  1. WV, I agree with you on this. It is quite interesting to see BB comment on this. D1 voted to separate into two tournaments so your guys could have a better chance to win. Enough said on that. Now you want to tell them how to run their tournament. Priceless! I guess you will want a Master Card next.

Private schools had the option of staying in DI by not giving financial aid or they could elect to move to DII. I think Boyd Buchanan is one private school that has been DI from the split. As I'm sure you're aware Notre Dame and Knox Catholic have moved from DII to DI this year.

  2. Well, there must be a reason that girls do not have an equal in HS. But, why can't you just answer the question? If a female basketball player wants to play with the boys basketball team, should they be allowed to? It might fit the "brave" criteria and teach boys how to compete in the business world later in life,,,,all the things being said about letting girls wrestle boys.

Tex, I have seen on ESPN (maybe on Outside the Lines) where there was a girl who was a starter on the boys team. I guess that's OK with everyone but what about the boys who were cut from that team shouldn't they be aloud to try out for the girls team if they wanted too?

  3. bigbadwolfTN, Im not sure who you are but I think if you are or were a part of the Baylor program you can ask Coach Morgan why Bradley stopped wrestling Baylor. I know for a fact Coach Logsdon told him exactly why. Also, Bradley stopped wrestling McCallie somewhere around the time they were given the death penalty for rules violations with the TSSAA. Bradley did wrestle Baylor after the split for a period of time. Bradley also has continued to wrestle Notre Dame and CBHS in duals or tournaments. So the D1/D2 split wasn't the reason for dropping McCallie or Baylor from the schedule.

  4. Tex, Your scenerio may very well be the only way it does ever happen. That or some major changes with the BC program. Again, other than from a fans perspective, why fix what isn't broke. Bradley seems to still be reaching their goals of state championships.

  5. Here's the latest poll.

    STATE POLL:

RANK SCHOOL POWER RANKING LAST WEEK

    1 McCALLIE 100 2

    2 BAYLOR 91 1

    3 BRADLEY CEN. 83 5

    4 SODDY DAISY 72 3

    5 CLARKSVILLE 65 8

    6 MBA 64 4

    7 NOTRE DAME 34 9

    8 COLLIERVILLE 30 ---

    9 OOLTEWAH 29 ---

    10 FATHER RYAN 23 10

    11 SCIENCE HILL 20 7

    12 CBHS 14 6

    Interesting....

    Mcallie beat Baylor

    Soddy beat McCallie

    Bradley beat Soddy

Not that it really matters but shouldn't that make Bradley #1?

Who votes in this poll besides the Blue coaches? I've never met or heard of anyone who has a vote. No Bradley coach has ever been asked to vote. It would seem 15 state championships would earn a vote.

Going back to the original topic of this thread.....does anyone know who votes in this poll and how many votes are there? Thanks

  6. Sly: ND wrestled Mc at Soddy Daisy. They lost to Mc 40 something to 20 something.

ND also wrestled in a tourney that Baylor competed in but I don't remember which one.

So there was no dual meet scheduled with Baylor?

  7. As someone pointed out McCallie did beat Soddy. What I think is interesting is that Soddy puts it on the line every year; they wrestle both Baylor and McCallie without a thought of private vs public. They just want good competition without the politics. Imagine the the publicity and gate if Bradley wrestled both. Here's another thought, wouldn' it be great if there was an annual meet where the two public powers battled the two private powers in back-to-back matches on two mats, right before a UTC match. How many people would come to see it?

Looks like Bradley's schedule hasn't hurt them too bad to me. Just a thought.

  8. Why is it that in all other sports that have polls or rankings they are divided by classifications, but in wrestling we have just one poll for both DI and DII?

Seems to me that the poll would look something like this:

    DI

    1. Bradley

    2. Soddy

    3. Clarksville

    4. Notre Dame

    5. Collierville

    6. Ooltewah

    7. Science Hill

    8. Greenville

    9. Franklin

    10. Kenwood

    DII

    1. McCallie

    2. Baylor

    3. MBA

    4. Father Ryan

    5. CBHS

  9. This is simply sad...

Was a call of this consequence altered by a parent running toward the mats and yelling,,, he bit my son? Suspension from regions and state seems too permanent not to consider some leniency whether this was clearly a bite from one who may have no past history with poor sportsmanship, and the possible influence of a call by a parent of one of the wrestlers.

Remember, I've witnessed how tough this kid can get when he's down in a match.

Ronnie Carter and Mike Parker, I have no dog in the fight here, but please reconsider the suspension of this Greenville wrestler if there's any doubt of his intentions on bottom. This just doesn't seem to all add up.

    Dave Sommers

SOMS, I don't think this is the forum to appeal TSSAA decisions. Go to www.tssaa.org. Besides any appeals should be made by the coach and schools administration and I'm sure they are doing all they can if they feel they have a case. Just my opinion.

  10. if we want a male volleyball team go lobby on the volleyball link, ..............................................................................Spectators, does it really bother us that much to see a girl wrestling. Seriously, how bad is it.

mcwrestler, The reason I don't think boys should be wrestling girls is I think its inappropriate. Thats it. It has nothing to do with winning or losing. I have seen many wrestling matches over the years and I've seen dozens of matches with boys wrestling girls and 99% of the time the boy wins.....not a surprise. You say if we want a volleyball team then go lobby for it.....OK, well until there is a boys volleyball team the boys should get to compete on the girls volleyball teams just like the girls are getting to wrestle on the boys teams(until there is a girls team).

There once was a high school wrestler who played volleyball during the summers and was a pretty good player and when he asked to start a boys team he was told there were no other boys teams so there was no reason to start a boys team. He then asked if he could play on the girls team and he was told NO! He could have taken it to court but it sure would have looked bad for a big bad wrestler going to court so he could play girls volleyball. I guess one problem I have is I don't like the double standards.

As far as how bad is it to watch a girl wrestle a boy....I'm sure there are exceptions but most of the matches don't last very long....the boy usually pins her and really I am concerned that the girl might get hurt.....hurt bad.

  11. I graduated high school last year, so my perspective is a relativly recent one. I doubt much has changed since last year. Did I enjoy wrestling girls, no. But I also did not have a problem with it. . I would rather not be in the lose lose situation but an opponent is an opponent and I admire the girls for giving it a shot and showing that they too can compete. Sommers, it isn't imposing embarrassment on our boys, it is giving oppurtunities to the girls.

mcwrestler or (anyone who is in favor of girls being allowed to play or wrestle with the boys), Would you be in favor of giving a boy that was cut from the boys basketball team or boys soccer team the "opportunity" to play on the girls team? On an earlier post someone mentioned that if a girl was good enough then she should have the opportunity to play with the boys. Well if a boy isn't good enough to play with the boys but was good enough to play with the girls then shouldn't he have that option?

  12. Congrats to Oakland and there head coach for representing our region. I think they wrestled very well...this really proves how all of us coaches need to work hard and build a championship level program. We are far from it but i really think Blackmon will have the potential in a year or two.

Well then you'd better get to work! LOL

  13. You scared men miss MCwrestler's point. Wrestling will never be overtaken by girls but girls volleyball and girls softball could very well be taken over by boys. Is not a fair comparison. They let boys be cheerleaders and yet they will never take over that sport. You have to look at it in a case by case basis.

And besides, why should we limit this incredible character building sport to just boys. Build more character and self esteem in girls and you will see teen age pregnacy, suicide rates, etc. etc drop to all time lows.

Don't be afraid of the girls, they wont bite.

Well if we shouldn't "limit this incredible character building sport to just boys" then why should we limit the opportunities for boys to play volleyball and softball? While I personally don't agree with girls wrestling boys, I have a bigger problem when others will debate why girls should be given opportunities and ignore the opportunities that boys are not given.

  14. I think this years State Duals was the best yet. There were more teams and I'm sure by the way the fans were packed in the stands it was the most attended Duals yet. I would assume it was the best year financially as well. The State Duals has grown into such a great event, however I do feel it has outgrown the Clarksville High school gym(s). Move the Duals to a larger facility and add 4 more teams to the AA/A division to allow more wrestlers and fans the opportunity to experience this great event. I think it would be better to host the event at a neutral site such as a college or convention center. Also, Artie Manning should be commended for another great job as tournament director. Coach Manning is a class act.

Can you imagine the uproar we would have if Clarksville would have been winning the Duals all these years in Clarksville? Thank goodness for Bradley! LOL

  15. Did Grundy Co drop wrestling?

If so wouldn't they have a mat?

Have you contacted these great programms ?(McCallie, SD, Bradley. )How does the Football coach feel about wrestling? You might want to print some of the great articles that has been on Coacht ref "How wrestling makes football player better. Good Luck, I hate seeing programms struggle and die.

    Hang in there.

If you can't find the articles let me know and I will send.

Not sure if Grundy dropped their program or not but I think one of their mats is at St. Andrews Sewanee. They used it for the Mt. Top Tournament.
