  1. This should be everyone's "feel good" team of the year! They lost 5 out of their first 6 games of the year without their head coach. As he was suffering through the loss of a loved one, so were his players. As he bounced back, so did his girls! I had the opportunity to watch them in a Thanksgiving tournament without their head coach and they seemed lost and confused. The second opportunity came at the NationsBank Classic in Greeneville when they hammered Wilson Central. Now they are 27-7! What an improvement! If your looking for a coach of the year, it's hard to look past the job he has done and the emotional rollercoaster he has had to over come. Ogan is a monster and I can wait to see here suit up in the blue and gold! Good Luck in the state tournament Lady Panthers and leave it all on the court!

  2. well, can you tell me how Walker Valley played so close to Mt. Juliet? or is the game alot worse than the score?

Actually I was there. Mt. Juliet was up by 20 in the second quarter. You have to understand that the NationsBank tournament is 4 days long. If you don't rest your kids at some point, they are going to get tired and sore. Mt. Juliet played their bench and Walker Valley got close in the end (Butler caught fire), but it was too late. Mt. Juliet ended up winning the tournament. Walker Valley could match up with Mindy and Suzanne a little, but Clark is a monster. You'll see Thursday!

  3. I think we will match up physically with MJ.

Physically, ummm...no way! Cleveland is a run and gun team! Mt. Juliet has two excellent posts in McFarlan and Clark. Burnett and whoever Coach Moore decides to put in the post are no match for these two. The only way Cleveland has a chance is if they guards are hitting their threes and the referees allow physical play underneath the basket. Mt. Juliet has the press breakers to slow the game down and physically wear your team out. We always played a special zone and jammed the hi-lo, but that depends solely on if the guards are hitting outside. If the wings are dropping threes, go ahead and start the bus. I'll say though, I've seen bigger upsets...and anything is possible in basketball.

  4. Burkey helped build the dynasty at OR, now he welcomes them into his house in a sectional game with a state tournament birth on the line. Can you smell the drama.....oops that is just my breathe after a eating a thickburger from Hardee's with extra onion! This is going to be one of the best games of the year. How do you think will win?

Greeneville by 1 on a Lyons 3-pointer at the buzzer! 59-58

  5. his name is Jim Smiddy and I would take anyone from his teams,he was a great man as well as a great coach!!!

Did you hear about that woman that is 15 victories from breaking Coach Smiddy's record number of wins? She is like in her 80's and still coahing. Her team was 15-15 this year.

My all-time favorite was Amy Geren from Bradley Central. She could shoot the ball from half court on a pull up J. She was Ms. versatility in the mid 90's. She hit a three pointer falling out of bounds in AAU....she won the 3 point contest during the final four beating Jason Terry. Those memories are forever!

  6. Showtime7,

How do you think Mt. Juliet would have faired if they played in the Tournament of Champions in Phoenix? You still think they would be undefeated? Also, do they deserve the national championship even though they didn't compete in that prestigous tournament? Just food for though.

BTW, I don't think anyone is gonna touch Mt. Juliet. The chemistry, talent, and coaching is there. Chris and John remember 2000 when they got upset by Hamilton. This is M.J's year...finally!
