  2. I agree with you 100% barb, the devils were very good at the foul line, and i can't remember Manual missing one. They did a pretty good job at stoping Cait, but that girls has got some good moves up her sleeves. But an overall great performance from all the Lady Devils!! Also the Freshman Lauren Anderson did a great job at coming in an hitting a three point basket!! But i just hope that the Devils play with the same intensity at the State and maybe if they are lucky get them a state title!

  3. My understanding is that their region just has not organized a local Area Tournament to advance to the Regional. Maybe someone else can clarify that? GMS only started playing in the Area tournament last year because it conflicts with their conference tournament. Because no one else in GMS's conference is a member of TMSAA, they do not work around this tournament to accomodate GMS. I have seen GMS play Cleveland several times because they are great competition for them. Cleveland could have won this tournament this year...in my opinion.

  4. The incoming GHS freshman class is as deep and more athletic overall than the 5 freshman on the varsity squad this year. They may not be as experienced and game savy but they sure have the athletic ability to compliment Burkey's current talent. There are atleast 2 strong post players and another post player who is only a 7th grader who will fill some needs in the next year or two. As usual players start to drop at the high school level and I foresee this happening cause there won't be enough playing time for everyone. For a coach that could be a good problem to have.

  5. Actually the GMS girls have won their conference and tourney for 4 out of the last 5 years and took 2nd the other year. I beleive they would have been the TMSSAA East Region Champs for several of those years but this is the first year they entered the Region or Area Tournament. Based on these kind of numbers, you would think the high school would also follow with some good numbers. The high school does not seem to attract the female athletes though that South Greene does, maybe a winning program may do that. With the talent level at the GHS currently and with the talent coming up from the 7th and 8th grade classes this year, a new coach will be stepping in at a great time.

  6. Unfortunatley, Greeneville has had a great middle school program but the high school coaches have never taken the time or the care to work with the middle school coach...they are the one's who haven't bothered to get involved with these girls early. If it wasn't for the middle school coach working with these girls from 3rd grade up, the high school wouldn't have a program. Shame on the high school coaching staff for not having a JV team this year! If they would have worked a little harder, they could have had a team. The players on the B-team at the middle school are made to feel that they are as valued as the varsity squad but this isn't so at the high school level.

Maybe the middle school coach may not be ready to coach the high school team or maybe he is but he can't do anymore than he already does at the middle school level to help the high school unless they want to get involved and help themselves.
