  1. Good post *fpjunkie. All you can ask of a player to listen to their coach who is trying to help them & their team. Most coaches will understand if they have a private instructor & listen to them, but players have to be flexible & coachable to whoever their coach is & respect his advice & opinion.

There are so many coaches out there in it for the "Love of the game", no money, no glory. And yes, STD is one of the top coaches in the Mid-State area. HE does a great job with his girls & turns out year-in & year-out one of the strongest programs in the state.

  2. Best wishes to Jerry M. One of the great basketball minds in Middle Tennessee. This guy preaches what he lives, he lives basketball. Most people don't know the heart that he & his dad have for the game OR for people. They don't go looking for press clippings, all they want to do is help someone be the best that they can be. If they will work with him & support him in all his motives, they will be better people & players.

MBA, sit back & listen. You have had great players & coaches in the past. Probably will in the future, but take a lesson from one of your former coaches, help your students to be the best that they can be, make them tuffer in the classroom, in the lab, on the court or where ever they may be. You just lost one of the best teachers. JM knows what it's like to be a student/athlete & what it takes to succeed. He also knows how when you make mistakes how to stand on your own two feet. Too many administrators are being tooooo soft on it's students in public & private schools. Take a breath & take a look.

Good Luck to Jerry & best wishes! :D

  4. This thread started out how good will Brentwood be. It can be as good as the players want it to be, by working hard & doing what their new coach wants them to do. This will be the 3rd coach in 3 years, but it is a program full of tradition & experience & new talent that will be in the hunt in a very strong District with Overton (Sara H), Franklin (Lauren W) & Hickman Co will be a force to reckon with. Hilsboro will be much improved, but just to get out of the District will be no treat.

How good will Allison be? You can judge by the record, but there are many players with her that will WIN in the end. There are also other pitchers that will play more of a factor this year, while last year, the experience just wasn't there to help her out, even playing the last 4 weeks hurt.

I'm so proud of ALL Allison has done. She plays when she's hurt, sick. She's a gamer who loves when the ump says "play ball". She's been part of a pretty good travel team, been a big part of a team that has finished in the Top 10, 5 times at National tournaments. Has she had help, yes, has she done it by her self, no. Is she a leader, yes.

It's funny what Ezellsoftball04 says about batters facing her. I have seen for years coaches yelling at players telling them what is coming on the next pitch & then they swing and walk back to the duggout, frustrated. No, she is not going to blow it by you, BUT, she does very well, what she does. She has an excellent pitching coach & she can go as far as she wants to go. Not many players would allow me to coach her the way I am able to, but not many players are like Allie- Go get them girl, I'm proud of the way you have handled this thread & just go play softball & have fun doing it. GO BHS!!! ;)

  5. cw160: Not to step on toes, but this thread and the first post are the major problem with coaching in high schools today. A coach made a decision - and parents don't like it. So the parents now are going to sabotage the coach because they don't have the faith that the coach is doing the right thing for the team."

Not stepping on any toes either. I don't have connection to EH, just making observation from comments on thread. I'm sure the parents are supporting actions of this coach or you would be hearing more from it. You make some good suggestions, just not sure if any other stones were being thrown

  6. There have been alot of comments about coaching on other boards & why we have them. One of the things that has come out is if you have a coach, you need to accept & expect that he does things for the right reasons. I'm sure Coach B had his reasons & who knows what expectations he has from these young men.

Do we know if he promised them any playing time. Do we know if we start them in their 1st game back or how much they would play.

Do we know if they came to him or him to them & asked them to play (doesn't really matter) I'm sure he cares about HIS team & HIS players. That's why they call him "COACH".

If this was Lighthouse Christian or Jo Byrns, etc, probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

Maybe he does not play the players the 1st game or maybe plays them in abbrev. roles. He's the coach, period...

If the other players were asked the question & they said ok, what else could he do? Good Luck to all schools & may the best team WIN!

  7. I too agree that teachers do not make much money. And there is a difference if you live in urban or rural areas. My wife, also is teacher. But I agree with Deltavian about State Employees. You mentioned HS or TDOT employees, but coming out of college, if you work for state, you would begin around 1800-2000 per month. And what Deltavian was saying, without summers off or xmas & spring breaks. Teachers can make more money during that time & they if they did work then, would make a bunch more than state employees. Neither one of them make much money, and those things aren't going to change. Sometimes because of the economy, you have to work where you can & also, you just need to enjoy what you are doing.

  8. The TSSAA would have to approve playing any team outside of the TSSAA organization. If they are in another state or association, the TSSAA could forbid schools from playing each other, other than those in that assn. This is the biggest problem with having 2 associations. The travel & scheduling problems would be enormous as the Division 2 schools are finding right now.

The lawsuit in my mind has been continued because the lawyers keep it going. It far more than $3000 & the lawyer fees may be what keeps this thing going.

I firmly believe that a compromise has already or will be worked out between the TSSAA & BA as far as the recruiting rule is concerned. I imagine it is 95% complete, they just have to get all this behind them. I also believe a plan will be presented to all the schools that will be voted on & will change the way the organization is now. Look for details in the next coming months. It's not going to happen overnight.

  9. Gomab2: The difference here is Willis McGahee of Miami did not take out a loan for his insurance policy. THE NCAA backed the loan like they have several other future stars. He didn't have to pay anything on it, will come out of future earnings.

LJ did not do the same. They(Ohio State High School Assn) is looking into whether his amateur status has been violated. If they declare him ineligible, he would then not be able to play hs or college ball until he had that overturned. Sure he's going Pro, but he should either wait till then or go ahead & finish the NBA this year. If he hurrys up, he probably would be able to play in the NBA all-star game.

  10. Why Coach?

1 Have you ever seen a player(sub) catch a fly ball in the outfield who was so scared, hoping that they wouldn't hit the ball to them & they wet their pants when the ball came their way? And catch it :(

2 Have you had a player when you asked them if they wanted to bat & said no after seeing the pitcher. They get up to the plate, the ball somehow hits the bat & they get on base :)

3 Have you played in a national championship game only to lose the game & go tell the players that they are winners :)

4 Have you had a parent come up to you and ask why you didn't start their 9 year old, might cost them a chance for a college scholarship

    :)

    Why coach?? :):):o

  11. Coach, best of luck to you. Ryan should go as far as BA did last year, let by Katherine, Amber & Mandy. Should be a great year. Also coach, again, congratulations on your team last summer. Tennessee did well in Nationals, especially from the Nashville-Middle Tennessee area & you have been a big part of that for several years.

  12. You all think it's funny when we start running a couple miles before practice this weekend. Also, when those weights start getting heavy in the weight room, you'll really be thinking about cupcakes- Maybe we will throw in those old killer drills. BIRTHDAY'S OVER!! Keep up the good work-ha!ha!

  13. This team was started out of the Crieve Hall league, Don Lockridge coached them to the 18-U ASA Nationals a couple of years ago, everyone of them signed to play college, several of them at a high level. Also, The Nashville Eagles won the 16-U NSA World Series (Eastern) in Chattanooga this past summer. I don't think in the Nashville area, there has been a team that has played for so long.

  14. There have been many high school players play TSSAA sports. There have been numerous play & do REALLY WELL. The Eight Grade is the 1st grade someone is eligible to play TSSAA sports, if the school has the 8th grade on it's campus. It starts the process for high school, can not repeat 8th grade & play again or lose 1 year of eligibility later on. For rules & regulations, see TSSAA.org

  15. EzellSoftball04: That sounds like a team you could take & win some games in the summer. Should would love to have that pitching staff & see what happens. Another player that you seemed to leave off was Nat Brock (Ezell Harding). She hold several TSSAA State Tourney Records & would also be a force to deal with, swapping her out with Brittany H at 1st base / pitching would be awesome.

Hendersonville has some good talent back like Cristin White & Heather Tucker. Brentwood Academy has the Little girl's & Lundy. F Ryan has some good talent with Amber & Katherine & Mandy. You could clean up some with the talent in Middle Tenn & throw some in from the West & East.

  16. I think the teams mentioned are all pretty good. There are alot of good teams & good players in Tennessee. I think we should keep building up the image of Tennessee players & teams cause they work hard for all they get. BUT, I DO NOT think we should be putting players down on this board. This forum should not be used to bash other players, they do have feelings, they have a brother/sister, mom/dad just like we do.

SLR52 mentions some good points about ASA vs NSA. Sometimes its really hard to judge overall because the location of the tournament or the date of the tournament has alot to do with who goes there. We have played them both several times & they all have good teams that compete for national titles.

PS> BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO TIFF B. Good Luck at GT.
