1. Wow eye popping numbers. Daniel Dayton will be licking his chops with a QB like that to throw to him. Cumberland has something going on in this signing period.

I thought Cumberland was a Wing-T team? Not much throwing going there.

I do hope they mix it up with more passing to go along with the run game. If so, it looks as if they will have a QB that can get the job done.

  2. whats up with indy's rb, how good is he, i dont know anything about him, but he seems to be a stud from what i heard, whats his height, weight, (or something close, dont have to be exact) and is he really what people say he is, (most were indy fans)

Scott Pettigrew, 6'2" 215 maybe a little heavier than that. He will run over you and by you. He has a couple of D1 schools that have made offers and a few others that soon will. A healthy Pettigrew and there will be no question that Indy wins this one by a big amount.

    35-6

  3. I watched Memphis East in week zero during the "Music City Classic" when they played Pearl Cohn (who they lost to 28-12). The Firebirds threw the ball and ran the ball at will against East but made silly mistakes in their first game. The score was 28-6 PC when the starters exited the game in the fourth period. In that game Mason threw for 180 yards & 3TDs and also ran for another TD. Gregory rushed for 110 yards while Mason added 70+ for a PC team that rushed for 250 yards on the afternoon.

That game was played at 4pm on the Saturday afternoon in week zero in temperatures that reached 95 degrees and above. PC won the game easily but should have won by much more and if those two teams were to play today the score would probably be much more lopsided.

Since that game Memphis East has fired the coaching staff. The players are without any sort of stability at the helm of their football program. East only dresses about 40 players total. Up front they are terrible. They have two quick running backs. The quarterback had a decent arm and decent mobility but I don't even know if he's the same starter because from what I heard the regular starter at QB sat out that game. The receivers are up and down and they are proned to drop a couple of balls.

All in all this will be a cakewalk for Indy as they prepare for the stretch run in the region where they really fell apart down the stretch last year.

    Independence: 42

    Memphis East: 6

Right now, the Eagles need a win. A win to get their confidence going and put them in the right mind frame for the stretch run through the rest of the region. To say this will be a "cakewalk" for Indy is a little dramatic. With only one win under their belt right now, there is no such thing as a cakewalk for Indy. Didn't East have a RB last year that was a stud but injured his knee? This dude is suppose to be a legit D1 prospect and if he is back, that is East's offense.

IF East is as bad as you make them out, then maybe this is what the doctor order for Indy to get back on track. Overall, I feel Indy will win but it will be a closer game then your blowout prediction. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the blowout score. More importantly, I want to just see the win for Indy and get this team back on track.

  4. Yeah this shows that they will play anyone anywhere or w/e but the only real challenge from looking at last year will be BA. i mean MBA had an ok season at best they put up 7 points against father ryan and only beat cpa by 7 those are teams that any 5a school should be able to get a good 10-14 point win or more on memphis east is alittle better but still looking at the teams they played last year it should be a fairly easy win. i wish a team from around here would try to schedule some1 like alcoa or maryville but you never even hear it mentioned.

The only team from "around here" - I take it you mean the middle TN area? As for Middle TN teams playing teams like Alcoa and Maryville...I believe Spring Hill (3A) is playing Alcoa this coming season.

Ask about Franklin and Father Ryan game a couple of years ago. I believe Father Ryan went into Franklin and beat them. To say that any 5A school should be able to beat MBA, BA, CPA, Father Ryan, etc....does not always hold water. Infact, that is a very weak argument. Anyone can beat anyone on any day. Those that are better prepared (mentally/physically), get the breaks in their favor, etc are the teams that win games. As for a team being private or public or 5A,4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, DII whatever....give me a break. Go work hard, prepare, execute and have fun winning...may the best team win. I'm out.

  5. Ensworth is all about easy wins. Look at their pathetic schedule from last year.

Bowers tried to say that he dropped the game because Smith left but we all know that's bologna. He would've dropped it anyway...Ensworth doesn't appear to care whatsoever about getting better, just getting wins. Fine for them--they're in for a major shock this year when they play the big boys. And I don't want to hear any nonsense about how their region schedule will be murderer's row so they need a win non-region to boost their confidence. I'd rather have a loss against a good team that my players learn from than a blowout win against a new school that inflates my players' egos. Nobody ever got better through cowardice.

Unless one of the head coaches, athletic director or whomever else signs the contracts gets a hand cramp or carpal tunnel syndrome....Independence will play Memphis East in week 5 at Indy to complete their 10 game schedule. Indy's non region opponents this year: BA, MBA, and Memphis East. I guess it is true these Eagles will not back down from any challenge. I like the stance this team is making. These Eagles truly want to be the top predator. Good luck and best wishes to Independence this year.

  6. TSSAA counts it as a varsity game, so I would. It's debatable, though.

Very debatable...Was it not close to 49-0 at the half? The second half was Indy's starters versus BA's Jv and Frosh team. All 24 points came against JV and Freshmen.

If that was IHS first Varsity game...that means Coach Smith's overall record at Indy was 8-14 or a winning percentage of .363. No wonder he got the heck out of dodge.

Is that going in your program tnsparty? Looks like Eubanks doesn't have to do much to beat that record, especially with the talent slated at Indy this year. Then again it is Region 6-5A and Coach Smith made it a tad difficult for the coach that followed him to win by putting together the toughest schedule in the state. He knew he was gone long before he made it public. He had no plans to face BA and MBA and go through the region again. Heck, he never went to the region meeting for the scheduling for this season. Claim principal would not let him or anyone from the staff go. I think Coach smith got on his eating his and drinking his Sonic tea, while all the way to East TN. As some one said earlier...what goes around comes around.

I'm .... for football to start

  7. Great post.

    QUOTE(rapbwood @ Jun 26 2007 - 03:33 PM)

Quite a few top 5A and4A teams are playing DII this year. After Week 6, a good indication will be based on the following games but I doubt it will prove anything conclusive.

    Aug. 24: BA v. Independence

    Aug. 24: MBA v. Antioch

Aug. 25: Christian Brothers v. Melrose

    Aug. 31: BA v. Ravenwood

    Aug. 31: McCallie v. Franklin

Aug. 32: Christian Brothers v. Ridgeway

    Sept. 14: BA v. Smyrna

    Sept. 14: MBA v. Hillsboro

Sept. 14: Father Ryan v. John Overton

Sept. 14: Christian Brothers v. Wooddale

    Sept. 28: MBA v. Ravenwood

    Oct. 5: MUS v. Cookeville

Also, Independence plays MBA the week following Brentwood Academy. Great matchups between 5A and DII schools this year. It will be interesting to see how they all turn out.

Maybe that winning percentage will decrease? Then again, it could increase. That is what makes this so much for fun for the fans. Most of these players could care less about winning percentages amongst 5A vs DII. They just want the opportunity to play against the best and show they are the best! Remember, these are 15-18 year old kids. It is still a game for them. For the fans, we worry and dive into all this extra stuff. Mainly, to prove our alma mater or local HS is better than someone else's. It is fun to have the bragging rights when your school defeats the other. Then its fans can stick out their chest and act like the king of the mountain. If that happens for you, great. Enjoy it to the fullest.

For all the players out there...go have fun and be the best!!

  8. Coacht,

Independence is actually located in Thompson's Station, TN. Not Franklin.

It is real close to the border of Franklin but the actual mailing address is listed as Thompson's Station, TN 37179

This changed happened about two years ago. That is all I noticed.

Thank you for all you do for HS athletics in TN.

  10. QUOTE(Bighurt @ Jun 8 2007 - 10:38 AM) 826472892Note to private/public debaters, the Hillsboro QB transferred from? I will let someone else answer.

    Shouldn't that be "Note to private/public de-haters..." /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

  11. Any results from today's action?

I heard there was a ton of speed and great players at this tournament.

Thought: maybe if TSSAA actually attended such a fun thing and saw the enjoyment these student-athletes are having that they would think twice about banning such tournaments next year. One gets a different perspective on things sitting behind a desk than actually being involved and at the event. Players love to showcase their talents to persepective coaches and to other teams. Those that play love the competition. The suits in TSSAA have lost any competition spirit they once may have had. Sad TSSAA, you are so sad. Tarnish these players dreams of competition, to measure up against other players from other states and flex the TN high school football muscle. In this humble HS football fan, you (TSSAA) are causing that muscle to become atrophy. Wake up TSSAA you are hurting your big dog sport.

Now, you are going to run the clock when a team is up by 35 or more in the fourth quarter, BUT if it gets below that then you go back to normal timing??? See link below:

  12. QUOTE(rapbwood @ May 9 2007 - 06:28 PM) 826455691I'm wondering if the 7 on 7 passing camps will be a thing of the past in 2008 due to the TSSAA restriction on practice in June? If it is, the players will have to go to these camps on their own and without the coaches. I wondering how other high schools in other states get by without these passing camps during extended dead period?

The bigger states that care about getting their players greater exposure and help them get better don't have these ridiculous restrictions. TSSAA fumbled the ball on this new rule. Are there elections or term limits in the TSSAA? It seems like Ronnie Carter and his staff have been there forever. Maybe it is time to reconsider who is incharge of HS athletics in this state.

  13. QUOTE(rapbwood @ May 6 2007 - 03:27 PM) 826452933You are correct about the Ravenwood 7 on 7 passing camp on June 16th. Response has been great as well. It's just about filled with high school teams from in and out of state.

    Ok, I'm confused...is the Rwood 7 on 7 happening or was it cancelled? /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  14. QUOTE(rapbwood @ May 6 2007 - 10:15 PM) 826453168John Lopez for Ravenwood had a great year in 2005. In 2006, he was off on the kicks beyond the twenty yard line but he was excellent in within the twenty yard line and the PAT's. How Lopez will be kicking in 2007 will be interesting and too early to know due to current soccer season play. John has the leg if can get his accuracy down for the 25-35 yard line kicks. He could be all-state if his accuracy improves within this range.

Here I go again picking an eagle from Independence...they do have some good players this year. But, I would go with Jeff Veres from IHS. He has a strong leg made a couple from 45+ yards last season.

  15. QUOTE(chsfootball2010 @ Apr 29 2007 - 11:26 AM) 826447842Both are at CHS, unsure at to start times. Several key guys are playing baseball and running track so things may be limited during the spring.

How did Centennial look under their new coach? I have heard that the Cougar faithful are excited. Any info Cougar fans on the scrimmage with Rossview?

  16. Ravenwood is hosting one on June 16. Contact Coach Rector at Ravenwood.

Vandy has one June 5 and 6. However, it may be too late to register for that one. Check with Vanderbilt football.

Those are two that I know of...hope that helps. All the best to your team. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  17. QUOTE(donathan5507 @ Apr 26 2007 - 10:21 PM) 826446473Scrimmage dates for 6-5A teams?

I believe Indy scrimmages Spring Hill and BGA on the 11th and again at Spring Hill on the 17th.

I saw on the IHS football website that the scrimmage at Spring Hill on the 17th was moved to the 18th. Just to let you all know.

Sort of anxious to see how the Eagles respond to their new head coach.

  18. QUOTE(T-Town08 @ Apr 11 2007 - 06:31 AM) 826434578I too, have heard something is going on. Miller's decision to take the offensive cord. position at Science Hill is something he chose to do on his own. He is leaving on his own terms and we wish him the best of luck. But in my mind something is going down in T-Town.

Uhh???? OC at Science Hill?? I don't think so. Scott Smith is the Head Coach and calls all the offensive plays. He may be going to join the staff there, but as OC that would be a huge surprise.

  19. QUOTE(donathan5507 @ Mar 26 2007 - 11:38 AM) 826423005Coach told me that he hasn't finalized any dates...still trying to work out scrimmages. Possible scrimmage with Wilson Central but it's looking pretty bare other than that--most schools have filled theirs in already.

Eubanks may still hire a new OC...that decision hasn't been made either.

Thanks to those Indy fans that informed me of the spring dates. First week of May they begin. A scrimmage is planned on may 11 at Indy against BGA / Spring Hill. Then May 17 they go to Spring Hill.

I'm anxious to see just how the Eubanks Era begins. I heard how much the players and parents are excited for Coach Eubanks. I hope they all get on board and support him through thick and thin.
