  1. I'm ready for the season. Ready for the challenge of a new district and new opponents. I will miss some of our old rivals cause those were the teams that that we played at Gibbs when I played. As a fan of high school football, its fun to play new teams, visit new schools, experience new traditions, and see some of the teams that I was only able to read about.

Anxious to see how we do in the league, but I feel if we come in and play smart football (minimize turnovers/penalties, strong defense, sound kicking game) we can be competitive.

I'm looking for team/coach twitters to follow post if you know of any. Ours is @GibbsSports

  3. WOW, I bet it was a great game. I saw Alcoa play Maryville a couple weeks ago and they looked strong. I kept hearing good things about the AE defense, looks like they stepped it up. And AE made a field goal??? It was their night! Looks like a great playoff matchup.

  7. Five classes = more traveling than many teams want, even for region games. Three classes with a three class playoff system (old system) = not enough playoff games, which, however you feel about it, would affect money generated. Three classes with a six-class playoff system = mass confusion at times :roflol:

I still think a four-class system should be tried. It might seem difficult in the middle of a classification period but two-year schedules have concluded, just take the teams and divide by four instead of by three. It would balance the positives of local or relatively local district matchups with the number of playoff games needed.

If you went to four classes and didn't include the teams that don't have football (the reason 1A and 2A playoffs now have fewer teams) the cutoffs would be roughly at 500, 825, 1300. If you included the non-football schools, to have the same districts in multiple sports, the cutoffs would be roughly 425, 775, 1250.

Thank you, I have been saying this for the last 10 years. But as we all know, the TSSAA has made it apparent that they are more interested in making money than making sense.

  8. I have been informed from a close source at the school that Kenny has not sponsored or taken care of Gibbs Athletics since he has left!!!!!!!! Just what I was told and think it is a shame if he has not helped out with all the $$$$$$$$ he has now.

Kenny Chesney is the biggest hypocrite on the face of the Earth. He has shot two videos at Gibbs and hasn't donated one dime to Gibbs. He blows in like a god and leaves having left nothing. He claims playing sports at Gibbs did so much for him....well he's done nothing for Gibbs but make money for himself.

Don't believe the hype, he is a self-centered person that cares nothing for those that cheered him on when no one knew who he was or even cared. As an alumni of Gibbs myself, I used to be a fan and proud of him for working hard and making a name for himself, but I could care less about him now. He care about nothing but Kenny Chesney.

Sorry for the soapbox, but he walks around and people are convinced that he does stuff for Gibbs when he doesn't.

  9. if there is three way tie and gibbs gets because of their record thats wrong. fulton and ae plays strong non district games an shouldn't be punish for that . teams like alcoa, powell, west, mo east,mo west, oothewal, catholic are a little more tougher thab grace, grainger, claiborne and cumberland gap. no disrespect to those teams, but overall wins outside the district are misleading. anywho i think the runners will get pumpt up when gibbs struts in their with their atitude and the rout will be on .

Well, take your complaint to the TSSAA, they made the rules on tie breakers and everything else. I can't help you with that.

  10. THat's a good question but hopefully, AE will take care of business and we wouldn't have to worry about that... However, let me take a stab at this, It would be Gibbs, AE, Fulton... Only because AE beat Fulton .. So no matter what Gibbs would win it..

When Gibbs beats AE, it will be a 3 way tie between Gibbs, AE, and Fulton. The first tie breaker in determining the district championship is number of wins therefore Gibbs would win the tie breaker with 9 wins.

Turtle, is AE gonna bring more than 10 fans for the game? I went to the AE/Union Co game a couple weeks ago and there was no one in the AE stands!!!

As for the game, it will be way more competitive than most will think. Its going to be a good game. As for a prediction, I've never done one but I might as the week moves on. Just ready for game night. Go Eagles!

  11. Just wondering what Powell's and Hall's strengths are this year. I know Halls has O'Laughlin, but I don't know much more about them and Powell I don't have a clue.

I was impressed with the Powell/Fulton outcome and it sounded like Powell had their way. Hall's looks a little out of sorts after the Sevier Co game. I know this game will be a battle though. Good luck to both teams.

  12. Before anybody talks about new coaches at AE, I want to say Graham is one of the best coaches in Tennessee. He did a lot of great things for his kids/coaches that most other area coaches would never do. He has sent more kids to college than any other coach in Knoxville in the past 5 years. Fulton and Catholic kids would even go to Graham after the season for help to get into school (because their coaches weren't doing anything to help). I don't think Knoxville realizes the impact of Graham leaving AE. He was also a great assett and ambassador for the school. He participated in every in-service and faculty meeting. He will compliment Joe Gaddis/ staff and continue to impact the lives of young people in North Carolina. AE is losing a great coach. I can't believe you would post that question 2 hours after he announced he was leaving.

Why would you be surprised by the question? No one questioned what he did as a coach. This forum is always swirling with rumors. I'm interested to know because AE has alot of talent coming back next year. I'm interested in who will rise to the challenge of coaching at what is historically one of the best programs in the state. I actually thought it would get more chatter because spring practice is around the corner.
