  1. First of all, let me say I am NOT a fan of Ricky Bowers.  Far from it.  But I believe in treating everybody fairly..

You have no idea what you are talking about as do most of your ilk.  Everything you stated as if it were fact is conjecture on your part.  You obviously have not watched any of the videos.  At this point, it serves no purpose to try to enlighten you.  You simply need to crawl back under that rock from whence you came.

easy Francis......I agree with everyone else that the video's only show the tail end of the confrontation.

I do know the facts tho.

  2. This thread and related others have attracted a perhaps unprecedented number of "haters" to the D2 site.  Continuing to respond to them is futile.  They are what they are and shall remain - prejudiced, ignorant and uninformed.  Just ignore them.

i think the issue here is what it says to the rest of the state. He and his assistant did f bomb and bump the ref's. He was rightfully tossed from the game with .02 left. (even tho they decided to run that off, given the situation) rather than take responsibility for his actions (and possibly give that lesson for his team/school) he got the big bad lawyers to threaten an organization that doesn't have the financial backing to fight it. So they just gave in.

It just comes across as arrogant in a way that " I can do whatever I want and you can't do anything about it because I've got the money and the power"

BTW, If I were an official, I would refuse to ref any of his games in the future.

but that's why the "haters" are showing up

  3. Just a few points - the official saying Bowers used profanity - really doesn't confirm it.  The players around him that I talked to said he did not.  You are right - the Fox 17 video does not capture the entire incident.  The players I talked to were around Bowers on the sideline when the late hit occurred and this was not on the Fox 17 video.  The Fox 17 video is shot after the incident is over, the players separated, and the officials had ended the game.  The players are actually going through the line in the background shaking hands, everything had calmed down, when the official ejected Bowers.

so the official just decided to "go mental" and throw the coach out as he was being invited over for thanksgiving dinner? No provocation whatsoever?

  4. You something for thought is off base.  No one on the field confirms that Coach Bowers used profanity.  The Fox 17 film caught the incident after the game had been declared officially over and  it is easy to review and pretty clear what happened.

the officials confirmed that he used profanity, as did his assistant. the fox video did not have the entire altercation, just the tail end of it. either way, the game was over and the coaches' should have been getting their players off the field rather than bumping and f bombing the ref's. jmo

  5. Actually MUS could not reschedule OB. Per the MUS coach "OB wanted to go a different direction". They did pick up Lafayette County, MS (4A Champion this year) and re-upped with South Panola. I don't remember what he said about White Station but he did say that we agreed to a home and home with Memphis Central. One will be played at Crump Stadium. He also said that the schedule is not finalized so more to come.

Looks like MUS will play OB and SP next year. Lafayette not on the schedule but an interesting DII AA game will be the opener with Ensworth. Not sure where that game is to be played tho.

Somebody call. I've got a fairly reliable source saying South Panola has their first 4 weeks open at this point. Supposedly none of the 4 out of district games are renewing, unfortunately...at least not at this point. I say unfortunate b/c MUS was a great two game set.

    http://www.southpanola.k12.ms.us/sphs/default.htm

This year they're pretty unreal but they lose a good bit...not a bad year to get SP next year.

Heard MUS has renewed a 2 yr home and home with S. Panola. Must still be afraid of those scary breezes, going to play it safe with the #1 team in the nation.

  7. OK KublahKD you have been on here for a while. Why would you think?? Alcoa's budget makes it so that we can't really afford to play long away games. This bowl game will bring in extra money for both Alcoa and Maryville. We don't have the money privates have. The only reason we played in Kentucky the last two years is we couldn't find know body to play us in Tn. Bell County was only 2 hours away ( short trip ). I personally would love to see a home and home series but it is what it is. I can't speak for Maryville but that Alcoa's situation.

Trying to understand. The teams can't afford to travel 2 1/2 to 3 hours to play the Nashville teams or Brynes. Or 5 hours or so to play the Memphis teams but can pay said teams $3,500.00 to play them?

  8. I would suggest that Alcoa and Maryville schedule Byrnes next year. I'm sure they are looking for a game or two and it would be a program that would provide respect to their scheduling that they so desperately crave. It is the same distance that Olive Branch and BA travel. If Olive Branch can do it, so could these more successful programs. It would equal to the statewide interest as the SP/MUS games of the past 2 years.

  9. MBA, BGA, CBHS, ENS

CBHS and EHS are playing each other in sub state. One will not advance.

    However, I will go with:

    CBHS, MUS, BA, MBA

If so, would be good rivalry games in first games of the semi finals with CBHS playing MUS and BA playing MBA.

  10. It's worth knowing that MUS and WS scrimmaged last year with MUS winning 21-7. WS has alot but not all of the same cast and characters this year. Judging from their CBHS performance, I'd say WS is a notch below what they were last year. MUS on the other hand is agruably a notch better this year.

    Interesting...

Personally, I think that MUS is only 1/2 notch better (how's that for splitting hairs, huh :thumb: ). Last year's receivers were more more sure-handed, and taller. This year's bunch is not as consistent or reliable, with the lone exception being Hank Hill.... Man, that kid's a 'baller! That kid puts me in mind of New England Patriots' Ace, Wes Welker....seriously!

    -------------------------------------------------

-- What other top teams did MUS scrimmage, THIS year?

    -- What were the scores?

They scrimmaged Whitehaven with the 20 play then swap it out version and had 4 scores to one. However the quarterback and linebacker for Whitehaven did not play. However, McBride only played the first score.

They scrimmaged Ridgeway in a more traditional scrimmage and had over 50 points to 0. Don't think McBride played in much of that scrimmage. However, they have not had McBride for the first 5 games and now have them. He may be that other 1/2 notch, TraderB.

  11. Greetings from the Haven

    * WSHS and MUS--- I want 2 pick WS in the upset but I just can't do it... MUS 31-28

    * I can't comment on Arlington and Bolton

    * I'll go with the Chiefs just because... I honestly think this will be a Friday of upsets, thus the reason I really want to say WS will be MUS... Stay tuned! Some picks may change Wednesday...

    * Cordova will beat Millington 24-10... Millington seems like they can't beat a good team... I'm guessing Cordova's a good team.

    * I'll ride with East and Jaszy Parker over Melrose by the slimmest of margins 24-22

    Blackhaven:

On item no. 2 ... You can comment on Arlington/Bolton game if you wish. You can get on this site and view their schedule and view the schedule of their opponents. You can make an educated guess from there. I mean ... that's what I've done because I haven't seen them play either. I have read articles from the CA and stuff like that ... but you can do a little research and give an educated guess. It's not that hard to do.

    Thanks for your participation.

    'Repect da Haven!'

    Greetings from the Haven

I'm goin out on a limb!!! I'm calling 4 the upset WSHS defeats MUS 32-27!!!

I got'cha kwc, I'll pick Arlington off of GP

I'll stay with the other picks I had from earlier in the week...

As far as WSHS vs. MUS, I just think Julian Burton is gonna pull out a Tyrone Protho type of game tonight!!! If "Red" Hayes can manage 1 or less Turnovers I believe MUS may receive their first L of the Season...

Whitehaven will thrash Central tonight BTW... Just throwing that out there LOL!

    Respect Da Haven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Haven,

Just curious, if the most anyone hung on MUS was 22 last year and the most 19 so far this year, why do you think WS will hang 32 on them? Do you think they (WS) are more powerful than USP and OB? Or has MUS's defense suddenly lost all effectiveness?

  12. TraderB, and all, remember if you don't get to the MUS-Millington game on Fri. night, you can come out on Sat. night and see Melrose-CBHS. That game being played @7:30 @ MUS. Proceeds benefit Bridges. Good high school football all weekend long.

BTW, Whitehaven did scrimmage MUS with MUS scoring 4 TD's to 1 with the first teams. It was the 10 play controlled version and Whitehaven did not play Flenoral or the linebacker, Bohannon (sp?) Whitehaven looks to have a very solid club.

  13. What if a team has all their scrimmages cancelled because of heat index? Do they play their first game without scrimmaging before that?

Correct.......and they will not play that game if the HI is 104 or higher.

  14. That was my initial thought as well. If there's a scrimmage on 7/31, when is the first day of practice?

First day of practice is one week from this Mon. (July 27th) Also playing into the mix is a new heat index policy. Games/practices/scrimmages cannot be held if heat index is 104 or higher. Scrimmages will probably be scheduled later in the day than in the past. Could prove complicated for practices during hot weeks. Imagine teams will schedule evening practices instead of after school during weeks where higher heat index is expected.

  15. Per TSSAA, MUS has 828 students. Christian Brothers has 1,778

Remember TSSAA doubles the school population for ranking purposes. CBHS has 220 or so per grade and MUS has 115 or so per grade. Both are all boys. (unlike ECS)

  16. Ah that's great for him! That won't be much of a change in system for him, so that will be beneficial. Just curious, what is his 40 time? Seeing as Pat White, a small fast QB, excelled at West Virginia and is now playing for my Dolphins, I hope and think Brunetti does just as well.

  17. And the mystique of making the playoffs just got tossed out the window. Sad.

I disagree. The teams will be playing the regular season for seeding. (as they have done in the past) There is a big incentive to play your way into the top two positions for the bye, yet come that first round the #8 seed in the east/middle will have a shot at playing their way back into the hunt by defeating the #3 seed in the east/middle. I think it will add some excitement to the end of the season for all fans and teams.
