I was glad to see Alcoa scrimmage some great competition like Baylor. Baylor should be a tough out for most DII schools this year. Loved the Harris kid, as a UT fan I'm glad to know that he'll be in Knoxville next year, (even though he was running his mouth a lot to the Alcoa team and bench).

As usual, Alcoa will be Alcoa I feel like. My initial concerns for the '17 squad are breaking in three new starters on the O-line and secondary, and you could kind of tell that we were doing just that yesterday. Besides some well-drawn up screen calls, there wasn't much on display from the throw game, but considering Tykee didn't scrimmage and is almost assured a TD per game, that is not too alarming. The 3-headed rushing attack looked great, they all three seem to bring a different style to the backfield. 

Defense should be tough as always. I think while slightly inexperienced our secondary has talent. The LB's are the complete opposite, full of returning experience and talent, and I like the D-line, especially with Salter moving to end. He was the most impressive player to me yesterday. The kicking and punting is set for the next three years.

We should have the weapons to be right be in Cookeville again. On defense we return most of our top LB's and half of the secondary is back, obviously the biggest hole to fill will be the D-line after 3 of the 4 starters signed division one scholarships.

 

Offense should be a lot better. Basically the whole O-line is back, you'll have two or three experienced RB's return in what will mist likely be another balanced rushing attack with no real feature back, and Myers to Ogle-Kellogg should potentially be one of the best QB to WR duos in the area. Should be another fun year

You are aware many many schools in the state are open zone don't you? Alcoa has been for years and it's funny that once they have sustained success and one of the best coaching staffs in the state during the run of success people are always quick to whine. Let me be clear again since some of you are hard of hearing/understanding: most schools in this state are open zone

I still think CPA is #1 until a team in their class proves they can beat them. Like my Tornadoes they lost to a perennial state power, who may have a few losses, but I guarantee they aren't chopped liver. CAK could end up being the best of the bunch. Their offense seems to be on par with state title teams of the past. Can't wait to see them come to Goddard Field and square off against one of the best defenses Alcoa has ever put on the field.

Is the game at Alcoa? I'm almost certain we played them at Goddard last year, and every schedule I've seen says we play the at home again. Is that right?

I think it's been mentioned both teams have great defenses (joke). In all seriousness, I've seen both play and I'm glad to see both doing well, especially on that side of the ball. It's really hard to tell but I'm going 17-14 Mo West, with the Trojans knocking through a late FG.

It's really hard to say, and this is just myedumacated guess, there's alot of solid teams across the state

Sounds like we really spread it around. McNear, Shereef, and Myers all had rushing scores. Matt McClurg hauled in a score from Myers, which is good to see him get some time at TE, and Woody took one to the house on what I'm assuming was a double pass from Clabough. Obviously the defense played lights out, halfway through the season and the first teamers have allowed only one score to teams not named Maryville. Pretty impressive. On to Lower Blount County to face a Heritage team who has been playing a little better the last few weeks. They have a couple of very shifty RB's and an experienced QB.

Two, what I'm assuming, grown men wanting to get into a physical confrontation over high school football and what's being said on a high school football thread. T-minus half an hour til this one's locked.

2000 Defense was the fastest defense. Fastest everything actually. You had at least 3 backs and a QB who all ran at least in the 4.5-4.4 range, I believe alcoachamp might've been flirting with that 4.3 range.

 

Most talented defense had to have been the '05 squad. Two of the best DE's in the country with Warren and Sykes, a D1 LB in Lindsey, and Sommer was one of the best in his class at corner. Add Love, Hicks, White, Lanxter, Walker, etc...

 

'08 was my favorite. Beside T-Rob off the edge, really no huge stars. Sam Thompson led that defense, and was one of the smartest players to come through Alcoa. Such a great safety!

 

'89, '01, '06-'10, and '12-present have all had great defenses, it's really hard to choose. As long as Nix is calling the shots well always have a great defense.

Another game that the youngsters should get plenty of game action. 48-7 good guys

Wow, hate I missed this one! I'm proud of the 'nadoes for going toe to toe with hands down the best football program in this state. Sounds like our defense played their hearts out and Rankin dialed up some high risk- high reward plays when it mattered most and our offense executed them. Been saying our D-line would be the best on this side of the state since spring, but after tonight I would put them up there with anyone in Tennessee.

 

Congrats to Maryville, first class team and first class coaching staff. Good luck the rest of the way, doubt you'll need it, but hopefully we'll see ya'll in Cookeville!

not so sure how much a threat ND is at this point.......there is still some work to be done and they are really struggling wth the small things that make a good team....a little more all around discipline and an identity could push them back into that 'BAM' group

It does seem like they've struggled just a bit early, but it appears Tyner is fielding a solid squad this year, and I think ND will improve as the season progresses. Two great seniors in Darras and Enos, whom I assume won't settle for mediocrity. Good measuring stick against a talented (although banged-up),well-coached Catholic team tonight.

 

I don't think this Central-Polk game will be as close as it was last year. The schedule the Chargers have faced so far will get them prepared for tonight, and they'll be hungry to get into the win column against a bitter rival. I hear Polk is young, I just hope they can return to fielding teams comparable to those of 4-5 years ago. Physical on both sides of the ball with a 400 pound running back with tree trunk arms and legs wearing you down all night.

Central has to have one of the tougher schedules in the area. The teams they've played are a combined 7 or 8 and 1. Plus very difficult games still coming up against CAK, Notre Dame and Alcoa. I do think they'll get in the win column this week; however and I believe they are capable of knocking off Scott and Loudon as well.

I'm nor sure about BRPro but I know FBD is still around although like me, his kids have graduated. He still makes it to some games. I certainly miss the posts both of them made. Two classy posters, that represented CAK well and had very interesting perspectives.

Absolutely right, I enjoy all CAK fans opinions on these boards. Class guys with informative posts.

 

I don't see Webb being much of a problem for CAK. Webb has some solid players all over the field, but I don't see them stopping the aerial assault, or the ground game for that matter. Still stand by my word though, I think the Spartans will be in Cookeville in December even if they have 3 or 4 losses.

I guess so. Still think the Wildcats will be playing in late November. 5A in East Tennessee is pretty loaded this year. I think it's up for grabs between Oak Ridge, Sevier Co, Mo West, Knox West, Farragut, Rhea Co., and Ooltewah

No because Alcoa is tired of being spanked on television. Whether it's on ESPN or the local CBS channel they've been getting owned by the Maryville's and CPA's of the state. At least the Fulton @ Maryville game was worth watching. This game will be over by halftime. Maryville by a ton!

Maryville has owned Alcoa the last two years, but I'm pretty sure the ESPN game was better than the Fulton game two weeks ago. And please refresh me...when did Alcoa get "owned" by CPA? Somebody's obviously bitter about a high school football team, huh? Poor guy...

 

Anywho, Maryville is Maryville. Great offense, great defense, great special teams, and awful, terrible, flat out sorry coaching....what else is new? Alcoa's D-line is dominant. On par with the '05 line that featured Warren, Sykes, and White, but we're really going to need the next two levels of the defense to step up even more to keep Alcoa in the ball game. Jaylen Myers has the best arm I've seen personally at the HS level, and I've seen some good ones. His accuracy has improved, and he'll have to make some big throws to keep the Rebel D on their toes. It doesn't seem we have that featured Alcoa back that we seem to have each year, but rather by committee. McClurg, Shareef, and Salter are all very capable backs.

 

Hopefully we can make this a game, to do so we'll have to play perfect, get some big defensive stops and force a Rebel turnover or two. Maryville is the class of Tennessee football, heck maybe even football in the Southeast, over the last 15 years, and we're the only team in this state that has beaten them multiple times in that span. Hopefully we can find a way to do it again this Friday.

Besides MAYBE Clinton, the Warriors won't be tested untl they come to Alcoa. They quite good.

Coach Tyler Robinson makes his return to Goddard field Friday night to help lead the Redskins against the Tornadoes (that sounds so weird saying that).

 

Anyway, it seems like Loudon has a young and inexperienced bunch, after losing 20 plus seniors off last years talented state semi-final team. It looks like Lenoir City took care of business against them the other night, William Blount took care of LC last week, and we took care of Willy B last night.

 

I think this is a major rebuilding year at Loudon and Alcoa starters will move the ball with relative ease and keep Loudon out of the endzone. Good chance to get some young guys valuable experience. Tornadoes...big.

Went about as I expected again this week.

 

First of all, Blount seems a lot better coached then they have been. Alcoa was struggling running to the outside on their D, and Shad had some pretty good calls on offense. Especially once he started pounding it up the middle on us and they had a little success. Willy B should field some solid teams in the next few years if Shad sticks around.

 

For Alcoa it was basically business as usual. The D-line lived in the backfield, we ran the ball solidly between the tackles, and had a beautiful pass from Myers to Clabough. It was good to have Shereef back, that's for sure. He gives us extra quickness we didn't have last week, (that was a beautiful cut on the TD run), McClurg ran hard and ran well, and I've been very impressed with Salter running the ball and barreling over defenders. We just need to work on not putting the ball on the ground this week after three pretty careless fumbles, other than that very good performance from the Nadoes.
