  1. DAD1, you hit the nail on the head... I don't know anything about football since I messed up the date of Brentwood's state championship... I said 2003 since the seniors of that football team were the Class of 2003, but you are correct, the actual championship game was played in 2002. I am so sorry. Also... even though I messed up what position Steckel played, I think you still helped prove my point. He was a defensive player until it was time to score touchdowns and then he was all of a sudden an offensive player... I know Crawford is a very good football coach, and he is capable of making his players improve. I never said otherwise. His problem is/was not his ability to coach, it was/is his ability to put the best players on the field no matter what. No one on this board can prove otherwise.

No....that proves people that know football know there is a short yardage offense. If you will check the stats you will find Steckel scored very few touchdowns and was there to block.....or maybe through back to the QB to pull a game out at the last minute. Here again....quit listening to "mom and dad" in the stands.

  2. To MyHumbleOpinion.......

Sorry young man but someone with so little knowledge...especially about football...really should not post on public boards when even that knowledge was learned from parents in the stands. Brentwood won the championship in 2002 not 2003. Luke Steckel was a linebacker and came in as an extra back in short yardage....not a WR. I could go on but anyone that would remotely even hint Ron Crawford is anything other than one of the top high school coaches in the state needs to take up watching soccer!

  3. Also, coaches oftentimes interview with the sole intention of strengthening their hand at their current position. In the previous coaching search, one outstanding candidate had all the credentials the committee wanted- but did not have a Tennessee teaching certificate and thus could not be hired. WillCo has strict criteria for being a head coach; possibly the "first" candidate could not/would not fulfill the requirements.

All that being said, it is unimportant at this point: The Bruins have their new leader who is excited about the opportunity, tradition, and challenge.

DAD1, the only thing worries me is that "WingT" comment- what in the name of "Air Whittemore" is going on????? Do we need to get back involved again????

FTT2......been a while since the Bruins looked to the heavans much for yardage!

  4. Actually that is still debatable. If Alabama's team from this year played the Colts from this year, they would get demolished. Does that mean that Jim Caldwell is a better coach than Nick Saban? Absolutely not. You can't compare coaches based on the score of a game if the coaches are dealing with two very different talent levels of players. Now I doubt the talent difference between Macon and TC equals the talent difference between an NCAA team and an NFL team; but you get the picture.

I'm not so sure the Colt's could have scored on Alabama this year. :)

  5. I know everyone is anxiously waiting to know who the new Head Football Coach will be at Brentwood; but interviews are still in process (starting last Sunday Feb. 19th) and will be completed with the first round tomorrow Sunday Feb. 26th. The people making the decision hopes to have a coach named by the first week of March.

I want to say welcome back to WCS Coach Donnie Webb who recently was named the Head Coach at Franklin.

Spring practice is only 8 weeks away for some of our schools, next year looks like a exciting time for Williamson County football with hopes of 1 or possibly 4 making it to the championship game in Cookeville. Fairview should make a strong run at 3A after losing in the quarterfinals last year; Page has a solid group coming back and are working hard in the off season looking to get past the 2nd round this year; Centennial is a strong contender for the 5A also looking to get past the 2nd round this year; Indy will build on a the district championship from last year; Ravenwood is working hard and having a coaching staff in place in the off season is always better for the kids; Summit, still without seniors, will be looking for the first win but hard work in the weight room will make that happen this year; and then who ever gets the Brentwood job will take over a team with 43 seniors who made it to the quarterfinals last year.

Thanks to all the great parents and fans that support our schools!!!!!

    jackd

Come on Jack.... quit with the BS and give us some info.....just kidding. I'm sure the next Brentwood coach

will continue the standard the last 2 have set.

  6. From earlier posts I thought you were possibly retard (uncommon spellin' for 'retired,' but common for Southern-speak; nevermind, you probably wouldn't understand anyway), but now I know you're not. You're a psycho-logist. Ever used this one on a patient: 'I'm schizophrenic and so am I?'

'Player Father,' huh? Isn't that supposed to be 'Player'S Father?' Nice! You're right, though, some people never do get beyond what they are OR were...:P

Yep...you have it all figured out.

  7. That coach was not "failed". He took CPA just as far as Maddux has. Think before you speak.

Failed as in the guy needs to find another outlet for his anger. I don't know, nor care, about his history but he needs to come down off his arrogant perch.

  8. A very high order level of thinking for a group of parents, let alone a group of kids, without a coach’s direction or influence. And if true, then parent comments would be strictly related to being a parent initiative, not being invited or influenced by a coach or a “booster.â€

It is unfortunate there are no parents with kids going to CPA that has the intelligence to think at the high level as can this failed coach.

  9. You sound like a liberal Democrat, blaming the system for exploiting people when in fact we live in a free country where these kids and parents have a right to make decisions in their life, whether you agree with it or not. These kids are not being drugged, tied up, and held in prison at these schools. That is real exploitation. You may not like the system, but who are you to dictate to a family what they should or should not do with their children? Don't participate in the perceived exploitation with your family, but it is none of your business what other families and their kids want to do.

    What he said........

  10.

So if that's the reason, why are they going to CPA? Unless they want to learn to be whining, classless, chest bumping punks like Maddux. Oh, wait. Yes, that does describe them pretty well. The only thing he does well is illegally recruit - oh, and get jobs for parents of great players. Coach well? No way. Look at the talent he has "developed" (wink, wink) over the years. Mason, Miller, Anderson, Bradshaw, Lindsey, Allsmiller, and now Wharton - and the grand total number of championships? Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. He can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. His "homegrown superior talent" (wink, wink) makes him look much, much better than he is.

    My humble opinion.

You can come down on the coach all you want but passing that description on to the kids is unacceptable, low class, and I suggest the mods ban you. You Sir are very lucky an old crotchity grandpa does not know your identity!

  11. As an advocate of public schools for my sons and now with a grandson in a private school I can shed some light on all this. You are all over thinking this whole deal. The coach is the difference. The school with the best coachs get the best players. The schools with the best coachs win the most games. Colleges with the best coachs do the same. It is really pretty simple.

  12. Lights, Camera, Action.... How is it 100% contradicting?

Section 7 deals with a student who passes the 7th or 8th grade and chooses to repeat one of those years and how it affects his high school eligibility during his 9th GRADE YEAR.

Section 8 deals with a student who repeats the 8th grade and how he is not eligible to play high school basketball during the year he is repeating the 8th GRADE.

Put the two together and Section 7 makes an 8th grader who chooses to repeat the 8th grade after passing ineligible to play high school basketball both his 8th and 9th GRADE YEARS.

Section 8 makes an 8th grader who repeats because he did not pass the 8th grade in the first place ineligible for HS basketball during repeating the 8th GRADE YEAR.

Either way an 8th grader repeating the 8th grade (pass or fail/returning student or a student who changes schools) is not eligible to play HS basketball during the year he is repeating the 8th grade.

Now I don't remember anyone mentioning this player was illegally recruited and I do agree how it is the student-athlete who is hurt the most and that is sad. Same old system, as BoDawgs has made reference to, adults, players and coaches who end up exploting or hurting student-athletes under the guise of "regulations too stringent or confusing" or "best interest of the student." And the next generation of kids grows up ready to replace these adults. Maybe there is much more at stake than we realize, because the kids are watching.

How did I do? Did I hit my cues? How was hair and make-up? ;)

    Fact? :)

  13. It would be a lot easier to have a conversation about this topic if everyone would get the facts of the story first... Instead of pretending that you know what's really going on with a young mans life (when really you have NO idea) . Sad that we waste time to get on here and talk about student/athletes like they are commodities. I know for a fact the player in question was never contacted by his current school before he showed up in the driveway and applied for admission. He had a very sad/bad experience at his previous school and chose to go to a school where he could excell on and off the court. With that said, the TSSAA approved his eligibility in October, wrote a letter stating the player was eligible, only to later (60 days later) tell that same 14 yr old boy he can no longer play because THEY made a mistake. (TSSAA not the school).

How do you mis-interpret your own rules???

How do you do that to 14 yr old kid???

This is not about anyone being recruited, nor transferring. It's about a great young man who just so happens to be a pretty dang good ball player. If you'll check the handbook for TSSAA-"repeating rules" in section 7 and section 8 they are completely 100% contradicting. Someone over there needs to proof read their rules before they send them off to print .

.....and you will be given a "FACT" by kbrks in...4...3...2...1......

  14. I'm beginning to think there is not a lot of intelligence on here to insult! Every kid, athlete or not, at a private school is recruited. I'm a public school advocate if the quality of education(or athletic opportunity) is comparable but everyone should have the right to go to whatever school they choose within the rules.
