  1. Regardless of the scrimmage setup Coach Davis will be looking for toughness and effort. He will not be so concerned with mistakes scheme wise because he knows the kids are still learning. If they show good effort and toughness the wins will come this the fall.

Two paid assistants? No wonder he left. I knew he didn’t have as many coaches on staff at PCHS, but that is really something else. I thought he had two assistants that worked at PCHS but I could be wrong.

Larry Davis (retired teacher) and  Rusty Brewer were the two. All others were volunteers and had work or school outside of the county. It would really help Coach Brewer if the county stepped up and hired some teachers that could coach but that isn’t going to happen.

Right now counting his Dad, there are about 5 of his volunteer coaches saying they will help. No school staff coaches coming from PCHS.

I don’t think people realize that Derrick only had two paid assistants at Polk Co. It’s a wonder he was able to do as well as he did. So yes, you are correct, no staff coaches are coming from PCHS because the only teacher he had on his coaching staff was Rusty Brewer and he is now the HC at PCHS.

It is a basketball school period. I don’t know why coach Davis would even consider taking this job

It won’t be a basketball school in a few years if Derrick Davis takes this job. You have never seen anybody that works as hard as he does. You may beat his football teams but it won’t be because the kids are not prepared.

  5. Everyone needs to know that Coach Davis's resignation is not about soccer. Actually, it goes much deeper and there are things that led up to Coach Davis's decision that I would never put on a forum out of respect to those involved.

I will touch on one thing about the soccer field. When the soccer program started using the football practice field the soccer coaches had no problem with it, it was the parents that did the complaining. Not one person talked to Coach Davis about using the football field for soccer games until a small group of parents whose kids had reached high school and played soccer. One parent said "We are going to play on your field, if not you will be sorry". The school system was giving the soccer team options to build a new field and one of those parents said "I don't care if you build us the Taj Mahal of soccer complexes we are going to play on Larry G. Davis field". This same parent applied for the head football coaches position when Coach Davis got the job 19 yrs. ago (he had no real coaching experience) and he has hated the Davis family ever since and is now working in Central Office.

Let's say you are a coach and have worked tirelessly to keep the field and facilities in the best shape possible and then a group of parents from another sport comes and tells you what is going to happen on the field that you take care of through blood, sweat, and tears, not to mention the money it takes for weed control, over-seeding, fertilizer, aeration, and mowing twice a week from spring through fall. Keeping up a field done right cost a lot of money and is hard work.

What if the soccer coaches had come to Coach Davis and said if we use the field we will split the cost of expenses and help maintain the field? That never happened because the soccer coaches were glad to play on the football practice field that Coach Davis kept mowed and watered for them to use. All they had to do was line it off for games.

How much money has this small group of parents raised for a soccer field to be built?

I will say one more thing and I'm done with about the soccer issue, but this shows you some of the character of these parents. I know of one soccer dad that went out and raised money for the soccer team to travel, provide meals and lodging for the state tournament. When he gave the money to the soccer coaches he demanded that his family get free rooms since he raised the money and pitched a fit with the coaches until he got his way. That should tell you all you need to know!!!

Again, this is not the sole reason Coach Davis resigned but you can see a pattern of what he has been dealing with for the last 5-6 years.

People are sometimes blind or spineless when it comes to standing up for what is right. (i.e. the superintendent.)

I don't have many posts here, but this one is warranted. Your posts are classless. Derrick did more for that football program than has ever been accomplished there. He was on his on a lot working on that field, getting it ready for games, lining it, etc. Derrick Davis accomplished more with less than anyone I know. Polk County WILL miss Derrick Davis. Soccer on the game field that he maintains, mows, lines, and takes care of???  A lot of time goes into maintaining these fields. I don't blame him for wanting soccer to stay off of the field. I wouldn't want them on the field I had to maintain either. When someone takes care of the field it is perfectly normal to want to monitor who and what uses it. Your name calling at him is ridiculous and pathetic. You use to get on here and talk about how great of a coach he was back when Polk was really good several years ago. If people don't like the way things are going then they can choose to leave which is what he has chosen to do. You haven't every said any of this crap to his face. You need to back off and leave the man alone! DD is a good friend and is one of the best defensive football minds around the area. He will be greatly missed leading your program. I GUARANTEE it.

PS- Bashing him on these boards... That's something a "petty little man" or a "sorry man" would do in my book. It sounds like to me Heath Culpepper and Derrick Davis need to talk out their differences like men instead of you on here bashing him with personal attacks.

Amen to this post by SPHS09!!!! Most people in Polk Co. feel the same way you do. It's just a hand full of idiots that share Chuck's thoughts. I know wherever Derrick lands that they will appreciate him more than was he was ever appreciated by administration at his alma mater.

  7. I would like to know one thing. Why wouldn't Coach Satterfield shake hands with the Polk staff after the game? He just walked straight off of the field into the dressing room. Was he upset that Polk didn't throw one pass in the second half or was he upset that Polk's JV's took three knees inside the 10 at the end of the game to keep from making the score 46 - 0?

  8. Okay lets just say... Who cares about the Polk-Meigs, Central-Meigs, Polk-ER and Central-ER games. They dont matter anymore. The only thing that matters now is my main man D. Davis preparing his boys to get ready to whip them chargers. Coach Derrick has no discipline whatsoever. I think its hilarious that you can deal drugs and not be kicked off but heaven for bid if you take your jersey and pads off and go to the locker room then you do get kicked off. Polk County is fixing to blow everyones heads off because I can assure you ole Cody Price is going to roll over all you charger pu tangs. My little man Ty Lee might just have to show you boys from Central what "Speed" really is. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Polk wins this one.

This has been a good thread until Ryan Qualls gets on here and starts running his mouth. He has about 20 different screen names. Central fans please ignore his comments, he is just jealous that he was not tough enough to make it in football and some of these Polk players are tough enough and are even better baseball players than he was. There is one thing that he was able to make all-state in and that was cooking hotdogs and face painting. If he doesn't make the baseball team at RSCC maybe they will let him cook them some dogs and wave the team flag when someone hits a home run. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

  9. Basin was supposed to scrimmage Central this past Saturday. But my understanding was that coach Stone called Central and told them that they would not be able to make the scrimmage. I am glad they were able to work things out so the kids are able to play a little football.

Do you think Basin will stay if Polk shows to make this a 4-way scrimmage? Or do you think they will tuck their tail and run back up the mountain?

  10. I just heard that Basin backed out of a scrimmage with Mcminn Central that was scheduled for this past Saturday. What is going on at Basin? First they back out of a contract to play Polk in the regular season. Then they back out of the jamboree in Loudon. Now they have backed out of a scrimmage. Do they plan on playing anyone this year?

  11. Why don't the people of the community demand an answer instead of just asking for one? I agree with you toot. It is a cop out. I have heard from different people that Coach Stone is making all of these decissions and having a few cronies carry out the plan. This way it looks like he has no say in what is being done.

  12. If the players and the fans are so upset with the coach why don't they have a meeting with him and tell him that they are not pleased and would like to keep playing Polk Co.? It looks like the coach at Basin if fearful of Polk and would rather forfeit than just play a game he knows he is not going to win. Something should be done about the poor leadership in Copper Basin.
