  1. Jenny Bain from Hendersonville. Small girl with some good power. Always a threat at the plate.

I agree, we have played with her and against her and she is a great competitor.

  2. The new TPS Catalyst hits the ball well and has a big square type barrel, but they only offer it in -8 and -10. So, a -8 34 inch bat weighs 26 ounces and that is a bunch for many high school players. List price is in the $250 range and most sports stores will sell it with a 15%-22% discount.

  3. Riverdale then Brentwood right now. Next year Brentwood and far as pitching depth goes

Fallon and Cat are both great pitchers. But, unfortunately, if you check Riverdale's injury list today you will find out why you might need more than 1 and maybe more than 2 strong pitchers to be in the hunt at the end of the season.

  4. Hey speed, bring her on over, Devon and Goodpasture would love to have a tag team like that.

Sorry, I had bad information. The young pitcher turned out to be looking at the purple private school team and that deal didn't pan out. With their returning players and Kelsey C. healthy next year the Cougars will still have plenty of talent to make a run.

  5. Based on early results this year...I would have to go with Catalano.  She has been dominant so far.  If Riverdale can score a couple of runs a game for her...she will be difficult to beat.

FC has pitched well this year but in my opinion she relies too much on a single pitch. Please do not take this as a cut against FC but if the umpire does not like high pitches or the batter moves to the back of the box she is not as effective.

You may not see many teams do this during the season but at tournament time the better teams will adjust to take away a pitcher's best pitch.

  6. SODDY DAISY MAY LOSE ONE OF THERE TOURNEY GAMES BECAUSE THEY PLAY IN SO MANY,BUT I DOUBT THEY WILL LOSE ANY OTHER GAMES.........THEY HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE STATE AND I DON'T THINK ANYBODY WILL BEAT THEM!!!!!!!

The neat thing about the first regional game and the substate game is that you only have one chance to advance and there are plenty of AAA pitchers that can keep their team in the game. Then, one big hit or one big error can send someone home.

If you make it past those games it's double elimination - I don't think lightning will strike the Bucs twice in one week.

  7. Both of Riverdales pitchers are out. One will be back this week the other next week. Neither pitched one game this weekend. They went out last week which caused Riverdale to take third in last weeks tournament. Both seem to be minor injurys. Lincoln County's pitcher looked very, very good. They will win again. I need to  put Chelsea Owen on the top of the list concerning top state pitchers.

What classification is Chelsea? Does she wear #3?

  8. Wait a second, does EZELL have any upperclass pitchers left? Since Brit stopped pitching and Mac transferred away the balance of power has shifted slightly.

Coach F still does a fine job and I hope they make a charge at the end of the season.

PS - CA has really improved their squad. I hope they make a splash in their division this year.

  9. From what I saw last weekend, Father Ryan's team launched the ball out of the park with regularity.  Looks like spending time with Eric Brewer is paying dividends to them.  We play them today.  I'm looking forward to watching their swings with great detail.

Ryan has been killing the ball this spring. But, there is a old saying - great pitching beats great hitting. In elimination play at the Commando Classic, Brentwood did not allow Ryan a single base-runner.

Please remember that modern bats play a HUGE role in hitting homeruns. It is hard to compare the extra distance the new Mikken, Anderson, Synergy bats will give to an average hitter compared to the bats we used 6-8 years ago. These bats will turn a normal "can of corn" pop fly ball into a home run.

  10. Results from Single Elimation Tournament

Final Game Riverdale 3 Brentwood 2 8 Innings

Congratulations to Riverdale. This was a well played game and a well officiated game. Leaving the park at 5 minutes after midnight was late enough.

  11. The hit batters wasn't a coincedence, It was what most people call a bad pitch,or a mistake. Something that most, not all, people from your area don't think ever happens to them.

I'm not sure I understand your comment softball019. You said it wasn't a coincedence, are you saying the pitcher hit the same batter twice in a row on purpose?

Yesterday I heard that the HC pitcher hit at least 4 BHS batters - is that true? How many players do you have to hit before it is no longer a "bad pitch or a mistake"?

  12. Brentwood and Wilson Central were tied 0 - 0 at the end of regulation. Both teams scored 1 run in the 1st and 2nd extra inning. In the third inning Brentwood mishandled the leadoff bunt by Chelsea B, putting 2 runners on base. Ashely G hit a ball over the right fielders head. Both runners ended up scoring. Down 2 runs, Brentwood bunted their hitter to move the runner to third and that is the way the game ended. 4-2, all runs scored in extra innings.

  13. Great game tonight. Both teams fought hard. Eagles put together some nice hits, sure do wish that they could have scored a little sooner! Good job on the mound tonight. #4 threw harder at the end of the game after the ump made a poor call at the plate! nice defensive plays by leigh, sam, ally, shelby, well by all of the eagles!! Great team effort!! Good luck in the state tournament.

  14. Generally, when this transfer issue is discussed most people automatically think that private schools are going to raid the public schools to get their better players. However, high tutition costs at many private schools squelch that approach real fast. Please don't be fooled by anyone that responds by saying "yeah, but private schools give out scholarships", there is very, very little scholarship money that ever finds it's way to softball players.

My complaint is just the opposite. What about private school players that want to transfer to a public school - why should they be penalized more than public school to public school transfers?

The ultimate trump card is that little word "hardship". I may be wrong here, but I do not think the TSSAA elgibility documentation defines exactly what would be considered a hardship, but rather looks at each case independently. You can see how that might affect "who" is penalized and who is not.

  15. The 18u Nighthawks are looking for one starting pitcher and one strong hitter for the summer 2004 season. Please send an email to nh18ucoach@yahoo.com or call 615-714-1346 for tryout information.

  16. The TSSAA is very unfair on this issue. If you go to a public school you can move out of your zone into a different school zone and play right away. If you go to a private school the "zone" is greatly expanded. For example, if you attended Ryan, you could not move to the Franklin area and play for BGA or Franklin High without sitting out a year. You could move to Spring Hill or Hendersonville and play without a year penality.
