  1. Wow! Isn't she the starting post guard?

Looks like Wayne County's best chance to win the District is to have Morris as the coach of Summertown.

Byrd has never beat Morris in a Championship game (I think o-3) and is only (I think) 4-11 in five years vs him while he was at Collinwood. Someone might want to check those numbers. Maybe we should hope they don't face in the championship this year.

  2. We heard that down here yesterday as well. Was told that she was upset that morris did not start her during their playday at martin, and to make matters worse, morris had apparently commented to someone that she wouldn't start all this year. He had already told some people in collinwood that he was going to shake it up at summertown because some of the younger girls were better than the older girls. Its morris, so its not a real surprise.

Is smith going to transfer? We heard she might be going to Lawrence County?

Smith did quit, but the problem involved a conflict in the locker room on Tuesday with her teammates. Morris used different lineups at Martin with different players starting all games. It's preseason. As far as the comments, not true either. Summertown will be fine. Sounds like Collinwood has enough problems to worry about instead of spreading false information about another school. Know all the facts before you post.

  3. We had heard here in Collinwood that coach morris was going to be the head coach. has he decided that he didn't want the job or they just want to consider everyone that is interested?

we also heard that some of the girls on the team have decided not to play this year and will be focusing solely on either volleyball or softball. i don't know how true that is but with willard gone, they would need someone special to keep that program where it has been the past ten years or so. i don't see how you could get a real high quality coach with the school year already started.

morris isn't a bad coach, despite what some here say about him. he just might be the very best option for Summertown. good luck to them on finding a coach.

Word is Coach Trotter wants to coach both teams for one year only. Morris still wants the job. I heard the final decision could be between those two, but not sure. The decision may be if Trotter is allowed to coach both. I don't think Trotter has ever coached girls.

  4. The story was on the front page of the Wayne County News several weeks ago. He and a former teammate, Tanner Jones, were arrested for having road signs in the back of Jone's truck. I don't think they have went to court yet.

  5. Guard Andrews and Daniel with double and triple teams and make the others beat you. Andrews and Daniel force a lot of shots when double and triple teamed not passing to teammates or each other when open. The rest can score if given the ball. ( Ask Perry County.) Also be able to handle their pressure fullcourt. They have not played well the last two games going 0 and 2. They might need to look in the rear view mirror for the Lady Cats of Wayne County who have been on a roll since losing to Collinwood a few weeks back. WC has looked the better of the two teams lately.

  6. Hollywood, as fans we can have any opinion as we sit in the stands that we want, but our opinion don't amount to a hill of beans. That is why were in the stands. You failed to list the number of minutes in the 4th quarter. Would be interesting to see how much time they forced Wayne County to chase them. Nine minutes of the 24 possible minutes thru three quarters sounds pretty good if your ahead. Looks like they are doing pretty good with that game plan with a record of 27-4. I hear that Moore Co. did the same thing holding the ball. Wait, they won also! I'm sure that no coach cares what I think or any other fan thinks, but it is always funny to hear us give opinions that most of the time give no clue about how a particular sport should be played. As fans we always provide a good laugh every now and then. By the way, congratulations to the Lady Dawgs from Gleason.

  7. There was no flyer sent out by the Collinwood coach that I am aware of. Where ever that information came from is completely 100% false. Most coaches do not beg for votes. If a player is good enough they will be known. Sportswizard, as do we all, you need to be 100% positive on something before making a post.

  8. Miss Basketball should be the best player all around in the state in each division. She should be great at all fundamental parts of the game, be a leader on and off the floor, and be the best in the classroom. In single A, Kayla Hudson fits all of the above. Can the others listed on this thread say the same? Sure the others listed can score most nights, but scoring does not make you the best. She can take over a game when needed, just ask Collinwood. She has teammates that understand their role, and that's why their undefeated. Also look at who the listed players play and what each player does vs good teams. It is easy to score vs teams that are 0 and whatever, but what do they do vs teams that are good? Let's face it, most of the time the winner is not the one who fits all of the above. Politics is involved, coaches sending out flyers begging for votes, and a lot of votes going to the person who is averaging the most points. If things are done right, Kayla Hudson will be Miss Basketball in Single A.

  9. Hedgehog, you brought up something good with the conflict sometimes with AAU conflicting with high school practice or team camps. High school is about the team, not the individual, so if there is a high school practice or team camp at the same time as an AAU practice or tournament, which one do you think the player should attend? Should the player skip out on their teammates, which then causes friction, and attend AAU? Should the coach punish for this? You can see why coaches don't like travel ball. Again, high school is about the team. If a kid is the best point guard or post, etc., on the team, why then should a high school coach play them at another position that does not give them as good a chance of winning? If a player is told that their role on their AAU team is to spot up and shoot the three, that may be the opposite of what is expected of them on their high school team for the team to be successful. Then players and parents don't understand the difference. The goal in high school is to try to win by doing what's best for the team, not the individual. You won't find any coach that is only concerned about just one individual and not the team. Its not the name on the back of the uniform that's important, it's the name on the front.

  10. For anyone who thinks that it is the AAU coach that develops the player into a good player, you need to get out from under that rock. Sure, they want to take credit when the player goes to college, but face it, practing a couple times a week (vs practicing 10 to 11 months with their high school team) and playing some tournaments in the summer does not make a good player. Also the player must work on their on to be great. Also, a player that might be the best player in their district or region (at any level) might be the 9th or 10th best player on their AAU team. AAU coaches should win when they can pick the best 10 players in the state or surrounding states year after year. I bet high school coaches would love to be able to do that. There is no team concept in AAU, period. The high school coaches that are good ones will tell you that they could care less about AAU.

  11. Like I have told people all year, West Carroll is an average ball team. Webb cannot play if someone gets physical with him. They are not strong at the guard position and they are weak off the bench. Their weak district schedule has them overrated. Huntingdon would have a chance to win Friday if 1. someone pounds on Webb, 2. plays team ball and takes smart shot selections, and 3. pressures the ball. These things probably won't happen, so West Carroll wins by 15. The region should be a good one to watch to see how good West Carroll really is.

  12. Get real. 45 vs Clarksburg? Look, until he shows he can do this vs a power house, then this does not make him Mr. BBall. As far as other players not having big numbers vs weaker teams, their teams might be so far ahead that they are on the bench long before it is over. I've watched Webb play for four years now and contrary to what gomab2 thinks, he is a good player, but not a great one. I know he signed with a big college, but being 6'9 gets a little attention. He better be thankful that he is able to knock down some from outside because he is not strong enough to play inside. The games he played vs Hillsman from Huntingdon the previous three years, he was pushed all over the floor and unable to stop him. Hillsman was about 6'1. Again, not saying Webb is not any good, just not great like a few people think.

  13. All this proves is what most people already know, and that is that the TSSAA has no clue when it comes to making the right decisions. The kids are never cosidered. It has been and will always be about how much money the TSSAA can make. If it wasn't for the kids then there would be no money, thus no TSSAA. That is to easy for the TSSAA to understand.

  14. Big win for Milan. Big loss for Huntingdon. A couple of things good point to Huntingdons loss, bad defense and bad play calling, but I wonder if part of the problem with the two defeats this year can be blamed on the fact that everyone assumed that going in to this year Huntingdon was going to repeat as state champions. You can be too confident, which can affect how you prepare. I'm not saying they have not worked hard. I'm saying that when you win the state as easy as they did and are suppose to have better talent back, sometimes you forget how you got to the top to begin with. Pressure is another key. Yhe pressure that was on this group of kids coming into the season was huge. When you hear every day by the community that tou are expected to repeat, a huge amount of pressure is placed on you. Right now, the players and the coaches are not handling the pressure. My advice, see what needs to be fixed and try to fix it, and just relax a little and have fun playing the game.
