  1. The CCHS - Cookeville football game has been moved across the street to Martin Elementary. It will now kick off at 5:30 pm. The field conditions at CCHS are not safe for play at this time.

The Jets have two weeks before their next home game vs. Warren Co. Everything will be fine by then.

Why is the game starting at 5.30 pm? Does the field have lights? Seating capacity? Not sure about playing on a junior high/elementary school field. Just was not sure what to expect.

  2. I know their record against Coffee County, apparently you don't. Cookeville and Jerry Joslin always know they have their hands full with CC. Warren County will suprise some people this year. Is there anyone who is actually from Cookeville who wants to comment on this thread?

Over the past 5 seasons, Cookeville has won 4 out of the last 5 games against Coffee Co. Their overall record is 43-17 with a 72% winning percentage. They have made it too the 2nd and 3rd round of the state playoffs 4 seasons and lost the games to the eventual state champs 3 times ( Oakland, Smyrna and Riverdale ).

  3. Congradulations to the Cookeville Cavs on their performance this past weekend. I think the team has made the great strides over the past 5 years and now they are starting to see positive results from their hard work. Coach Cook has done a outstanding job at building up the program and the Cav fans appreciate his effort.

    GO CAVS!

By the way, hats off to the Cavaliers they played a sound game!

I do have a question for Cookeville fans, though.

Was the crowd last night a typical crowd for Cookeville games because there sure were alot of people there?

I also was pretty impressed with the student section and what I guess is a ROTC club in the endzone that shot off the cannon. Everybody that wore Cookeville colors sure showed that they have alot of pride in their school.

Homecoming alway's tends to pack the stadium, but most of the seats are usually full. Community/Student pride and support continues to grow each year, as the program continues to improve. Coach Joslin has done a terrrific job of building Cookeville's football program. Congratulations to the Cavs on a solid game performance Friday night. I also want to commend the group that set up the halftime fireworks, very impressive. Now the Cavs need to get ready for MUS next week, a very long road trip to say the least. Go Cavs!

  5. The Cavs looked good last night. Overall, a solid performance from the defense. Offensively, the running game was solid and Espinosa and Hennigan did a good job at QB. To many wide open dropped passes from the receivers, but that can be fixed. Not sure on how good we can become until we get tested, but it looks good so far. Lebanon next week for the Cavs and they will definitely be looking for a win, so the Cavs need to be ready.

    Go CAVS

  6. Congrats to Lincoln Co. on their win. I hated to see the Cavs lose this one, but it was not meant to be last night. Coach Thompson runs a quality program and is a tough competitor. I have a question, did anyone understand the call against Cookeville that appeared to be called a chop block on the defense? I did not think you can call a chop block on the defense. I am almost certain that it what the official signaled on the field. Did I get this wrong or did the official misinterpret the rule book?

  7. The Cavs pulled off another comeback win last night, with the OT win. Exciting and a well played game. The offside penalties got a little out of hand, but the calls went both ways. I was impressed with the MUS team and they appeared to be well coached. A good close game that could have gone either way.Congrats to the Cavs on the victory.

  8. Looking at the recent history on this game, it looks like this series is close almost every year.

Overall 4 and 4 over the last 8 games. Should be another hard hitting game.

  9. The best policy is to not talk to parents at all. As for boosters, most think hard work equals playing time. If you feel it is necessary to talk to a parent, playing time is off limits and so is play calling. Most parents have nothing to talk about when you eliminate these two topics. These topics are for a player and his coach only. One on one in private.

One of the best coaches in the state will tell you that if you want discuss playing time or play calling, he will be glad to discuss it with the parent and then remove the player from the team, period. I have never heard of a parent questioning his coaching abilities. This has worked for over ten years now and I never even thought about questioning the coaches decisions.

  10. Cookeville played their starters all night against Franklin Co.,and they came out flat. They were not mentally prepared to play at all. They had some chances to win and just did not get it done. Not sure which team will show up against Lavergne Friday night, but it looks like Lavergne is on a roll and may be bad news for the Cavaliers.

  11. Not with that kind of defense. Keep in mind that the teams in 3-5A get paired with teams in 4-5A come playoff time. Do you know who plays in 4-5A?? Smyrna, Riverdale, Lebanon, Wilson Central--teams that would most likely cream anybody in 3-5A.

Cookeville has done well against 4-5A teams over the past few years. The Cavs come up against Lebanon next week, so maybe they will not get "creamed" to bad by the blue devils.
