Coach Nelson is a great lady. I loved my time being her student teacher and am very thankful she gave me a chance to help with her 97 runner-up team. She allowed me to coach 18 under with her and I was hired to coach @ Bradley Jr/Ocoee Middle upon her recommendation. This eventually led to my hiring for the Walker Valley job. We had many great games vs. each other during my nine years @ WV. Unfortunately, my last game coaching was a 10 inning 2-1 loss that kept us from going to Region. However, the pain wasn't as bad knowing I lost to my softball mentor. Keep your head held high Norma. Many kids have had the fortune to call you coach, I had the benefit of calling you FRIEND!

Thanks, good luck this season.

Did Edwards pitch in the 5-1 loss vs. Walker Valley and give up the bomb to Hooper? I wasn't there and was just curious.

Let's go Walker Valley!

Great defensive game last night between Walker Valley and Soddy Daisy. A Walker Valley win would have given them the number 1 seed going into the tournament. Nunnely brought her "A" game as did WV's Hooper. Soddy got a single in the top of the 7th and advanced the runner on a sac bunt. The next batter hit another grounder out of the infield with the runner taking second on a throw from the outfield to hold the runner at third. This was followed by a failed squeeze attempt. With two outs and runners at second and third, Soddy hit another grounder up the middle bringing in the only run of the game. Hooper led off the bottom of the seventh w/a shot to right field. Originally called safe after beating the throw to third, the umpire changed his call. Hard to tell from my angle how he changed it but he did. Soddy will be number 1 seed and a victory tonight for WV will give them the number 2. Should be a great tournament with Soddy, WV and Ooltewah giving it their all to advance in the post season. Good luck to all three teams.

Good wins, vs Soddy, W Valley and Coffee if I looked at it right, just skimmed it and will read the whole thing later.

Congrats to Ooltewah for winning the tournament this weekend and keeping the championship in Chatt.

Congrats to Walker Valley on their 10-1 vs. Farragut and their 1-0 win vs. CSAS today. Center fielder Laurel Allen hit a grand slam in the first game. Good luck at 6pm.

Just stating the facts Mr Ooltewah, lol. You don't know Chris, He and his wife actually have had another child and he is persuing other educational possitions.
Do you ever actually read the crap you write? Thank you for making me laugh today!
Thanks tnsoftball and Indian. Everyone that knows me knows I left to spend more time with my family and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I miss the kids and the game more than anyone can imagine. However, my beautiful wife and my wonderful kids needed to come first. His lies are done for the season unless he comes back under a new name. I left the new coach with plenty of great players and several more coming up from my middle school team next year. Keep up the good work ladies.

For a team that is ranked 13th nationally, surely they have a plethora of young tallented girls that will go on to nationally ranked Div 1 programs? Are any going to any of the SEC schools? Have they ever had anyone within the past 10 years that has gone on to play a significant role in a school other than UTC,TW, etc? I hardly feel that the current arbitrary ranking holds any weight and should not be mentioned in the Times Free Press again as they are so fond of doing, unless you have the history to back it up.....just a thought.
Why would a local paper not mention that fact that they are ranked so high nationally? It is an honor for the state to have a team represented so high in a national ranking. Now, do those rankings hold any water? No! You can't compare teams from all over the country who never play each other. However, they have fun trying. All that matters to them is being number one in the state. They definitely have the hitters to make that case and the pitching and defense is solid as well. They can hit 1-15. They do have the history to back it up. I am sure Clifford would love to show you his collection of State Rings. My two sister-in-laws have three they are proud of from their time at Soddy.

What a loss for Rhea. Hopefully Cumberland County or Stone will step up and do what they should have done a few years ago.
Hey, bro! I hope you are doing well.

Thanks coach, just wanted to say that I have always admired your teams, and your passion for the game. Your teams, both in Middle and High school, are always well prepared and well coached. Good luck in the future.
Thanks, I have been blessed with great kids and a great administration.

This is the first I have heard concerning this situation. I do not know details nor do I care to. However, as one of her coaching peers, I have the utmost respect for her and have enjoyed coaching against her the last few years. She has represented Rhea County with class and has put great teams on the field. I wish you the best Britt, it shouldn't be too hard to find a system that will appreciate you for your abilities on the diamond. God Bless, friend.

Bledsoe did that to Greta a few years ago. Another great person that loved her players and had built a solid program. When people think of some of the best Chattanooga HS softball coaches of the last 15 years; they think of Clifford, Norma, and Cranover.
