  1. Like the question that I posed earlier:  Did the official or BGA coaching staff try to get the Bishop Byrne coach to play the overtime?  I think that the official waned to get a shower and drink several cold sodas and the BGA staff was looking for their 1st win of the season any way possible.  This is really a sad situation that could have been prevented if handled properly.

I seriously hope you aren't trying to say that BGA had anything at all to do with Byrne leaving the field. If the BGA staff could have played the game, they would have played the game.

Even if the officials did want to "drink cold sodas," it doesn't matter. They aren't there to give opinions about the rules--instead they are there to enforce them.

BGA shouldn't have any say in what Bishop Byrne decides to do. If Byrne wants to quit and leave the field without fulfilling its obligation, it is entitled to do that. Only I hope the TSSAA penalizes them to the fullest extent- so an example can be made for schools that might consider this venture to keep from losing a game in the future. The guy at Byrne can't use ignorance of a rule as an excuse. Ignorance is, in fact, not bliss.

I think you need to re-work your sentence, because it sounds like you are saying BGA could have prevented this from happening. I think not.

  2. Oh god, give me a break. , the coach for byrne made a decision to not keep playing a game. so from here on out that win for bga will go down with an asterisk next to it. he tied them in regulation. he didn't want to risk injury or a loss. you football guys may not know this, but once, only a few years back, college teams tied. What you say? There was no winner? That's right, gentlemen, no one wins. Ties are common in soccer and other sports also. The Byrne coach can take this phantom "loss" and point to it as a great game against BGA, a team they usually can't stay on the same field with. So as you ultra-competitive, I-ain't-a-quitter-and-neither-is-my-football-team chuckleheads argue over whether this football coach should be fired or not, remember that no one in the real world really cares about the actions of a high school coach concerning a game between two teams who are going no where this season.

california, what is your problem? First, it doesn't matter how good either team is or where they are going...if you are going to agree to play a game, then you should finish the game. Under no circumstances should a team just walk-off. It's not in the spirit of the game. Period. The coach at Byrne does have some serious explaining to do to the BGA staff and to its alumni and fans--especially those that paid admission to watch a game completed under the rules of the TSSAA.

In response to that guy wha said all they wanted to do was prove they could hang with a team like BGA....Byrne did prove something. It proved that it doesn't take much courage to settle for a tie and say "well, we tied them, we might have won." It doesn't take any courage at all not to play overtime. I hope they had fun on the bus because those kids didn't learn anything about how life is really played out on a daily basis by leaving the field.

  3. Brad Myers at BGA is great with the Fungo...He bats an astounding .762 when facing his left arm's toss up....That is a joke, by the way...I have no idea WHAT his Fungo BA is, but I bet it's great!

Seriously- there is nothing like watching infield!

    GO WILDCATS!

  4. I don't think that Harding Academy, SBA, ECS, and Briarcrest belong in the second highest classification.

SBA is horrible in football...look at their previous years and determine it for yourself.

These teams could compete, but I think the fourth classification would be better.

Back when everyone played together, these schools were class A and Class AA out of 5 classifications...I think that would still be fair today.

Heck, putting SBEC at 3A? That's plain crazy...Mustang, you should take your medication:)...

  5. Who cares about UT. I hate UT with everything that I have in me. I rooted for FSU when UT won the Nat'l Championship in '98. I will continue to root for the opposing team. The way I look at it, UT is overrated and have always been overrated. I am a hard-core Vandy fan. Vandy WILL one day beat UT again. It has been 24 years since it has happened way back in '79, but it will happen. You do not recieve an education at UT. Take for instance, some politician running for City Councilman in Old Hickory, TN, claims to be retired from the NFL after playing only 1 season with the Chargers, graduated from UT, goes to vote and doesn't even get to vote for himself because he doesn't even know how to use a voting machine. My 10 year-old sister knows how to use a freaking voting machine. If I graduated from UT, I wouldn't tell people because of the bad reputation they have. UT stinks!!!! Go Vandy, UF, South Carolina, UK, UGA, ALabama, Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississppi State and every one except UT!!!!

Ok, buster...you relly named some classy institutions in there, pal...I am sorry you hate UT so much, but at least Tennessee has good football, basketball, and baseball....Lipscomb can't claim any of those. You had good basketball until y'all stabbed Meyer in the back.

Anyway, also, McCallie is a boarding school....

  6. Oxymoron...and what a fine example it was.

    WaCo  JaCo

I don't know if there are any oxymorons here...

    a few examples of oxymorons...

    Jumbo Shrimp

    Sanitary Sewage

A short list...plenty more oxymorons out there! Let's all post our favorite oxymorons!

  7. "Judges...can we accept that answer......Ohhh, I'm sooo sorry Bill73. but that's not an answer that added anything to the board...We have some lovely parting gifts for you on your way back to the middle school playground..."

Guys, TSSAA voted for the logical decision.  I know some of you guys from smaller schools want a title so badly that you are willing to do anything for it...but would you sacrifice competition to win a title?  Would you be willing to remove all the good teams that are out there so that you win a "championship?"  By your posts on here, it looks as if that is exactly what you are doing...you want the road to Murfreesboro paved with patsies, not good competitive teams.  Right now the road is a tough one to travel, and all these streetlights emitting green light of envy don't help things much...Play teams and play them the best you can...if you lose, then you know you gave your all- and that, my friends, is what sports and more importantly competing are all about.

So why are the privates complaning, move up and give your kids this valuble lesson, I feel the privates are the ones who are afraid of having to face equal competition. Why do you think they are the ones dominating this whole debate. They don't want to face comparable compitition. Is it not so funny how they are so concerned about the small publics learning a valuble lesson.

I agree with at least a part of your post...I have never liked classifications at all...we should only have THREE in Tennessee anyway...A, AA, AAA...I think you were successful in one area- perverting my logic.

Look people, the whole reason we are in this mess is same reason that American society is in shambles...everyone want a totally equal playing field...TOTALLY equal, and everyone wants laws, legislation, etc. to take away advantages that other people have sacrificed and worked hard for...

  8. wesvoles & itchme

so tell me this, what message did gluepasture & lipscum send to their kids when they jumped back from d-2 to d-1, to AVOID tough competition?

First of all your disrespect is almost laughable but really quite sad...you don't see private school people making fun of public schools, their kids, or their school names.

Secondly they didn't "jump back from d2 to d1". They never went d2 because they like most private schools in Tennessee don't have any or very many kids on financial aid. Get it right or shut it up.

    Ticked off BC signing off...

Goodpasture was in D-II and then moved back down to D-I...David Lipscomb was never in D-II...I am just clarifying what you posted BC. I agree with you 100%!

  9. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"Judges...can we accept that answer......Ohhh, I'm sooo sorry Bill73. but that's not an answer that added anything to the board...We have some lovely parting gifts for you on your way back to the middle school playground..."

  10. It is inevitable that the public school community must remove itself from the TSSAA. Regardless of the creative math by the TSSAA and the private sector, actually one in the same, the majority of members wanted a split.

The worst part, the TSSAA is cheating my kids. I know, better coaching in the private sector is the reason they win. They work harder. How many championships have David Martin and Scott Smith won at private schools? (At least 3) What about their public school tenures (0). What was their record? You don't want to know. I went to a public school and I'm smart enough to figure that out.

You, sir, are speaking with your heart and passions and not with your brain. The TSSAA is not cheating your kids...Might I remind you that the PUBLIC schools have the control of the Legislative Council at TSSAA? Do I need to remind you that they voted as a board should- based on the good for the whole group? Your "kids" are being cheated out of a good life lesson that things aren't always easy when their coach gets on a message board and whines about being cheated. Do you feel cheated when congress doesn't vote the way the majority of Americans feel?

Lazurus, can you avoid the second-grade tactic of spelling things in an insulting fashion and join our grown-up conversation.

Bill73, first, recruiting wasn’t allowed in D-II when goodpasture was in and it isn’t now…but…whether they recruited or not, the moment they went to Division I they had to take all the financial aid away from athletes since that is not allowed. You obviously don’t understand what is going on here.

And also Bill, for your records, Lipscomb was never in Division II, so if they recruited, then they did it in D-I. If you can prove it then turn them in…if not, keep quiet!

Everyone tries to make the private schools of Tennessee look like the Nazis invading Poland…when it all boils down to the truth, this should all be about lessons learned on the field…and the lesson learned is ultimately that everyschool is not going to be a winner…for one reason or another, there will be schools that aren’t as good as others, but turning this into a finger pointing contest is wrong. These whining people need to look in the mirror and figure out what the problem really is…

Let’s all just play together and stop all this “It’s my ball so that’s why I am going home” crap.

  11. ok, they moved for a church. they moved across the street. ok ok. Bottom line, they are in MS and shouldn't be allowed to play in T$$AA, period. That isn't to take anything away from the win. I give them all the congrats in the world for a job well done. But, they should play MS.

Look, if just over the border is ok, then what about 5 miles. What about 10.. 20 .. 30? Just use the borders of the state. simple.

Panfan, that is the most backward logic....

  12. well i guess your sorry education never taught you about using a pun to further emphasize the true meaning of what you are trying to say.

Primetime, first, I wouldn't jump to calling Commish's education sorry, because, frankly, I went to the same school as he did. I think you might have/are as well.

    Anyway, HOW BOUT 'DEM 'CATS?

    1960, 66, 95, 97, 98, 2001, 03

Revenge might be the sweetest thing around...or as Rebel once said, "Revenge is a dish best served cold."

    GO BGA!

  13. um, yea!! T$$AA football is basically silly. The fact that a MS team has a championship is just an ! to that. 8 divisions is a joke, but we all know who to blam for that -- Vador. However, if the T$$AA could maintain control of its schools and attempt to be a voice of reason, we wouldn't have this problem.

Is Arkansas in the Southeast? No...Then why are they in the SEC? Why is La Tech in the Western Athletic Conference? Association is not simply decided by geography or what region you are in...SBEC is closer to Memphis schools than they are to MS schools...Their membership has nothing to do with the "T$$AA" as you call it. If anything, TSSAA probably lost money on the Class A Clinic Bowl.

You guys need to back off of the TSSAA...unless you can back up your claims, which I seriously doubt that you can. Some people justa ren't satified with anything these days...TSSAA does have control Panfan...and they are trying to moderate between all these whinig coaches and administrators to keep this state from making a rash decision it will just regret later...
