  1. That team was handed to her. Time will tell the whole story.

Kind of like Phil Jackson when he went to Los Angeles, the pieces have been at Hillsboro but when Katrina Carter got there she was able to put them together. No disrespect to Coach McGill ,but the Lady Burros have had great teams in the past but I think this 1st year interim coach was the missing piece.Winning the AAA state title in her 1st year as a high school interim coach says a lot. That is the whole story. If she doesn't get the job permanently, she should be in demand for a good posistion somewhere.

  2. I have been involved in AAU for 14yrs. now. H.L. Cummins has always been there for our club going above and beyond his duties as girls chair to help us and anyone he could.Five years ago the national chair made a similar decision to let a team bypass the rules then that team didn't even attend the nationals due to the shoe sponsored tournaments deciding to go head to head with AAU and schedule their tourney the same weekend as the AAU.The age group was sixteen which most of us know is the age college recruiters are most concerned with.It baffles me why anyone in authority with AAU wouldn't see this as a major threat to the future of AAU unless somehow they gain a monetary consideration from it.In our third year of AAU involvement back when we had no online registration I was helping a friend who couldn't get AAU cards due to the person responsible for issuing them quitting in midstream and leaving many people with their cards in limbo.I 3-way called the national office and got a high level official who accused Peanut of cheating because he had helped me to get my cards the week before without delay. The remark this official made was aimed at Peanut and east Tn.At that point I had never met or spoken with Peanut before requesting his help, the accusation made was uncalled for and made me leary of that official and I don't think he will want Mr. Cummins back because he is fair and helps anyone without exception.

It is a sad day when good folk are forced to stop doing what they are good at and passionate about.Peanut has obviously been dealing with these issues for sometime now and is fed up with all the infighting.

Mr and Mrs Cummins we will miss you both.

As for our 10 teams of boys and girls we will take a wait and see approach and weigh our options.

  3. Bri,

I also thought it was time for your neice to move on.Her team was talented but in this day talent alone doesn't get you noticed.I think it is an honor when our organization has a player the shoe sponsored teams come after.I do think those coaches often times mislead a player and inflate their abilities to improve a players chances.Telling an 8th grader college coaches aren't going to see them when they play for us is irresponsible.I don't fight over players or bother them if they play for someone else, but this is the nature of the beast and I hear of coaches getting mad and talking crazy to parents and harrassing kids because they won't switch teams. Its these coaches that make a bad name for AAU.

  4. I personally don't think she's SEC material. If I can contain her, anyone can. But, congrats.

WHAT !!!! I don't know who you are and it doesn't matter. Vandy wanted her real bad and so did most every other SEC school.Did you contain her with a baseball bat???

Congrats to JH her family and to the Ga Bulldogs. Have a great funfilled senior season.

Haters keep doing what you do best.

  6. QUOTE(ashjan44 @ Mar 12 2007 - 08:33 AM) 826408709[/snapback]You must keep everything in proper perspective. Hudson is a very good player.......for single A. She deserves all the attention she receives. However, could she guard Dawn Evans,or Carolyn Aldridge or Tara Davis? Doubt it. Also, they all could easily guard her, as could a 6-2 Glory Johnson. Aldridge is the best player people didn't get a chance to see much of outside of metro and on a good AAA team would be mentioned for Miss Bkbl.

I think you are referring to Carolyn Mills of Nashville Glencliff. Alridge played there almost two decades ago. And went on to star at TSU and win an OVC title there.

  7. As I have said and will continue to say Tenn. has some of the best basketball on the girls side in the whole country. It's intriguing that we will have this Leonard or Ferris topic on the boards for three more years.

AAA-Lanning although I think Jenkins or Puleo or better players.Lanning has done more and overcome more obstacles to have a stellar senior year.

AA-Ferris stats are impressive but I don't think she would dominante the best post players in this classification. In AAU she is not nearly impressive playing against better players game in game out. DELK should win this.Kaci has more upside than any player in the state.

A- Leonard because she is a hard worker.I hope her being a freshmen doesn't sway some of the voters who may thinnk she has time to win it in later.

  8. The Wolverines were down at least by 16 pts in the second half, but its hard to judge the play with these two coaches who aren't as concerned about winning these types of games as they are as seeing which players can do what in a given situation as some of us more eager to win at all times parents and fans. The Burros are the better team at this point but the Lady Wolverines and L. Jefferson proved what I said earlier " they are the team with the most upcoming talent in the midstate alongside Hillsborro. The Wilson Co. teams and Smyrna have to consider the Wolverines as a formidable foe right now.

  9. The Wolverines won't challenge anyone this year but watch out for them for the next few years they potentially have the most talented freshmen class. They have the above mentioned freshmen plus the 6'4" Stephanie Myers who should progress in coming years into as dominant player as LaQuinta is right now.

I saw MJ in a playday last week and they don't have the talent level as in years past Their dedication and hard work will be heavily relied upon if they are going to make it to state. They haven't missed the state in concesutive seasons in a few years.

  10. IN METRO NASHVILLE

Lakeisha Crowder - Hillsboro; should start or be 6th man on a squad more loaded than last year.

Netanya Eubanks - McGavock; May not get much time behind her 6'2 Florida bound cousin Madu, but at 6'2 can fill in when needed.

Tenisha Stinson- McGavock;guard who can score from the outside or slash to the basket and defends well on the perimeter.Should be in the top eight rotation on one of the top teams in the midstate area.

  11. For people to say that all AAU teams do is run and gun, disregard teaching the game and the coaches are wannabes is ridiculous. Our organization is not one of the top teams in the state but most of our coaches either are coaches in middle school, high school or have played the game collegiately and we as showtime has stated are happy to have helped fourteen girls reach the collegiate level over the past three years and we don't even make it to the shoe sponsored tourneys.I think most AAU coaches are more involved in the recruiting of their players than the high school coaches who often times just relay letters of inerest that was gained thru AAU participation. If your child or one you know is on a team coached by wannabes and isn't being taught anything then that is unfortunate because AAU or travel ball in TN. is much better than that.I really appreciate the high school coaches and most want their players playing so they have an even better chance to improve in the off season.Take a poll of high school coaches.
