  4. Mike is working hard still trying to rehab and recover from season ending surgery. He will be suiting up next year and wrestling tough for the Chattanooga Mocs next year!

Blackman will be well represented at 215 next week by a red hot Tristan Rush who is a junior 39-3 on the year, 4 pins in a row at the Region tournament, including a 16 second pinfall in the finals. Unfortunately, he has already been defeated by Bolton.

  5. I have to agree with this board, TOTALLY!! Franklin High traditionally has a WONDERFUL group of parents. Sundancer is one of them also! Wrestling parents are a great group, who do not always agree, but their hearts are all in the right place. My hat goes off to you all!

  7. I have seen more quality top caliber wrestlers not in line-ups froom first of season til now. And most coaches have stated that the just quit? Where is the commitment from kids to complete something, finish what you start?

It was my decision to leave Kennedy at home on yesterday. Michael wanted to come and lead this team, but in my opinion, it was best that he take care of other business. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with weight, discipline, or any fears.

Blackman has had its share of problems this year. Its not secret. And it is my job not only to give these kids the tools to win, but to also help them grow into MEN! With that, there are several life lessons along the way. We all know them. One of them is fighting through adversity. This is what we will ALWAYS do whether we have 100+ kids in the room or only the 11 that were left to weigh in on yesterday. I would not have had the kids dismissed from school early yesterday (so that we could get through Nashville traffic on time for weigh ins) with the intentions to lose to Father Ryan. We line up and wrestle to WIN! And we will do that Kennedy or no Kennedy, Sommers or no Sommers, Head Coach or no Head Coach!

Should we have gone over to Father Ryan and told the team and coaches that we are having a rough time and we aren't the same team that they wrestled last year?? Heck no!!! We are going to lineup every single time and go as hard as we can whether we have Nationally ranked wrestlers or the rejects from the basketball team (not saying thats what we have)!!! Now, i'm sorry that the CoachT faithful didn't see the matches they wanted to see. But I challenge ANY of you to ask Will Mix did he feel as though he was shorted a good match yesterday! For that matter, ask anyone in the gym yesterday whether or not there was a fight in that gym on last night!

My job is not only to turn these guys into competitive wrestlers, but to help these guys become great men! We aren't going to make excuses and we are not going to back down from any great competition. We are going to line up, take on any challenge, and bust our butts doing so REGARDLESS of who it is or who we have on the team! Because that is what MEN DO!!!

  8. I have been at Blackman for about 7 years now, and i can only think of one year during that period where we have had more than 7 guys in the VARSITY tournament at Brentwood. Last year is the only year we had put more and we only did so at the request of Joe Blair.

SMYRNA — Michael Kennedy bumped up a weight class to 215 pounds Saturday.

No, the Blackman junior standout wrestler doesn't have any plans on staying at the weight. He simply still had a couple extra holiday pounds he hadn't shed yet.

But Kennedy was just as impressive at a heavier class. Kennedy recorded three pins en route to winning the Dawg Pound Invitational in his class and was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.

"I'm right around (189) right now," Kennedy said. "I'm just waiting until next week to go back."

Kennedy was one of four Blackman wrestlers to win their weight class to help the Blaze finish second in the tournament, which included just 10 teams after seven canceled from the tourney because of the weather.

Clarksville Northwest won the tournament with 158 points — six more than Blackman. Wilson Central was third with 147.5. Eagleville was sixth with 91, La Vergne was seventh with 64, Riverdale was eighth with 60.5 and host Smyrna was 10th with 26.

Kyle Saunders was the Bulldogs' lone bright spot. Saunders won the 160-pound class. He collected two of his three wins via pin, beating Eagleville's Peter Underwood 15-2 in the final.

"We need to work harder on getting better," Saunders said. "That's all that really matters."

Saunders said when he saw that all of his teammates had been eliminated he knew he had to focus on himself.

"They were out of the tournament, so I figured I had to win it," he said.

Blackman's Eric Feuerbacher won the 130-pound title, collecting three pins to win the title. All three of Feuerbacher's pins came in the first period.

"It feels good to get back out here and make sure I'm still in shape for the big tournament in February at state," Feuerbacher said.

Blackman's Tristan Rush edged Riverdale's Scott Boykin 3-2 in the 171-pound final in a thrilling match that ended with Rush winning at the horn. Adam Wells won at 189, edging Northwest's DeAndre West 3-0 in the championship.

Wells, who is the Blaze's regular 215-pound wrestler, was happy to compete at 189 pounds. He normally wrestles up a class with Kennedy at 189.

"I finally got a chance to wrestle at my weight" Wells said. "It was awesome. I feel like I did well."

    Blackman's Hunter Sommers finished runner-up at 112, Eagleville's Ryan Hammonds finished runner-up at 125 and Riverdale's Michael Ramirez was runner-up at 145.
