  1. I dont think you could say that neither Holston nor Blountville are spewing out the talent so whats the point. Is Vaughn getting ready to retire or something?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Coach Vaughn has 10-15 more years of coaching in his system.

  2. Easy there big fella. The Tribe has been to the State 2 out of the last three years. (2 conference titles, 2 Region Titles and 2 sub-state wins). There's still a lot of hoops to be played before you beat your chest too loudly. Oh, and all-time wins/conference titles/head-to-head/region titles/sub-state titles/state tournaments?????? shhhhhhh, that's better.

enrollment, total years in existence, number of players stolen from other schools???????? shhhhhhh, thats better

  3. Forgive me if I am mistaken, but didn't DB get beat by about 40 in the opening round of the Arby's Classic. If this is so, I hardly believe they can be considered the #1 team in North East TN.

nah i think it was more like 25 but i have been wrong before

  4. Well lets see Central's top scorer was Buchanan with 25......21 of which were in the first half. DB got 25 from Sensabaugh, and 17 from both Throp and Blackwell. 15 of Blackwell's being in the second half. Central plays no defense whatsoever. DB should never score 80 points in a game. If Central continues to play defense (if thats what they call it) like that, then they are in for a rude awakening this season  . They might be able to outscore a few teams, but not any good ones. Anyways congratulations to Dobyns-Bennett for their big road win.

That is central's problem every year. They give up way too many points. They have good players but it is hard win games when opposing teams shoot layups every other time down the court.

  5. As long as South is on the DB schedule, DB will never have a winless season. I just hope they don't pull a North or a Greenville on us and hit the road.

Come on man. North's enrollment is about one third of DB's. DB should beat north based simply on the fact they have more kids to choose from. On top of that, they have better faciltiies and a lot more money to invest into their program. Losing to north, except perhaps in a "Hoosier like season," in my opinion would be embarrasing, so you cannot fault them for dropping DB, although, I cannot understand why anyone would want to drop a good team from their schedule. I thought tuff scheduling helps teams get better.

  6. I'll agree with you that Ashworth is just size. Beau is the best player on the team. But Central is pretty loaded with talent. Size is just gonna be the only problem this year. But they will still find a way to win. And, Phil and Gabe were getting recruited by D-1 schools.

who is recruiting phillip and gabe?

  7. I graduated from Central a few years ago and occassionally check out these threads. I'm getting sick of Central students, who probably have never touched a basketball in their life, getting on here and downing other teams and their players. It shows no class and makes Central look bad. I also don't understand how you can talk about how good Central is, how bad they are going to beat SHHS, and how they will win the district and make it back to the state tournament. When did Central establish themselves as a basketball powerhouse in Tennessee? I'm pretty sure they haven't so quit showing your ignorance by talking trash and glorifying Central and how great they are. You guys might want to win something first or atleast more than once every sixteen years. The Hamptons, Johnson Counties, Unicois, and other small AA schools are no longer on the schedule. It won't be a cake walk to the state tournament like it was last year and should have been the two years before, but the beating there would probably be about the same.

  8. the watagua conference had way too many people on the team just like they did last year. I guess whoever picks it is afraid of hurting someone's feelings. As for Hunter Sparks making first team over Gabe, all conference teams mean nothing so stop worrying about it.

  9. Every ranking, whether it be AP or coacht, are mostly computed. They do not show a lot of information. Coacht doesn't give any ranking points to teams outside of TSSAA teams. AP mostly reflects teams up to Knoxville and rarely indicates any team east of Knoxville but Science Hill. Sullivan Central belongs in the State because they beat a good Clinton team that no one east of the Tri-Cities gave them any chance to beat. I remember the Science Hill team that won the first of three State titles. Everyone east of the Tri-Cities said they had no business being in the state. Well after three titles within ten years, they have earned respect, what little Northeast TN gets, from other areas of TN. Granted the best overall quality of basketball can be found in the Memphis hotbed, BUT!!!!!!! there are some quality teams that can make a run for the title and are worthy of being in the final eight from the Tri-Cities area. Sullivan Central is one of them. Unaka is another and TN High has proven they can battle with the BIG DOGS. So! Regardless of what personal and polled opinions are, the State Title has to be settled on the hardwood. Rankings go out the window. Remember Unaka last year and you will find out that it comes down to three things....... turnovers, free throws, and HEART!!!!! Who wants it more? Good luck to EVERY TEAM that has the priviledge to play in the ELITE 8 next weekend. GOD BLESS!!!!!!  thumb

Good post Stokomo. Also, Central beat Alcoa not Clinton.

  10. Didn't the Skyhawks play UNC this year OR was that Duke???  In any event, this game is gonna be a massacre.  Save your money Sullivan Central faithful because I see a beatdown coming up here.  AE-D. Lipscomb, Humboldt-RE, and especially Haywood-MLK should all be competitive games.  Bolivar may as well have a bye here because they are going to the semifinals.

Felton didn't play for UNC in the Santa Clara game bluedevils12.  I may be mistaken here, but I think Willie Kemp might suit up for this one.  Just a hunch thumb

    McCants, May, etc???

  11. i understand heart and determination, but have u stopped to consider that maybe bolivar might have just as much if not more heart and determination than central? the underdog doesnt necessarily have more heart.

I think all the local teams that play in district one should support the teams that make it to the state and substate from our disctrict rather than bring them down.

  12. For some reason i don't believe that Mosely has a 16-1 career record. Who beat him? Is that record only for conference games? Also, Mosley's fastball may be flat, but I don't think he throws it for a strike very much. Although I could be wrong, he mainly uses it as a set up pitch or if he falls way behind in the count and needs to come with a strike. This is just my observation.
