  1. The TSSAA should let a team like Red Boiling Springs play a non-region schedule. As I understand it, if they do that for football, they can't play in the postseason in any sport. Get the FCS and Trousdales off the schedule at least for a few years, play teams that are just starting programs or others that haven't had a lot of success. That still doesn't guarantee they'd win a lot, but at least they'd have a chance.

Only problem in this was I think I read somewhere that if a team doesn't participate in the football playoffs they are ineligible in basketball.

I'm not sure if that is right.

  2. Kirk Williams is the kind of coach parents should want their kids to play for. Sure, the team might be down this year. But I assure you it's not because of Coach Williams and/or his offense. Greenbrier has won too many games with it throughout recent years (with and without Herndon).

So Greenbrier misses the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. Given their recent success the last thing anyone should do is play the blame game.

  3. I don't know what the lure of Old Fort is to the association, but the A/AA Tourney at Tims Ford last year was a great event on a GORGEOUS course. I covered both that and the AAA in the Boro at Old Fort and without question Tims Ford is miles away better than Old Fort.

Any real reason why they didn't go back to Tims Ford?

I would say the chance to get everyone on the same course is one advantage. And with the Boro being the central point in the state, it'd cut down on travel costs. If you are so curious, why not call a Tims Ford contact and ask them if they are interested in holding three state tournaments in three consecutive weeks...

  4. Considering most of the current coaches in this region have only been around 3 yrs or less and Shad has been HC at Smyrna for way over a decade....no I don't think it is exactly the same.

Amount of time at HC in the region:

    Wilson Central- first yr

    Blackman-2 yrs

    Lebanon- 3 yrs

    Oakland- 2 yrs

    Siegel- 3yrs

    Lavergne- 3yrs

Tell me how that is the same?

This is Watson's fourth year (school's fourth year) and Lebron's third... and Thomas has been there longer than three.

  5. Wow, what a great day of Softball for Tennessee and the MTSCA. The girls played great and had a wonderful time. Kentucky really put on a class event. The girls really enjoyed putting on an Orange and White Tennessee uniform and making the State of Tennessee proud. You could see as the day went on, the pride of their state coming out. And what an opportunity to play in a game like this. It made all of us Tennesseeans proud when the girls chanted TENNESSEE at the end of the 2nd win. All of the young ladies from both teams showed a lot of class and what great athletes they are. Thank you ladies and coaches, and also thanks to Kentucky Coaches Assoc. and the MTSCA for putting on this great event. A special thanks to the parents also for supporting the event, I think they enjoyed it most of all. Anyone out there who has any influence with TV or newspapers, let them know they missed a great opportunity for a great story,( and I know they were contacted ), maybe someday they will understand this is the fasted growing sport in the country right now. But again, what a great day for High School Softball in Tennessee, Thanks!!!

    I thought that was soccer?

And didn't the MTSCA game have several media outlets there...

  6. Hasn't the Supreme Court ruled that drug testing of students is legal?

Are you saying that students have the right to get high on the weekends and juice up for football games?

If they don't, then why don't people have the right to check to make sure they aren't doing that?

If I had a child in high school playing athletics, I'd want my son or daughter to be tested. I'd even pay for it myself. It's not because I wouldn't trust them. But I too was a kid once and know peer pressures of kids.

Sometimes you have to get off the soapbox of taking away perceived rights for the greater good. I'd say this is a greater good if it was able to stop a problem before it got out of hand.
