Facts that back up your point, 6one5, from my BA friends:

    1. Basically, almost every single head coach has been replaced or left in the past 16-18 months except girls basketball and swimming. Oh, no. Nothing to see here. Nothing at all.

    2. 13 kids on the CPA football roster have at least one parent who went to BA or a long standing BA tie from the past. Hmmm. Pure coincidence I am sure.

    3. Cody White was the smartest one in the room. He left a job last winter at BA without having another job yet. No coach does that. He 100% knew what was coming even with a 5 star QB for two more years. Think about that for a minute.

It's not just athletics...the school has seen unbelievable employee turnover in the last 3 years...90+ new employees in that time frame...the staff used to be stuffed full of alumni teachers/coaches, usually around 30 or so alumni have worked there in most years...I believe they are at or below 10 now...it's a completely different place...all of this at the headmaster's feet

  2. Headmaster makes plenty, shockingly plenty...In the span of 2 years - new AD, FB coach, Boys Basketball, Baseball, Wrestling, girls soccer, boys soccer, Volleyball, Girls XC, Track, Tennis, Golf...to name a few...faculty has had unbelievable turnover the last 2 years as well - BA isn't the same BA anymore...

  3. Make it a requirement for the following fall with hotel and meals paid for each team.

Who is going to pay for said hotel and meals? Who is going to make it a requirement? Certainly not the TSSAA. It's great in theory (as are these debates that have been going on for the better part of 10 years), but until the TSSAA wises up and changes a few things, it isn't happening. Think of a week 0 collection of games at Vandy/MTSU (central locations for the state...definitely not Cookeville), where you have BA, Ens, MBA, Mcallie, Baylor, etc play Marville, Alcoa, Oakland, Whitehaven, Ravenwood, etc...can you imagine how much gate that would bring in? Or rotate it every year between middle (vandy/MTSU/Nissan stadium), west (liberty bowl), and East (Neyland, UTC). The TSSAA would never have to worry about money ever again. It would settle a lot of this discussion and high quality football/exposure for the whole state. It would like the ACC/Big Ten challenge in hoops every year.

  4. Look at all the uproar over these matchups that aren't even happening. Again put Lausanne vs Dresden, Trezevant vs Alcoa, Memphis East vs Farragut, Whitehaven vs BA in week one (or other winners following a given year) and watch the people fill MTSU or Vanderbilt. Maybe in some years it would be Maryville or Oakland vs MBA, think that would draw?

I'm pretty sure BA/MBA/Ens have been trying to put together something of this structure FOR YEARS...I know BA would much rather play Oak, Haven, Maryville, Alcoa, or fill in the blank with any public TN power than having to play an out of state team (Aplus, Olive Branch, Trinity, St. X, University Chr, etc). Until the TSSAA changes the silly rule about overall record affecting playoff seeding (affects only Division I schools btw) it definitely will not happen...even if they do change it, don't expect those games to happen.

  5. Wildcat, I think he was referring to University Christian from Jacksonville (A-plus is in Texas) - UC won the 2a championship last year and is playing in this year's 2a championship game. As for Hoover, contact Cody White (BA's head coach) 615-373-0611, I'm sure he'd welcome your input (as I'm positive ZoneRead has no say in who the eagles schedule). It's my understanding that BA has had an open invitation with Maryville and Alcoa since Coach White came to BA, but has been refused each year. There has been rumor that Valor Christian from Denver inquired about a game. I get the feeling though, that no matter who BA plays, you won't be satisfied with their strength of schedule.

  6. I agree wholeheartedly with this, but I'll add that a huge factor in Elder's success was Ensworth's ability to control the line of scrimmage. Friday night, BA dominated up front.

Agreed...first time in 4 years I've seen the Ensworth line get dominated on both sides of the ball...but Elder always made something out of nothing...BA's lines match up well with Ensworth...should be fun in 3 weeks

  7. I think something that hasn't been mentioned: the past 4 years this game was DOMINATED by #15...every time he touched the ball or it was near him something happened. Without him Ensworth looks much different - credit BA, they did a great job containing Ferby (who may not have been 100%) - Elder was such a difference maker in past years' games, without him Ensworth is not as explosive. Also, in the past Ensworth's QB play has been very solid - young Bowers was a solid qb that didn't make mistakes - again credit BA for putting the Ensworth qb in position to turn it over. Matchup in 3 weeks should be even better - expect a much different Ensworth and different atmosphere at Ensworth's field.

  8. Every single thread on this board turns into a DII schools cheat discussion. Every one. When do you guys stop? And why don't you explain to me exactly the trouble BA got into. The AD, headmaster and anyone else at the top sure don't know anything yet you do. Maybe you work for the NSA or own your own drone?  And almost everything you and others spout about on here have no basis in fact other than an isolated incident that all know about.  Why is it that i don't see any DII fans, alums, parents, etc. on public school boards making accusations about bending the rules?  because publics never do? I've lived in multiple states where my kids always went to private schools. Have never seen the baloney that goes on here with privates anywhere else. on and on and on and on and on....

close to that now. ask Ricky about a basketball player at a middle school he took to eat with his parents. got him and BA in a little bit of trouble. by the way they really helped the kid at UT now, didn't they? It was all about academics wasn't it? all the good tutors couldn't keep him at ensworth. what did he play, maybe 15 games in 3 years?

    meritage,

He's referring to 24 years ago in 1989 when Ricky was at BA he met Charles Hathaway's parents in the parking lot of the Green Hills O'Charleys to discuss Charles applying for BA. BA received probation and nothing ever came of anything - Charles played at Hillsboro then on at UT. Not sure where the Hathaway at Ensworth thing got thrown in, he never attended, we went to JT Moore for Middle School - back then Ensworth was only K-8

  9. Ya know , a lot of you guys are awfully testy  , I was one of those who was told for years and years on here that MBA always follows the rules ...   I believed that to be true , when I found out otherwise ... Well this article is just a year and a half ago , and all of you guys are acting like you can't believe this subject is ever brought up .... hey , I like the DII schools and I have no problem if we did play you guys , none at all , but I'm just pointing out that you all shouldn't act so surprised when you do hear about this .

     http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/city-news/tssaa-hammers-mba-financial-aid-violations

Not testy...just speaking to the false accusations made towards Brentwood Academy in a previous post...I'm sure you would do the same if someone said athletes were being paid at Maryville or Alcoa. Nobody on the DII board is surprised when you bring up MBA...we've all read the articles and know what happened.

  10. I'm not so sure about that. How much do you think those MBA football players were paying in tuition a few years ago? Between the checks from the coaches I'm willing to beat not so much. And to respond to our Brentwood Academy friend WesVLT hasn’t Brentwood academy been put on probation for paying players before like their friends in crime McCallie when they went on probation as well. I’m just looking at history and there’s no way you can tell me that all those school including Ensworth aren’t doing some things under the table to get better football players.

Nice try...BA was put on probation for sending a letter about spring practice to 8th graders already enrolled at the school. As a BA alumni, former player and former BA faculty member and coach...I can tell you with 100% certainty that no Brentwood Academy athlete has ever been paid to attend school or compete in any sport.

Cowboypete, if you have eviedence to the contrary please go turn this over to the TSSAA and then the next phone call should be to BA - ask to speak to Hunt Atkins, Cody White, or Curt Masters - they would be eager to hear this so they could rectify the situation and begin working transparently with the TSSAA to get to the bottom of it...BA's phone number 615-373-0611.

  11. On a hot and muggy night, the MBA frosh used an air and ground attack to jump to a first half 21-0 lead, boatracing the visiting BA team to a 34-14 final victory.

Photos of last night's Freshman MBA-BA game are linked on the Freshman Football tab at http://www.rollredphoto.com

No Brashers, Pittman, Annoor, Sanders or Wilks for the BA freshmen...they might have helped just a little bit...

  12. I agree with you 100% that team was an outstanding team.

They were HEAVY underdogs in the semifinal game in the Palms tourney against Episcopal with Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson. They were such a fun team to watch. A game with either of those Liberty teams would be well worth the price of admission - those teams were outstanding.

  13. Oh, just a point about the Liberty team that finished nationally ranked. They also played in the City Of Palms Classic and finished runner up by going 3 and 1, loosing the Championship by 5.

That Liberty team destroyed just about every team they played. I think they finished 37 and 3 with one loss at the Arby's classic, one lose to Oak Hill in a true road game at VA (not a neutral site), and to Mater Dei in the City of Palms Championship.

Liberty beat the number one seed in the first round in the City of Palms in the first round by double digits, a team that was led by Tyreke Evans. The also beat the Lake Howell, led by Nick Calathes and Chandler Parsons.

That year Liberty also beat White Station, Mitchel X2 and Ridgeway. I think but am not sure Liberty went something like 8 and 3 against ranked teams. Mitchell was ranked most of that season. Oh and the year before they knocked of Mitchell, led by NBA Thad Young, for the State Championship.

I have no idea who was better. But, Liberty had a special team and one of the best pressure DEFENSIVE teams you will ever see in High School. Liberty was one of the best TEAMS I have ever see, not the most talented but they were great.

Liberty won there game at the Marshall County Hoopfest, Runner up City of Palms and third place Arby's.

Want to know why the didn't win the Arby's Classic? Here's why.

Liberty played in the City Of Palms and Arby's back to back and played 8 total games between Dec 18th and 30th. That's 8 games in 12 days (Florida and Bristol) against some of the best team in the country going 6 and 2 in those 8 games. Liberty beat a lot of team loaded with D1 players and some with NBA players. The thing that made Liberty so tough is teams simply couldn't simulate in practice the kind of pressure they brought every knight and in these Tournaments they played in teams really couldn't practice at all for what Liberty brought.

Brentwood Aacdemy's team Brandan Wright's senior year won both the Arby's and City of Palms tournaments...not losing a game in either case. They should be in this discussion as well.

  14. Roy, you need to read more carefully before you post. CPA can give scholorships, but not to athletes. What I said was that CPA made a decision to stay DI because if they had gone DII, they would feel the temptation to give scholorships only to athletes rather than to good singers, students, etc.. In DII it is a real temptation to allow a student's athletic ability sway your decision to help them with a scholorship. CPA didn't want that to happen.

So are you saying that CPA is not stooping to the level of DII schools because they do not offer financial aid to athletes?

  15. I agree with the comments by RRR and KW. I check the board once every week or two in season and not at all out of football season. The lack of intelligence is staggering; that coupled with other social media outlets has had a significantly negative impact on this space.

As for the game, I have seen both play a couple of games this year. Brentwood Academy is as talented as normal and has the edge like normal in pure athleticism. That said, MBA has really begun to narrow the gap in terms of talent across the board and in terms of depth. I think it will be a hard fought and close game Friday with the winner not too excited about facing the loser again in the playoffs.

    Roll Red Roll!

I second and third RRR and KW. As a BA supporter I've always been more of a reader than poster - I find myself coming here less and less. I always appreciate what the thoughtful, intelligent remarks/debate by the "old school" coacht-ers - there is less and less of that. That being said - Friday night should be great game - I think MBA and their grind it out, disciplined style may win out in the end. It will be (like the other big DII games this year) who wins the mistake/turnover battle. I'll be pulling for the lighter shade of red - hope it doesn't come down to a try for point after attempt this time.

  16. :roflolk: I love it.............you can not stand it! Alcoa has beat DII And NOW DII schools with one................just one loss. AND big wins against JB Coleman lead McCallie..................two straight years, A F5 blow out of Brentwood Acad. in 1989!

And total domination of Webb! :thumb:

Good luck this year, I hope both Maryville and Alcoa do well and add to their collection of gold balls. Would love for our schools to meet up sometime, if nothing else, just to see a good football game.
