  1. I think the discussion had moved from the rankings by tnmat and tnranker to the AP poll that uses some coaches opinions. The real question posed was, "who votes?"; meaning which coaches vote.

I guess Luther Killian would be able to answer that question.

  2. Let's be clear on all these new rankings, there only purpose is to generate interest in this sport. They create discussion, entertainment and thought. Since this is an open message board anyone can rank. tnmat seems to be knowledgable about the sport, tnranker has no real creditials, but that is of no real concern. Do these rankings really mean anything outside the coachT forum? Would a coach try to seed a wrestler based on tnmat vs. tnranker? I hope for the intelligent coach, the answer is no.

  3. Don't ask about who votes in the coaches poll, I asked that 2 years ago and got majorily beat up about it...

    Beat up??

This poll has been in existance for 11 years. I don't think this has ever been a secret organization. The poll is made up of coaches from all over the state in both divisions.

  4. There is always the arguement that if it was that important you would have been there. We will never know! The Great Snow Out of 1996!

On paper it was close, but that dosen't count. I wish we had had the opportunity to know for sure. I am not sure the finish was the way it would have been if everyone had been there.

  5. If you go back to the late 80's wrestling coaches were not allowed to work out with their teams in the off season. When the Sports' Fest was created in 1990, there was a push to have all sports in this event. Part of the rationale was that freestyle was different and this allowed coaches to open their rooms for kids to workout. Since that time there have been mutiple warnings that the "no restrictions" for wrestling could be removed.

There have been some TWF events that have been folkstyle.

As far as Georgia is concerned, do AAU and USA Wrestling work together? I have been informed, NO.

The most courteous response I have for your post is that you and most of those involved with the Tennessee Wrestling Federation are Out Of Touch with the interests of wrestlers, coaches and parents in Tennessee. That is the exact reason why the TWF has never and will never receive widespread support.

    Your post said.......

It is my understanding that TSSAA does not want the athletes continuing folkstyle post state tournament, thus USA promotes freestyle to comply with rulings. Freestyle & Greco is the olympic style of wrestling and typically seen at the college level. They simply build from the foundation of folkstyle to move the athlete into freestyle & greco.

Are you the hired Spin Doctor of the TWF? Show me where I can find any information that the TSSAA does not want athletes continuing to wrestle Folkstyle. That is silly. Why would the TSSAA take a stand against one style in favor of another? That's like telling Track athletes that if they compete in post-season events, they have to run backwards or telling golfers that anyone who is right handed can play but it has to be left handed. I can assure you...there may be someone in the ranks of the TSSAA that does not favor post-season participation but that's as far as it will ever go. If they venture into wrestling that also opens the questions about summer track, baseball, basketball, swimming and golf.

The only people who ever bring this up are the Freestyle people.

About the rest of your post...you are way off base on Team Georgia also. (More TWF/Freestyle spin doctoring)

You are right and wrong about Team Georgia. They DO have a great organization and are miles ahead of Tennessee. However, you are TOTALLY WRONG in saying they "move kids" into Free and Greco. TG is basically a Folkstyle organization. Sure, there are some kids who compete in Freestyle and Greco, but the bulk of the kids do not, have not and will not "move" in to Free and Greco.

If the TWF is ever going to take off in Tennessee as TG has done in Georgia, then the focus will have to be shifted to Folkstyle. It will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER happen with the focus on USA Freestyle. The pool of Folkstyle wrestlers in Tennessee is in the thousands. On the other hand, the TWF is supporting and promoting a style that has a pool of available wrestlers that is in the low hundreds at best.

There is certainly nothing wrong with Freestyle and Greco but the interest of the masses is in Folkstyle. You may respond to that by pointing out that there are thousands of entries every year in Fargo. I will respond by saying IF there was only a few major Folkstyle tournaments every year, there would be tens of thousands wrestlers at each event. There are dozens of "National" Folkstyle events every year along with hundreds upon hundreds of local and regional tournaments and still people complain there are not enough.

  6. I think this opening a can of worms that goes beyond the scope of what many understand.

Second rate tournaments from a second rate organization. Looks like total CRAP to me.

Wow......WHAT a positive influence in this Sport we love so much....I don't Like YOUR alphabet letters....so I'm gonna Poop on them --Nyah Nyah--

WHAT a way to encourage kids to get ALL the competition they can. :o

  7. Call Ronnie Carter.

Multiple Contests: In all individual sports (cross country, golf, track and field, tennis, and

wrestling) individuals accompanied by a coach may enter varsity competition at different sites at the

same time and date, and this will count as two dates on the schools' schedule.

Maybe I am misinterpreting this. I copied and pasted directly from the TSSAA constitution. Not my paraphrasing...Actual rule

  8. Not really. If there is a representative from a school at an individual contest and the school has representatives at another varsity event, then this would be considered a violation

According to the handbook, in the section on frequently asked questions, a school may only have one varsity team in each sport. If there are two varsity tournaments on the same day, then only the varsity team would be allowed to enter in one of the tournaments.

However, the Knox Catholic tournament is considered an individual tournament. This is definately different than having two football teams from the same school going to two different varstiy games.

  9. The answer is still no.

I did check my TSSAA regulations. On page 26, it states that "In all individual sports, (wrestling is listed), individuals accompanied by a coach may enter varsity competition at different sites at the same time and date, and this will count as two dates on the schools' schedule."

I don't believe that TSSAA would waver from NFHS policy regarding this.

It looks as if Smyrna will be able to participate in both events.

  10. Once again, why should Overton be considered to have strong team? You mention 3 people, others mention most are gone and other teams should be stronger!

    Posted by toughasnails:

You all have it wrond, Overton still has alot of young guys coming in that are good. They have Little Brewster, and Little Drinkwine to led the way. They have Darnell Hayes in the upper weights to show the younger guys how to get it done. They have always had good young talent to come in

  11. Don't know about Crosby, Brugal(Bolton) wrestled in the National Open and the Southeast Regionals and placed and also wrestled in the FILA Jr. Trials. Brugal has been active, might make for a great match-up if the two ever meet again.

Did the Crosby kid(man) wrestle and during the off season, and if so where?
