I live in Cannon County and would love to see the football team be competitive. I know it's hard to watch your team get creamed every week. I played in Dekalb County in the late 90's and we flat out sucked. That being said, we all left it out on the field. You know what, sometimes it's just not good enough and that's something you just have to live with. I played for coach Chris Vance back then. Every player in that locker room would have taken a bullet for that guy. He was just that kind of coach you want to play for. He was a heck of a coach. Unfortunately, he coached a team with very little talent (Sorry Ronnie, it's true). I never thought that Dekalb County would ever field a very competitive team, but you see where they are sitting at right now. They are a 1-loss team with that loss coming to probably one of the best teams in the state in this region. Coach Steve Trapp has instilled a heck of a program in Dekalb County, and I think that is what Cannon County needs. Cannon County is predominately a basketball place. Nobody is a bigger fan (heck my cousin is the coach) Coach Matt Rigsby has restored the boys basketball program to where it should be. Coach Dodgen has done an outstanding job as well. The boys team was one win away from the state tournament and the girls team almost won the gold ball. It was exciting and the entire county was excited about it. Here's my point: Coach schrenk can obviously win if he won a district title in Cannon County. It all starts from the beginning. Players have to be taught from a young age and everybody has to buy in: players, coaches, parents, supporters, everybody in the community. That's just not happening right now. Until someone comes along and fixes this problem, you will see blowouts every Friday night like this one at Smith County. I don't know any of the players personally, but I am willing to bet they are giving it everything they have on the field. It is not their fault that the wins aren't coming. It's just the nature of the beast. If you want a successful program, do the little things first, and it will come in time. Come on Cannon County, WAKE UP!!!

Gotta go with Cannon Co in this one also. LA beat them 3 of 4 times and should have a 4th if they wouldnt have blew a 10 pt lead in the regional championship. But it was a well deserved win. Cannon plays in one of the best Districts in the state and if they can survive thru it im confident they can survive in the state. So I guess that means "I'm In" I love how the teams in this district come up with qoutes and it snowballs into tee shirts and everything else. Go Lions!

They've had good middle school talent coming in before and still haven't won a district game in over 5 years!

Could there be an upset of the century? Can dekalb county win a district tournament game? i rescind my last post and encourage everybody to throw there support to dekalb county.

I wish that they would just cancel girl's basketball in dekalb county. It is the most pitiful thing I have ever seen.

I was at the game and the first half was all cannon. the wildcats made a run in the second half but just couldn't get close enough.

I totally agree. Although she didn't score as many points as normal, she played a heck of an all-around game yesterday against Gibson. She is definintely a special player and will be a great one in college as well.

Every team in that district on any given night can run the floor with most any girls team in the state. Read the quote about ignorance.......

Smith County can win this game. Didn't they just beat a Clay County team by 12 that handed Jackson County a pretty stunning loss?

I think this game might be closer than people actually think. I think it will be a five point game either way.

All I can say is wow!! Shelbyville truly is a juggernaut in girl's basketball. But all teams can beaten on any night. That is why these 2 teams split their series this year. Whether you win by 50 or 5, it is still a win. Good luck to these two teams come tournament time. I don't see anybody beating Shelbyville in AAA and only Livingston can stop Jackson County (maybe)

I say this a matchup of the 2 best teams in the state. They may struggle at times during the regular season, but at the end of the state tournament, one of these teams will be left standing. Right now I say LA by 5 over JC at home.

It starts with a Community that is dedicated to building a program. Getting support for a team is something that I do not see a lot of around Dekalb County. So you hired a new coach. So what! How much support does he actually get? Probably not much. You can hire a new coach every couple of years but the bottom line is......support!
