Region 4 Duals will be Thursday January 27th at Walker Valley High School. Wrestling will start at 6pm with the semi's: Soddy Daisy vs. Walker Valley and Bradley vs. Cleveland. The two winners will then wrestle for the Region 4 Championship.
-
You are correct, I meant to say the winner of Bradley and Cleveland at Region Duals will face Soddy Daisy in the finals of Region Duals. Your post is 100% correct though.
PRT iii
PRTiii, he was not 100% correct. There are no seeds it is district champ vs district runner-ups.
StarRaider, You are close...Region 4 has two districts D7 & D8. Semi's: D7 #1 vs D8 #2; D7 #2 vs. D8 #1
Finals: The two winners then wrestle for the Region 4 championship, with both teams moving on to the state duals.
There are still a couple of matches that need to be wrestled to decide the actual final teams and their positions for the Region 4 Duals.
The Region Duals will be held Thursday Jan. 27th, 6pm at Walker Valley High School.

NFHS released rule changes for next year. They also decided not to make any changes to the weight classes we currently have now. Here is the link:

Travis Creagan/Bradley should be mentioned somewhere. Travis Creagan state finishes 3-1-1-2 (his only losses in the state tournament were to Kyle James his Freshmen year and Brandon Wright his Senior year), and I believe Travis still has the most wins in school history.
Did you see this?
"Another 36 To Consider ...
TRAVIS CREAGAN ... Bradley Central ... 2x champ; 2005-06 ... 3x finalist ... 4x medalist (3-1-1-2) ... Bears all-time leader in wins ... medaled at junior nationals ... started as a freshman at Columbia"
Yes I see it NOW. It was not on the original post. If you noticed the list has been edited 5 times already.

I don't think an MV freshman coach would get on here and lie about whether or not the JV or freshmen played. Just my two cents.
And if we want to check some JV/freshmen scores for upcoming talent, let's look at last night's freshmen and JV games for Rhea vs McMinn Co. Impressive victories for both F and JV teams last night for Rhea County. Oooooh, Ooltewah, I'd be shaking in my cleats if I was you.
Ooltewah, flap your wings and your beaks all you want this week. You know you're gonna win, we know you're gonna win. We'll still show up and play 100%. Put in your trainers, your waterboys, your cheerleaders if that will make you feel big. You can't stomp on our pride. Rhea County Golden Eagle PRIDE. We'll be bringing it with us Friday. See you then!
eaglefan, I didn't lie. But it seems there are a few owl fans that will feel better if they think otherwise. The only players at that game for Walker Valley were 9th graders. I was proud of our team as they battled the top freshmen team in the area. In fact we played without our starting running back who was out with a sperated shoulder. Congrats to the owl freshmen on winning a good close game vs. the 9th graders from Walker Valley. It will be good to see these 9th graders 2 or 3 years from now. Good luck to the Owls and the Eagles.

I agree #6 was a very good player for the Owls.

I dont think Stokes is a freshman is he?
Yes he is(Antwane). You are thinking of his other two bro's that are Soph(Jeffery) and Jr(Jock).
Like I said all Freshmen...I should know. If you don't want to believe me then I guess thats up to you. Any other players you want to know about?
-
Funny, Walker Valley had a junior and at least 3 sophomores playing tonight, so you can't say that the Mustangs brought a freshman team down for the game.
I know you guys have been arguing back and forth with Rhea/Ooltewah stuff and I dont want to argue but I can assure you we had all freshmen. I am one of the freshmen coaches so I should know. If you were going by jersey numbers then I can see where you may have been confused. The Freshmen used an older set of jerseys with missing numbers so you couldn't go by the roster from Fridays game. Again both Freshmen teams played well and the future looks good for both groups.

Quite a change after 96? Huh Golden Bird... Oh, I get it...That's when Benny must have come to town ......in 05'???????????????
Phishy, while I am a RCHS grad, I haven't seen a game in a while because I live away. Yes, I do believe that Ooletwah has had Rhea County's number as of late (indicated by my post). Why is this? I would say for the most part you (owls) have a much bigger talent pool to draw from and yes the new school will hurt your program, if nothing else in the department of depth. and don't worry good ole benny has been known to leave when the talent looks to take a step down just ask your neighbors up I-75
Good luck to both teams on the rest of your seasons.
Buddy Bird,
It is obvious that you live in Alaska with Sarah Palin, cause you don't know what you are talking about.
Our talent pool is fine. Just saw the freshman play tonight. They beat Walker Valley's JV by 8. After looking at the scores from the NEW school, I think their talent pool is the one tanking. Migrate back to Tennessee if it gets too cold Bird Boy!
Phish, I need to correct you on one thing...the Owls freshmen beat Walker Valley' FRESHMEN and not the JV. It was a good game by both teams.

Congratulations to Eric Phillips, new head wrestling coach at Cleveland.

As an alumni of UTC I am very loyal to the UTC wrestling program and I think that it is very important for UTC to find a quality coach for the future of the program. UTC is the closest Division I program to Alabama, making it a great choice for kids from Alabama who want to wrestle at the next level (I coach at Hoover and went to UTC from Alabama, so that's important to me).
My #1 choice for Coach Bono's replacement is Heath Eslinger. Coach Eslinger was an assistant coach under Terry Brands when I first went to UTC and he did an excellent job of developing the student athletes on and off the mat. Coach Eslinger is a great role model for college age kids and he has had a positive impact on my life and has guided me through several very tough decisions. I feel like I could call him for anything and he would take time out to help me with whatever. I feel like that is a very important quality for a coach to have.
The past several coaches at UTC have been "big name" coaches. Coach Brands and Coach Bono did a great job but left for better oppurtunities when they came up. I think that this time UTC needs a guy who is willing to build a program for the future and who has loyalty to the program. Coach Eslinger graduated from UTC where he was a 3X NCAA qualifier and has lived around Chattanooga his whole life. I think that he would stay at UTC for the long haul and would be able to build UTC into a national power year in and year out. Other programs around the country have proven that you don't need a "big name" to be successful (Mizzou, Central Michigan, etc).
These are just my thoughts as an alumni of UTC.
I wish Coach Bono the best of luck as he goes back home to Iowa State.
TJ, Great post, I couldn't have said it any better. Heath Eslinger would be an outstanding coach at UTC. I feel it is time UTC hire a coach that is not only willing to work hard, but a coach who is willing to stay the course at UTC and not use the position as a "stepping stone" for a higher profile job.
Heath is a UTC alumn that is not only qualified for the job, but he is a perfect fit. He has wrestled at UTC. He was an assistant coach at UTC. He and his wife are from the Chattanooga area. He is one of the top high school coaches in the south. He wants to be at UTC.
I've known Heath since I coached him in Kids Club wrestling and we've been best of friends ever since. Over the years I've followed his wrestling career and even had the opportunity to coach with him. He is one of the hardest workers I've known. He cares about his wrestlers, not only when they're on the mat but in the classroom and in life.
Heath is a great coach but he is an even better person.
My opinion is Heath Eslinger would be a great coach at UTC.

The Walker Valley Duals have been cancelled. I have been informed by the Chattanooga Officals Assosciation that due to the high number of tournaments on the weekend we had scheduled the Walker Valley Duals that they would not be able to support another tournament. So at this time we will investigate another possible date for the tournament. Apologies to those who already committed to attend our tournament.

Walker Valley high school will host a dual meet tournament Saturday December 5th, 2009 at Walker Valley High School in Cleveland, Tennessee. There will be a total of 8 teams, with 2 pools of 4 teams in each pool.
Also, if you are interested in getting a dual meet with anyone on Friday night December 4th please let me know as well. We will try to do the best we can at not having anyone wrestle a team from their pool or a team they see during the regular season.
If you are interested in participating in this tournament please contact Coach Alan Morris by cell(423-303-0012), work(423-336-1383) or by email(amorris@bradleyschools.org). To assist us in planning this tournament we ask that you reply to this invitation as soon as possible to allow us to make this tournament a success. Thanks..

Bayor and McCallie weren't participating in the TSSAA for a couple of decades. The numbers would be much different.
countrypk, FYI Bradley didn't start wrestling until 1973-74.

Here is what I know. Lindsey had a dislocated elbow. X-rays showed no broken bones. He is at home with his arm in a sling. I'm not sure of his status for the state tournament but right now it doesn't look good. Thank you for asking.

This article is one reason I love wrestling. It is also a reason I'm glad I know Steve Henry and can call him a friend. Best wishes young Mr. Hammons.

Just a note that Travis Creagan had been wrestling with an injured shoulder and finally had to have surgery to repair it. He will not wrestle the remainder of this season.
