  1. Interesting match-up in week 2 and who would have ever thought of that in this district?

    Greenfield 1-1

    Halls 2-0

Jackets are 2 points from a 2-0 start themselves after a heart-breaker against Lake County in week 0.  Tigers started slow last week, but have two 20-plus victories to show for themselves against lessor opponents the first two games.

Greenfield lost by only two scores last year and if not for a couple of blunders before halftime the game might have been a different story.

  2. Well my boys bowed out gracefully to Mitchell last Friday, but that doesn't mean I won't keep up with the quad.  Who does everybody have this week?

    Mitchell @ Huntingdon

    I'll take the Mustangs

    Peabody @ TCA

I really think this is a tossup...I'll go with the upset and take the Tide.

  3. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitchell sandbagged it the past two weeks...especially last week against a horrific Northside team.  Maybe the week before that they may have had to do a little to get past Hillcrest but I guarantee they gave us nothing to look at on film.

That said, I think they will be a little surprised to see us differently than what we showed the last two weeks too.

  4. Ok bigswo, I'll put my two cents worth in just for you :)

Our schedule was light the first half but it allowed us to gain some momentum and confidence.

The Lake County game was a farce...we were still in let down mode after getting our first loss the week before in Memphis. We woke up at halftime but our heads were too low the first half to catch up.

We held Peabody to TWENTY FIVE yards the first half but trailed at halftime cause they 1) intercepted our first drive and ran back to the nine scoring on four downs and then 2) when we tied it they ran the kick back. We kept their offense off the field but three second half turnovers led to their 20 points.

We literally frustrated Humboldt to no end last week. We were there to stop the run and we had their QB running for his life.

Why say all that? I dunno...like to see myself type I guess. Lol

I know one thing for sure...the same won't happen this year: we checked out when we got off the bus up there last year because the front of the jersey said Union City. We have finally gotten past names on jerseys and just go play. UC probably has more depth and more talent, but we are big and that could be important. But as ur coaches know we are suspect in the passing game: offensively and defensively and I exoect Coach Bowling to exploit those weaknesses.

But it will be a lot closer than last year cause we will actually get off the bus this year.

Have fun at the game and I pray for no injuries.

  5. Well my morning is shot.

I didn't know that about the district runner ups getting the higher seed; makes sense though I wish the tssaa would update the projections page to include that in its seeding instead of a note that says they will make the change at the end of the year.

  6. First off, thanks to Reitz for remembering me.   :)  Even though I've been trying to refrain from posting this year, I do read up every week here on the coacht.

And you are right, I couldn't be happier.  The kids have finally figured out that it doesn't matter what name is on the front of that jersey.  They made too many mistakes last week against Peabody, otherwise we may have been talking about two big upsets in a row.

Tonight our defense locked down.  We had their QB running for his life...sacked him four or five times.  We frustrated them and by the time the fourth quarter came around they didn't know what to do next.

Our offense was definitely lacking tonight, but we did enough to get the win.  Defense has really been our focus point this year and they really clamped down tonight.

First win against a ranked team since we won at Peabody when they were #2 in '92.  I think six wins gets us in for sure, but instead of a six seed I think we may very well get a four and host a game!  We hold the tie breaker over Hillcrest and McKenzie losing last night helps us too.  But we will worry about all that later.

I'm just proud of those kids, especially the seniors on Senior Night.  Good group...they deserve it!

  7. Not much being talked about.  Let's get it started.

Three classification changes for the upcoming season:

    1) Gibson County joins the district in 2A

    2) Humboldt drops to 1A

    3) Halls grows to 2A

Half the district had coaching turnover (expected or not) this past offseason as Peabody, Lake County, South Fulton and Humboldt have new head men for 2013.

I expect UC and Humboldt will be picked to win 1A and Peabody 2A?

I'm hoping my Tigers continue their resurgence from a year ago.  Lots of seniors back to lead them.  Several opportunities for Ws in the first half, but last half will be tough as LC, Humboldt, Peabody and UC are four of the last five.

Just a couple weeks til kickoff!!

  8. In my excitement of a PLAYOFF game yesterday, I overlooked this important piece of information yesterday. The Jackson Sun released the TSSAA's district projections yesterday for the next four seasons. As a Halls Tiger fan, I can honestly say that I am EXCITED to remain in District 14A. The only changes for our district are us and Humboldt swapping classes and Gibson County joins. Here is the entire A/AA projections for West TN:

    District 13-A

    Big Sandy

    Bruceton (1A)

    Carroll Academy

    Clarksburg

    Dresden (1A)

    Gleason (1A)

    Huntingdon (2A)

    McKenzie (2A)

    West Carroll (1A)

    District 14-A

    Bradford

    Gibson County (2A)

    Greenfield (1A)

    Halls (2A)

    Humboldt (1A)

    Lake County (1A)

    Peabody (2A)

    South Fulton (1A)

    Union City (1A)

    District 15-A

    Adamsville (2A)

    Riverside (2A)

    JCS (2A)

    Madison

    Middleton (1A)

    Scotts Hill (2A)

    TCA (2A)

For some reason I thought Gibson County and McKenzie were moving down to A...was I dreaming that? Anyway, 14A will only have three non-conference opponents instead of four, but Halls and Gibson County don't really lose in that since we have played each other the last couple of years.
