  1. I believe that #23 started last year, and 20 and 24 played regularly.  I did not say they were a middle of the road team.  I was just saying that the teams 2-7 are about equal.  It is easier for them to beat each other than for one of them to beat Clay Co.  District 6A has become a tough district, and the teams that survive it are quality teams as they have had success at the state level for the last few years.  And I agree with you that Clay is beatable, but no one has been able to that this season.

  2. Found this on rule changes for this year.

9-9-1: A player shall not be the first to touch the ball after it has been in team control in the frontcourt, if he/she or a teammate last touched or was touched by the ball in the frontcourt before it went to the backcourt. EXCEPTION: Any player located in the backcourt may recover a ball deflected from the frontcourt by the defense.

Rationale: To ensure that a team is not unfairly disadvantaged on a deflected pass.

  3. Top bracket seems to be the toughest with only 11 loses against the 33 in the bottom half.  All teams have earned the right to be in the state as they came through the system setup by the TSSAA.  Everyone should be congratulating the young ladies that have earned the right to be there and not running teams or players down.

The one truth is that no matter what way would be used to determine the draw everybody is not going to be happy.  Time to lace up the shoes and play.  May the best team win.

  4. Completely agree of the sectional games PC at VB and GCA at hampton has the most upset potentional in my eyes. I like Hampton's chances because this same GCA team struggled with Van Buren last year. A team in VB that hasn't got within 25 points of beating Clay in the last 4 games.

In a single game like the substate any thing can happen,  foul problems, poor shooting, someone gets hot, bad call(s) at the right time, match up problems just to mention a few.  The better team does not always win, just the one that scores the most on that night.  If they play ten games, it could be the only one that they win, but with all of that said all of that does not matter.  It just who wins tomorrow night.  All 16 have a change of winning at this stage of the season.  I would think that in most places that the home team has a big advantage.

  5. your right. I doubt they would.  What I do not like to see is a team intentionally trying to hold the ball.  In college, you can run the shot clock all the way down and still implement a slow strategy but holding on to the ball for 2 to 3 minutes a quarter is something I think TSSAA should look at.  I realize it does not happen that often and most times, a team is not good enough to hold on to the ball that long without turning it over.  What is it teaching your kids about basketball if you intentionally hold the ball and make it a 16-12 type of game?

How many games in the last two years have you seen played like this?  I haven't seen one in my area in the last 10 - 15 years.  A big expense and trouble for schools for something that doesn't happen very often.  It is just my belief that the high school game does not need to be like the AAU games.

  6. Middleton is the best team in the state in Class A.   This has been a great tournament to watch.  There have been several great games to watch.  Clarkrange having to play three games in three days played heavy on them.  This is not meant to be an excuse because you have to beat everyone to be the champions and this did not happen.

  7. I think some of you are overstating how good 7A is...in the 2nd quarter Stown goes 2-13 from the field, they go from nearly the 6 min mark of the second qtr until nearly the 5 min mark of the third without scoring and they only found themselves down 9...it wasnt so much about defense as it was the shots werent falling...one thing for certain-if (big word, aint it lol) the lady eagles shoot 50% during the dry spell, they win the game in regulation

LC could say the same about their game with Stown. If they had just hit one more FT in the 4th Stown would not have been playing Clay Co. Whether it is the defense or your team just shooting poorly that is the way it was, no buts/ifs. Clay Co moves on and Stown goes home.

  8. TC has never beaten JC when it counted in basketball and if they play eachother in the region they will not beat them at home. I think Clarkrange, JC and Clay all win with the private school winning as well. Good luck to all the 7A teams.

How many times have they played when it counted?

  9. Swaney I know Friendship and Watertown have pretty good teams and will probably win at home and the other two might travel and win but not likely. I know time changes a lot but JC defeated Gordonsville by 30 and Trousdale by double digits. Clay split with Friendship and I know football player and such was a factor but with the inconsistancy all these teams have shown this season the team that shows up will win. JC is now playing like they did early season and some of the others are better too. I remember a few years ago the sane senario and JC beat friendship in region when noone thought they could be beat. 7A is the under dog but thats why we play the games.

Didn't TC be JC in the rematch at JC? I would think that FC and Gordonsville would be much improved over their early season games with the football players getting a season of experience. I would think the top 3 from district 7 will have to play well to win.

Can Clarkrange host 1st round of region?

  10. Lake Co has two athletes that have a lot of the same athletic ability as Jim Brown in T.T. Flowers and Carnation Hart so I like the players we have on our bus also.

If I were in LC's and JC's shoes, I would be worried about Loretta and N. Greene not the other one. Loretta and NG will have a lot to say about who plays who in the semifinals. One paper this could be one of the best A State Tournament in years. Several teams capable of winning it. Lot of things can happen in a one game situation. Someone is going have to put 3 good games together to win and have a little luck on the way, too.

Who could be this year's darkhorse?

  11. It would be great if all tournament selection did include good defensive play, but in today's game it is usually about the points you score. Most tournaments have a difficult time putting 5 from any team on the all tournament team.

#5 truly had an all tournament tournament.

I agree with 07. JC's tough schedule did a better job of preparing them for games like last night than RBS's schedule did them. I thought that they got down and even seemed to tire some as the game move along. One thing that people overlook is that of game condition. When you are in several tough games not only do you become mentally tougher but physically tougher, too.

Good luck to both teams in the substate and hopefully the state.

  12. JC will have everyone back which is good and C'range is always good, and RBS is a tough tourney opponet, but the way Clay is playing I give them the edge to play JC in district and region final. Opinions are like elbows everyone has them and anyone can get upset.

JC and Range in D7A finals. Range and RBS in Reg semi and JC and CC in other semi.

  13. Ridiculous?? Lets take a look at the past winners for Miss Basketball in Single A, since 1985.

    West Tennessee Winners: 12

    Middle Tennessee Winners: 10

    East Tenn Winners: 3

    Still think my statement is ridiculous? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

In looking at the teams playing for the Class A championship since 1976, East TN has only had 7 of the 64 finalists. 3 champs and 4 runnerups. Could this say something about bb in that area of the state?
