Just heard from Phil's wife that he is out of surgery and everything went well. Now time for recovery.
-
Phil Davidson, coach at Father Ryan, is undergoing surgery today. He will be off the field for several weeks. Please keep him in your prayers.

I agree, many talented players have made the decision to put their efforts into the academic area. Many academic requirements (i.e. nursing) make it most difficult to participate in a varsity sport and remain qualified for the rigors of the major, most notably on a Division I level. I would imagine there are some outstanding intramural softball games! There is no right or wrong decision.

BGA is the winner in the BGA/Ryan game. TSSAA considered it complete. The game between BGA and BA will begin at 4pm at Ryan.
I believe any of the coaches of the BGA, Ryan or BA would have reacted similarily to the Ryan coach, as coaches get excited this time of year! Trying for that extra inning, trying some game-delay tactics, and so on....it's what coaches do. If coaches didn't, wouldn't we be bored? I'm not necessarily agreeing with his move, but appreciate his effort for his team.

BGA, Ryan and BA all will go to state. Seedings aren't that big of a deal?

From the Olympic Executive Commission in August 2002: "Softball: Participation on a global level was reviewed, and it was concluded that softball is popular in certain countries, but this popularity is not reflected throughout entire regions or continents. This has resulted in relatively low global broadcast and press levels. In addition, the high cost of venue construction for the Olympic competition was noted. In particular this is caused by the need for softball-specific venues for competition and training, and the fact that due to the relatively low global particiation, there are few cities having existing venues at the required level, or a demand for the use of such venues following the Games. As a result of these considerations, the Commision recommends the exclusion of softball from the Programme of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad."
It was also recommended to exclude baseball and modern pentathlon. The softball community worldwide is being asked to voice their displeasure with the Program Commission's recommendation, via the IOC website. From www.olympic.org, fans, players, coaches, umpires, and all of those connected to the sport can click on Public Suggestions and complete the electronic forms that will allow them to register their support of softball in the Summer Games.
Sorry for the length of this post, but its important for softball!!
