  1. QUOTE(uncfan09 @ Apr 19 2007 - 09:04 AM) 826440940[/snapback]Remember that you are dealing with high school age players now. If you are playing at a high school field designed for older age play, there is no need for fencing or netting. These players should be tuned in and focused on the game. Now if you are at a public park facility designed for varied play, there should be protection in fencing or netting.

In middle Tenn. most on school fields have open dugouts.

My personal opinion is that it helps your younger kids stay in the game because they have to pay attention to the ball.

We also do not allow anyone except the pitcher and catcher to sit down during the game. This helps with people's focus on the game.

It doesn't matter how old you are or how mutch attention you pay, you can't dodge a line drive ball when it's hit right at you. I have seen balls fouled into these dugouts and hit several girls by bouncing around in there. Maybe if everyone in the dugout wore their batting helmets and keep their glove on it would be safer.

  2. Columbia's finest leaders at work! Maybe they don't care that the girls do not have nice fields to play on, but I don't understand why they can't see the revenue that Columbia would bring in hosting tournaments. I have been coaching in Columbia for 15 years and was on the CGFP board a couple of years ago so I know we have been trying to get new fields for a long time. The project is already a couple of years late getting started and last night the mayor said it will be a couple more before the fields are ready. What's the problem? Will we have some endangered species of critters or plants found there that will stop the project like the Columbia Dam? I was also on the soccer board several years ago when they were going to build new regulation size soccer fields with lights. Well the land is still sitting there with only practice goals on them! I guess as long as we can have Mule Day and that stupid River Walk, everything will be fine in Columbia!

    P.S. I am a Columbia native and lived here all my life, so I have a right to be /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

  3. The Slammers based out of Columbia, TN has a few spots left before the roster is full. During the late spring we will play on Tue & Thursday nights in Columbia and play local tourneys on the weekends and during the summer. We will not play every weekend and tourneys will be in the Mid-Tn area within a couple of hours from Columbia. Contact me at rtinsley@mrhs.com. "Let's play ball." ;)

  4. I am a tssaa certified ref..i also play high school boys soccer..the main thing that needs to happen is more refs dealing with fans..they allow for way too much vulgarity and profaness while reffing a match..if someone decides to run their mouth about a game and refuses to stop then either kick them out or go hand them a rule book with the tssaa link and tell them to go get certified and ref the games themselves..i believe that would shut them up..i used to complain about the refs until i began reffing rec league which contains less contact then high school..i now realize refs do the best they can in their positions and keep my mouth closed and play the game..if u hear about certain schools needing refs during this girls season or select ball then my email is marcus_cooke@hotmail.com and i would love to help.

You are 100% correct. I reffed for for 10 years without pay in AYSO and did some club & Middle School games until my knees told me to quit. I was also a certified AYSO coach & ref instructor. I had several parents change their mind about their sideline conduct after I would either stop the game and go talk to them and embarrase them or if it wasn't too bad, I would go talk to them during halftime. In either case I would inform them that I could have missed the call, but I could give them free training and they could go do a better job. Amazingly during the rest of the game the fans were cheering on their players, not criticizing the refs. Sometimes you will get the uncooperative fan that will have to be told to leave. If they don't, you need to stop the game and tell the coach that they will forfeit if that person doesn't leave the area. Don't let it go on because it will only get worse as the game goes on. The same goes for the players. Stop unrully conduct as soon as it starts.

  5. No, the team that I have is a rec team that was thrown together by the league. They didn't have a coach, so the league president asked me if I would coach. I asked my daughter Becky if she wanted to help, so we did. We won the Libby Wells Memorial Tournament in Columbia and came in 2nd in the season. We knocked out the undefeated first place team by winning the last 4 in a row games as we fell into the loser bracket. The last 3 games were on the same night. With only 9 players in town, our shortstop got hit under her left eye during a throw down in the first inning of the first game and had to leave to get several stitches put in at the hospital. We won that game and the next with only 8 players, with the 9th batter automatically out of course. (I think that is a stupid rule.) She came back and played the last game. Her mom said she (the shortstop) kept telling the ER staff to hurry up, that she had a ball game to get back to. She has my vote for tough girl of the year! We had 5 girls that had little to no experience playing fastpitch softball and 3 will stay down in the 12u division next year. We are very proud of these girls for their determination! :)

  6. 14u rec team in Columbia area looking to develop into local travel team. Need another pitcher & catcher. Other positions may be available. Team finished 2nd in 12u league after losing championship game by 1 run. Visitor of course! Came in 1st in local tournament with only 8 players after 1 got hurt. Moving up to 14u in fall league. Will be playing in Columbia league next year with possible area tournaments. No long distance with overnight stays. So if your wanting to play competitive softball and have fun without the expense please beep me @ 931-353-4069 and key in your phone # after the beep.
