  1. I'm gonna make one statement on this and that is all I am going to say. I know UC is a very large 1A school. That's a fact that is no denying. We are at the top of the 1A enrollment numbers. If I were in a smaller school I would probably have a problem with this situation and would feel resentful towards the larger school. Having said that I will add this. Someone has to be the largest school. Whether it's UC or some other school. Someone has to be the smallest school whether it be CF or some other school. It may seem unfair when schools from opposite ends of the spectrum end up in the Championship game. But the reality is that both schools play in the classifications that is set up by the state. When the time comes, and it will, that UC has to move up to 2A we will do so. Until then we will play where we are classified. Now having said that I want to add one last thing. UC has only been dominant the last two years. So being a large 1A school doesn't necessarily determine success. There have been years when we got put out of the playoffs in week one. Our current success is based on this very simple fact. Our kids and our coaches have worked extremely hard to get to where we are. Open zoning or not. We haven't always been on top. There were years when we couldn't beat a 1A team with a winning record. I remember the 07 season very well. We got shut out in week one by Jackson Christian School. After that season Coach Bowling came to UC and we started turning the program around. In the 08 season we got put out of the playoffs in week 2 by McKenzie who made it to the Semis and that is where they stopped. In 09 we won our first State Championship. Remember I said it was our first championship. The next 3 seasons were average at best. Then came this group of kids we have now. And that is where all of this success has come from. This group is the first group of kids that participated in our Jr football program. Every year since they first started we have been filling the pipeline with kids that want to play football. Each grade has their own team. Some are good some are very good. The point I'm trying to make is that it's about the kids and the time you invest in them is what builds champions. We have been a large 1A school for a long time now but are only recently been dominant. I hope this makes sense. If not I can't say anymore and won't. I will not comment on this a y further because there is nothing more I can say. I will leave the rest of this discussion to you fine coachters.

Big Swo remember a few years back when we were the smallest 2A school in the classifications and had to go far and wide just to fill a 10 game schedule. there were Ky. schools 3A and 4A on the schedule. Just a thought!!!

  2. Obion Central head football coach Shawn Jackson has dismissed three players from the program for the remainder of the season and suspended a fourth for this week’s second round playoff game against Covington.

Jackson confirmed that junior linebacker Nathan Spaulding, senior receiver/defensive back Parker McMinn and senior Garrett Dunn had been removed from the team for a violation of team rules. Junior linebacker Blake Powers will sit out this week’s game as a result of a seperate incident.

A school disciplinary hearing was scheduled for this afternoon for the three players who’ll miss the remainder of the season, but Jackson said his decision will stand, regardless of that committee’s ruling.

Spaulding led the team and all of Obion County in tackles with 113 in 11 games, while McMinn has been a starter in both the secondary and at receiver for the Rebels. Dunn and Powers have seen action on special teams and as reserves.

  3. Nate, if you thought these were called badly, you should've seen the girls state tournaments!!!!!! IT WAS TWICE AS BAD! The ref's for the Fulton/Mitchell game tonight, I think, was the best crew. The Manassas/UC game was WAY TOO FAST to get every call correct in that game. Both teams DID foul alot in that game and you can't say they were biased towards either team because the fouls was 10-10 in the second half, I think. The double personal foul was called correct also. Polk had his arms rapped around Buckner somewhat and Buckner through him to the ground. I wish I would've known you were up there, we could've met up somehow..

i did not make the girls tourny but do the memphis girls flop around like so many of the memphis guys did to get ghost fouls? if teams are that good from memphis stand up and play legit ball

  4. Union City will not be close in the rebounding department. Excuses will be made after the game...Wait and see. I am like Purple, I would love to see this live up to the hype. Both are good teams and deserve to be here. But, in the end UC will not have an answer for Manassas. 80-64 Manassas.

for all the people who did not think Union City could rebound UNION CITY 53 Manassas 50

  6. Sounds good to me. Don't really know enough about 1 and 2 to give a good opinion on those regions. I totally agree with 3,4,5,6....I think Lake Co. may get a 1st round win in the last two, but that would be a guess also.

you may also want to rethink greenfield making playoffs at all not looking good for them but with their loss to union city it put them in a bad way with their schedule left @hollow rock bruceton then hosting lake co

  7. Here's Murphy's top 5. This is different from earlier posts regarding the coaches? top 10. I think it's pretty interesting that he's got a public school (from West TN) as the No. 1 team in the state. There has only been 2 public 1A teams win the championship since the 5 classification system began in '93 (Trousdale Co. and S. Pitt.). Oh and the last time a public school from West TN won the 1A championship was '89. And that was none other than Bruceton.

    Murphy's Preseason 1A Top 5:

    1. Bruceton

    2. Friendship Christian

    3. Gordonsville

    4. Hampton

    5. Mt. Pleasant

murphy didn't exactly have them #1 i believe he listed top 5 in pre season in alphabetical order in all classes
