  1. District 9 A-AA will be a great district again. CPA and MLK made the state tourney in A-AA and basically return their entire team, each losing one key player. Hume-Fogg pretty much was all underclassmen. Not sure about Lipscomb. Should be a heck of a battle to see which 2 of the 4 makes it out to regions. We are actually considering making the District semi-final a home and home aggregate.

In District 10, which has more teams than I can count I think that White House will be strong. They were a young team and played a very challenging schedule in 2010. As to the dozen or so other teams I relly don't know.

In Region 6- I also am aware that Columbia Academy is returning most of their best guys. Fairview who won region 6 is graduating a ton of good players, not sure about Page but any school located in Williamson County is going to be strong.

In The Metro AAA league (as usual) it will be balanced and competitive and you never know who will win it. Overton was the strongest but Hunters Lane, Glencliff and Antioch have lots of good young players. Not sure if any of those teams can get by the AAA teams in nashville's suburbs but there should be some exciting games in that district.

SHOULD BE FUN IN MIDDLE TENN.

  2. Severino (HF) actually has 17 goals, Vogel who is Sophmore has 11.

Thus, their list is not most accurate. That being said. Lots of times people do not call in their results. I can think of the specific game where I know the other coach did not call in the score.

  3. Wow that sounded like a rough game. In 2007 we played a Region semi-match at Cheatham. My assistant coach who is a policeman in Nashville helped the official get to his car and threatened to arrest some parents who were harassing him. No problem from the coach or Cheatham players though.

I don't know how anyone could be angry at Creek Wood with such a fantastic field.

On a serious note I don't think it would be fair to kill the whole program for the actions of a few people.

  4. I will give you 2 from teams in my district

1- Simon Johnson (MLK) plays sweeper but is an exceptional forward

2- David Taffe (CPA) plays attacking mid.

We have several good Juniors but I don't like to be a braggar.

  5. Fairview is a very strong team. They have a great group of Seniors who have been starting for some time. Their keeper made a fantastic save on a Pk with about 5 min. left to preserve the win for them.

They should be able to make a nice run in the playoffs but I am sure Spring Hill and Columbia A. will give them a challenge.

I still think the top teams right now are out east and should remain so in the next poll.

  6. Thank you fevercoach for defending Hume-Fogg. I do disagree with the comment about our White House loss being suspect. White House made the final 16 last year and it was our 2nd game of the season. I think they will probably win their district.

I will gladly give you a report on Fairview after the game. you can email me at david.allen@mnps.org

Good luck to all teams this year.

I am actually overjoyed to see so much discussion on A-AA.

  7. Ranking thoughts.

Thank you Coniglio and fevercoach for recognizing Hume-Fogg. We haven't played as difficult a schedule as teams such as Alcoa but that is mainly due to the fact that we have 3 new programs added to our district that we need to play. We hope to get another chance to take on Alcoa in the state tournament but first things first.

While I have thought that the West has in the past had too many highly ranked teams I think that as they make up 1/4 of the regions they should have a couple of teams in the poll.

Kingsbury is great but USJ and Westview were pretty good in the past as well.

Some great debates and soccer talk.

  8. Please please PLEASE, whoever is making these rankings, would you consider the strength of schedule when making the rankings.

They clearly did consider "the strength of schedule" by appointing a team that is 3-1-1 as number 1. Also, CPA does not have many wins but have played a very tough schedule and is justly rated very high. CPA was rated higher than Fairview and Hume-Fogg who have more wins.

Not sure what your specific complaint is. I think the ratings are pretty fair.

  9. Hello. HF in Nashville has an open spot in their Varsity schedule. We are looking to play someone in the Nashville area (home or away) on either

    1) Monday Apr. 5

    2) Saturday Apr. 10

    3) Monday Apr. 12

We can probably travel a bit further on the Sat. perhaps about an hour or so from the city.

If interested you can contact me at david.allen@mnps.org

    THANKS

  10. At this point at White House we don't have try outs. Any one who can make it thru these 5 weeks of conditioning deserves to be on a high school team. If the numbers are too great, the running gets tougher. We may never make a state tournament again, but a certain standard of play (not skill) is what should always be represented at our school. One day we may have the skill to match with the attitude, but for now we train to make boys into men. I have seen so many average players become great young men because they trained to be the best they culd be; even if they weren't very good players, they were winners. Because of the fine job many in White House have done to build a division III travel club, we may see the need for try outs/cuts one day. For now, we take what we have and mold them into what the program expects. Those who stay will be Champions. Good luck to all this Spring.

Sometimes I wish we had a program that everyone who worked hard deserves to be at least on the JV team. Unfortunately, we only have a certain number of uniforms. I always wish that there will be exactly the number show up for the number of uniforms but it rarely works out that way.

  11. We will have several activities to sort the team. There will be some running drills that Akula mentioned. Also, many small sided games. I will try to keep all of the results of the small sided games, rotate players into many different groups and keep each players individulal won-loss record. Also goals and keep track of any errors and great individual plays. (keep each players' and try and spot trends.

The biggest hurdles to tryouts remain that Hume Fogg has several good players in Winter sports and also the unfortunate problem of more players coming out than there are spots. Especially the guys who attend the off-season conditioning daily but who won't make it.

This season I am going to use the first 2 days to determine the varsity. Use Wed. as a varsity only practice then on Thursday and Friday focus on those who are interested in the JV.

Big G mentioned juggling number. I like that may include it. I think the guys like having hard data, then again other things are not possible to measure (heart).

The NSCAA has a tactical skills test online (they can also be printed out) that isn't bad if a coach wants to use that, perhaps on a day where the weather is bad and you have no gym.

  12. seriously i totally agree. Alot of players were snubbed. I agree Dodson should be on 2nd team and Mike should atleast have made 3rd squad. Another point I have is that players from small divisions just have good stats because they are in a weak division.Alot of players from those minor divisions dont deserved to be commended on the same level as the hendersonville, brentwood, ryan, pope, centennial, ravenwood, and many other top schools. Some players from small divisions do deserve it though.

Well there are only 5 out of 33 that are in the A-AA classification, none in the first team. I really don't think that A-AA should get any less representation.

  13. Also leaving A-AA from middle Tennessee are

Ezell Harding (has been down recently but made the state tourney in 03)

DCA great team in the 1990s, made several state runs. Has several good young players.

Portland has been a big rival with White House/ Station Camp. I believe that they are going to AAA.

In District 9 we are losing FRA, DCA and Ezell. We are gaining a few Nashville Public Schools - Stratford, Maplewood, Whites Creek. Those schools have struggled to field teams year in year out.

I think someone posted that USJ is leaving thus opening up a spot in the state tourney from a team from the west.
