  1. i am sure those are some great coaches but difficult to be average? difficult to reach the playoffs 4 times in 11 years? Really?

I'm not a rocket scientist champ......but considering there are 10 games in a high school season.......looks to me like Sycamore made the playoffs at least 6 times, maybe more if they happened to play a 9 game regular season.

  2. With great sadness, I must report that a great man and great coach has passed. I could post this in football, basketball, and baseball because; he was without doubt the best coach ever in all sports. Coach Gerald Johnson was a players coach and a coaches coach.................he was also my best friend, and what little that I know in coaching came from him.

Coach Johnson had been suffering from alzeheimer's and passed this morning (10-14).

He was one of the greatest athletes in BGA history in all (3) sports, and then continued that tradition as being one of the greatest in all (3) sports at MTSU (that is amazing by itself). My first recollection of him was a warm Aug morning at Antioch HS in 1958; when he became MY coach and MY best friend for the next 50+ years..............he also became my mentor as a young football coach and gave me the basis for all that I tried to be as a coach.

Coach Johnson was the "pied piper"...............he touched so many young people in the schools that he taught at Glencliff, Antioch, Central, Maplewood, Brentwood (he was their first head coach in all (3) sports........again amazing), Ryan, and finally at Cheatham Co.

I will miss my best friend, but he has left a fantastic legacy in all the lives that he has touched

*note services will be at Woodlawn this weeks (details to follow)

Coach Johnson was a leader of men. His philosphy and competitive nature has graced and will continue to grace young men and women for generations to come. We often overlook the HS coach as we remember the Bear Bryants of the world.........Gerald Johnson was a GIANT among coaches...

Deepest Sympathies to Mrs. Eloise and family.........he loved you all so much and I can remember that wry smile everytime he spoke of his family. A proud man.....an example......rest in peace Coach. You are loved.

  3. If Stratford's best coach (winning % wise) couldn't beat Cheatham County then I highly doubt that today's staff couldn't get the job done :flower:

Are you seriously bragging on a losing record and a playoff win??? you continue to crack me up. Like i said yal will never beat a Metro team, matter of fact tell your coach to schedule one this summer , thats what you do... yall will never compare to metro speed... AND Marshall COUNTY Really??? no where near the caliber of players in metro. sorry to burst your bubble got but just cause you look up stats doesnt give you a clue. And aw yea for the record the 2003 season wasnt tainted, but the 2004 season those kids didnt play until we was up by 30.. just give up guy and talk to some coaches at the rec center where your opinion matters... you feel like you have some authority cause your the GET BACK GUY on the sidelines on fridays nights.....L_O_S_E_R!!!!

Umm......Cheatham County, good or bad, has a winning record vs all metro school with the exception of whites Creek. Check the records. Stratford played more homecomings in the 90's than Vanderbilts bands........lol

  4. First off Jason Smith has put more than 30 football players in college. They might not still be playing but the fact he got them in college is a plus. The down fall of Stratford came when they seperated from East Lit. For the past two years the East Lit team would have been starting at Stratford. So I would love to go see any coach pull out a 8-2 record with 25 sophmores and 3 seniors and 5 juniors..... Stratford will turn their program around this years, and other than East seperation its hard when you have your neighborhood school trying to recruit your players every year from Stratfords feeder schools. And Ralph Thompson a good coach??? Thats the Joke.... This guy went 0-10 two years straight but ppl forget about that.. They should be good mind you that at least 10-15 of their players has came from the Stratford zone or HUntersLAne.

Jason Smith.....nor any other coach "puts" kids in college. Grades, ability, and college coaches sign kids.

Quit whining and deal with reality......................average

  5. Should 2 and 3 sport athletes lift? Are boobs good? Some things are life do not require an answer. Full squats done properly are the most vital of all lifts any athlete can do. They increase hip explosive power which is vital for jumping in basketball and is vital in baseball hitting and pitching as well as for speed development in every sport. You can only get faster two way and squats are vital in developing one of them: stride length. Quarter and half squats do not develop this nearly as well though, they do not allow as much work to be done in the hips due to the lessened motion involved. Also to the MYTH that working out upperbody will destroy a basketball shot, of course it will if your kid is only lifting and never in the gym. Some of workout best friends play D1 basketball and they still lift upperbody. If you have no work ethic then sure big upperbody workouts will be negative but then again if you dont want to put in the time in the gym why lift? A good scientific based workout from a reputable source is always beneficial.

I dont know about all that other stuff.........but Im gonna have to give a BIG thumbs up to BOOBS!!! :bored:

  6. don't be thinking you folks in cheatham county got the corner on quality education! us folks in hickman county won't be out done. just read in the hickman county times where the director of schools has done announced that east hickman high school will be renamed east hickman a & m.

he stated that the school needed to get back to its roots of growin things and building fine race cars. he went on to state that due to not meeting AYP goals (that's annual yearly participation)the school's punt, pass and kick team would be disbanded. which is a shame cause we were gettin reel good at the puntin part!

he went on to tell folks not to worry about the beeeutiful facilities goin to waste cause we are gonna take our part of the race to the top money and build a monster truck-tractor pull course on the field and build a proper bank in turns 2 and 3 on the track so they can run without restrictor plates when they host go-cart races on friday nights

Oh no!.............you boys aint got no tractors like we gots in Cheatham! Thats Bull!...........better daycares though...........dont they teach MMA at the daycares in Hickman County?

  7. Boys boys........enough of your bellyaching!!!

Vanderbilt has now also signed on to be governed by the Cheatham County School Board........citing in the Tennessean,

"We don't win either......and obviously Cheatham County is headed in that direction. Their taking point in the new High School destruction program (its an Obama thing......you wouldnt understand) has led us to believe that the powers that be in the Cheatham County Central office........sober or not.......will lead ourselves and all of Middle Tennessee into the............what century is it?"

Official spokes person for Cheatham County School System.......Transportation Director Hopalong Holliday said, "Thanky much"...............then he ate a biscuit.

  8. I hear the school board is considering a Charter School for the kids in Cheatham County. Supposedly it will be an athletic charter school, only allowing kids in who want to play sports. Academically inclined children can either go to Cheatham Central.....which is changing its name to Cheatham County School for Arts and Entertainment and Deer Skinnin.........or to Sycamore HS which will henceforth be known as The Polytechnical Institute of Sycamore International School for the Really Smart People.

Harpeth will remain Harpeth, but specialize in Bus Driving.

Any truth to all of this?

  9. Pro baseball players NEVER work out..........ever..........not in a million, gillion, years. MLB loves skinny, players that have no power and cant throw hard........they LOVE IT!!!!! And the NBA, those guys dont have an ounce of muscle anywhere on them..........Labron looks like he is malnourished.

Yep, weights are a bad thing........you never want athletes in any sport to be bigger, faster, and stronger..........that would just be stupid.
