking home another State Championship. This year it will come to East Tennessee!!! Here's hoping to be there watching that championship game.

  2. Just want to congratulate Coach J. Laurendine, the Coalfield team, and the entire school and community on a great season and on earning a trip to the 'Boro this year! This is what I had envisioned back in my coaching days at Coalfield (2000-2004) but wasn't fortunate enough to see it come to fruition. I did know then, however, that if we didn't make it, that the Yellow Jackets would have a great chance when fourth grader (at that time) Lindsey Fadnek arrived on the high school scene. And that has now come to pass most definitely!

So again, congrats on the accomplishment and good luck in the state! I remember going for the first time as an assistant coach under Darlene Headrick at Oakdale in 1998. It was an enjoyable experience that you just do not forget---so enjoy it and play hard!

Congrats also to Coach Jason Wilson and the baseball program---a program that already HAS a state championship to its credit! Bring home another one guys!

    A former Yellow Jacket,

I am the coach from NGHS and would like to add my congratulations to Coalfield. Even though it was a tough game and hard fought, the better team came out top!!! Good luck and know you have the support of the NGHS team!!! Make East Tennessee proud!!

  3. Just keep to the subject Mr. Not No Crap. I just don't like to see you comment on teams you don't have a clue about and use mis-information to try and justify your point. That's what upsets me. I don't call my wife (or even my late Mom) Ole-lady as that is disrespectful to women. If you are going to comment on women's sports, at least show them respect.

I am going to the Midway and Coalfield game tonight and I'll send them your regards.

    SadienClaysMom,

I work with some local girls to you at Unaka, Elizabethton, and Unicoi and good luck to your team. If I can ever help you, let me know.

Sorry that I stirred up a hornets nest. I honestly only wanted some information.

Thanks to those of you who did give me info. It is always good to have the insight of others.

    Diamond DW

Thank you for your support!! I wish I knew who you were so I could chat with you. Here is my email: sadie2@hotmail.com. I know that tomorrow nighgt is going to be a very tough game. First, because they are very very very good. Second, we defeated them last year in this same game and I am sure they will want sweet revenge!! I would!! lol Third, even though we are facing them with the exact same team, it is not the exact same team. Does that make sense?

  4. Best of Luck to you and your Huskies Bev. I want to see East Tennessee bring as much hardware back with them as possible. But then just getting there is an accomplishment, although some of our more jaded friends back in Middle Tennessee consider it a birthright rather than a goal! LOL

Also we wish the best in your future endeavors!

    Thank you so very much!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

  5. Okay you two obviously know a lot about the sb teams in TN. Now when I ask this please be kind!!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> I have always been told that when you have question ask the experts. Right? So here it is, remember be kind to my team lol, North Greene will be playing either Midway or Coalfield on Friday night. I know from other posts that both teams have excellent pitchers. I know first hand about the Coalfield pitcher. Do either of you have any insight that you would be willing to pass along?

  6. Wow....knowin that you let me sit beside you is a thrill in itself! I have never been to a game and got to sit beside rich people before. Do you think we would have anything to talk about? /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Just have to say that you two keep this place hopping!! I enjoy reading your comments! You two crack me up!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  7. Just heard a nasty rumor that N. Greene beat Unicoi Co. yesterday at the Morristown tourney. This is a shocker! Anyone care to tell what happened?

I am the coach of North Greene. I would be glad to tell you my prospective of what happened. My goal going into the game was to hold UC under 20 runs. lol First, I have to say that NGHS played the best they have played since the sub-state game with Coalfield last year. If I am not mistaken, both teams had 5 hits each. UC pitcher stuck out 16 batters compared to our 1 strike out. UC hit and our defense, for the first time all year, was flawless!! NGHS's hits were deep enough to score runners. It was an exciting game. Now, would it ever happen again???? Who knows, but it did happen and I am very proud!!!

  8. Most awesome post I've seen here in a while!!

    Congrats, Lady Huskies! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Hey Thanks for the remarks both good and bad. It is just a shame that someone always has to say something negative, but that is ok, too. I am proud of my girls.

  9. Erwin played some of the worst games this past weekend. Trust me!

Unicoi rarely makes errors and Kara rarely lets that many runners on base.

    oh but wait.......

    Erwin won the tournament....

Yes, you are correct, Erwin doesn't hit the ball all that well but I can assure you they will be working on tht everyday from here on out.

and as for the N. Greene game, look at the stats.....Erwin one strike out, NG had 16....

Erwin hit the ball but NG made the plays and Erwin did not.

    it happens....

Anyone who counts Unicoi out when it comes state tourney time has some serious issues!!!! They are an outstanding team. NGHS did not have any stats close to Unicoi, but we made the big plays and came with hits when we needed them. I have to give my girls some credit too. We did strike out 16 times to thier 1, but we did have some big hits. I said it in another post, my ultimate goal was to hold them to 20. Unicoi is an awesome team and I have the utmost respect for them and thier coach. I think if comes down to Unicoi and Goodpasture for state championship, it will be the best game of the entire tourney. I am looking forward to watching it. Good luck Unicoi!!!! You have all my support!!!! You can bet we will be pulling for you!!

  10. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all who came and participated! I hope everyone had a good experience as it was our first year attempting this. The plan is to make it an annual event. Lots of good games and Unicoi County was a very well-deserving champion. Hope to see you all again next year.

Great Tournament!!! Very well organized!!! Lots and lots of Kudos to those who work so hard!!!! Thanks!!! We really enjoyed ourselves!! Congratulations to Unicoi County!!!!

    NGHS Coach

  11. I have seen many times schools who get intimidated by the past success of others and it puts a little doubt into the minds of the players if they can defeat them or not. In football when you hear the name Brentwood Academy you would think of success when you hear the name Red Boiling Springs you think of losers. Same way with Goodpasture you hear their name and you think wow defendin state champions and all of the great players that they have had in the past and present. But bein from the East or West they do not hear their name as often as we do here in Mid-State. So best friend I am not just sayin remember Unicoi County. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

    Good Morning MrNoitAll!

it is the coach from North Greene. I have to tell you that you have nailed Unicoi!!!! They are awesome!!!! I have to tell you this. We faced them this weekend in a tourney at Morristown. My goal for us was to keep them under 20 runs. However, we beat them 2-1!!!!!! We played the best we have ever played. That was one of the sweetest victories I have ever had. Honestly, I don't think my team realized who they were playing. Unicoi had a few errors and we for the first time all season did not have a single error. Both teams had 5 hits. It was a very intense game.

Unicoi has the best catcher I have seen in many many years. I really enjoyed watching her play. My girls could not get over her intensity. She definitely is the "Quarterback" of that team.

  12. where did you see her play she is good.She works very hard know her for years good kid. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    The Unicoi vs Elizabethton game.

  13. I have been away for awhile came to catch up and saw this posting. It is sad that even though we are living the 21st century, all is not equal between the sexes. Yes, we have came a long way, but we still need to go further.

I have an example for you, maybe I am just off on a tangent, but this post hit home with me. I went to watch NGHS play yesterday and found out some bad news. Their coach is leaving. She went there three years ago and took on a team that had not won more than 5 games in a season in 5 or 6 years. The first year they won 15 or somewhere near that. The second year, they qualified for the state tournament and won over 20 games. This year they are well on thier way to a repeat trip to the state play-offs. I asked her why she was leaving and all she would say is, "it is time". I did not buy that answer. So, I asked around. I was told by several that she was let go because the principal, who is a man, wants a football and boys' basketball coach. The boys' programs at NGHS struggle, to say it nicely, but why take away from the girls' softball program to better the boys? She came in and worked hard and built a wonderful program. I just don't understand his reasoning.

If you ask her she will say, "I want to be closer to home and my daughter will be a freshman next year and I want to watch her play." To my knowledge, she has never said anything bad or ugly about the situation. She will take full responsibilty for leaving, but I really feel that she is leaving for other reasons.

I know the girls' parents are concern as to what will happen to the program. I AM CONCERNED!!! My concern is that this "good old boy" who is a former athlete and coach at NGHS is only concerned with the boys program. He could care less about the girls. I know for a fact, last year all she asked for was a new bat and was told, "NO". The principal even told that at the sports banquet last year. The boys baseball team got 3 new bats. She had no assistants, only a stats keeper last year. Baseball had two assistant coaches. This year after a lot pressure from parents sb got new batting helmets. For crying out loud!!! Last year they played in the state tournament in t-shirts and basketball shorts!!! I am sorry, but this is ridiculous!!! The more I think about it the madder I get. I guess now is a good time to stop!!

    Blueladysuzie,

It is me the coach at NGHS.

All I know to say is what every nice southern girl should say when she doesn't know what to say, "well.................." lol I do want to say thank you for your support. To have no one, such as a daughter or niece, involved you have been one of our biggest fans!!! Thank you. I would like to address this post.

Yes it is true that I am leaving NGHS. I leave with a very heavy heart because I have loved every single minute of my time there. However, it is time for me to go. This is not a new rumor I have heard, but it is not the only one I have heard. It is rumored I am leaving because of an arguement with a parent. I can not to my knowledge remember a single arguement with a parent. I am sure there have been a few that have wanted to tell me a thing or two and may still, but it hasn't happened. There is also the rumor it is because we lost to University School. NEVER!!! That lose was a good learning tool for us. Just remember, they are rumors.

It would be nice to be closer to home and yes it will be nice to be able to watch my daughter play VB.

My opinion, remember it is only my opinion, about Title IX is this: If a school offers a sport for the boys, then the girls should be either given a similiar sport ot the opportunity to be a member of the boys team. I have attached a web site about Title IX if you are interested. Title IX was not only established for sports but the equal and fair treatment of female athletes. I like what Cheryl Miller said,

"Without Title IX, I'd be nowhere."--Cheryl Miller, Olympic athlete

Outstanding member of 1984 gold medal women's basketball team

There are violations of Title IX every single day. There still those among us who have moved into the 21st century, who still have the misconception that a females only role in sports should be as a cheerleader. Cheerleaders are incredible athletes, but lets be honest there is stereotyping of cheerleaders as being the "rah rah girls" who are there to support the boys. Cheerleaders have my respect. The mind set of many is definitely shallow. I like a comment a good friend of mine made recently, "It amazes me how ignorant educated people can be!"

Again, thank you for your support of me and NGHS girls.

  14. Who are the top Senior pitchers from Middle and East TN? Also, if they have signed who have they signed with?

I have to say the best I have seen in this area is Whitney Gilbert from Cherokee. She has signed with University of Alabama-Huntsville. She also earned her 1000th strike-out this past weekend at the Tiny Day Tournament in Greeneville. Here is the link if you would like to see it.

  15. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY A COACH WOULD BUNT WITH 2 OUTS AND RUNNER ON 3rd. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

As a coach, I have to agree with the people who said the batters do it because they can't hit, they misread signs, and that it is pure desperation!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  16. Everyone knows catchers are the heros that never get the attention they deserve. I think we need to give the attention they derserve by posting the names of the ones that are doing their jobs not just to bragg on one . Every one loves a pat on the back. I know there are plenty of them. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    Danie Sanders [ Station Camp]

    Emlie Nichols [ White House]

    Erica Duke [ UTM ]

Holy Cow!!! Have you all seen the catcher from Unicoi County?????? She is unbelievable!!!

  17. Thank so very much for the information about both teams. I am at North Greene. Honestly, I just want to try to keep Unicoi from scoring 20 on us. I know they are loaded. THey always are. That program is very strong and gets better every year.

  18. We are playing in the Morristown West Tourney in two weeks. We drew Unicoi County and Grainger County. I certainly would appreciate any info good or bad. I know that Unicoi is a powerhouse, but I still would appreciate anything.

  19. Yes great job girls! There has been some trying times out of the gate so far but i hope the team over comes them. The record should be no loses to this point the team gave two games away and if North Greene wants a repeat they must cut down on errors and get some consistant hitting from some of the upper classman so work hard and we will see how it goes... Good Luck Lady Huskies /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

Thank you both for your nice comments.

  20. Heather Brown is a great Freshman catcher for Lebanon! Her offense and defense is remarkable for someone her age.

I have to put Megan Taylor from NGHS on this list. I know I know, how can you put a player from NGHS on there? However, no matter which school she played for, she would be an outstanding freshman. Her current batting average is .602. In her first varsity game, she went 3 for 4 with a solo homerun, a triple, and a single. In one of last weeks games she was 4 for 4 with 2 triples, a double, and a single. Defensively, she has not committed any errors and has throw out several runners going from 3rd home from left field. No matter where this girl plays on the field she is tough.

I have said this before, those girls from Coalfield are incredible!!!!
