  1. William Johnson wasn't very successful against West Nashville's Mighty Toppers from Hillwood. I believe WC has had more NFL talent come out that school in the last 30 years than any other program in Metro . Plenty of tradition at WC.

Whoa! Did I "ruffle your feathers" or something? If so then I truly apologize. I am not on this topic to create a situation by any means. Did Johnson win at Stratford in 2003-2004? Yes! Did he win at MCHS in 2005-2006? No! That's all I am saying. Again I am sorry if that got you all bent out of shape.

    Thanks Gametime & PoleCat.

FBfan26: Davis is a good "up and coming" coach who deserves a shot to lead a Metro school. He would be a good choice if the Cobras chose to go that route.

  2. I went to many Springfield games over the last few years and several practices. The fans packed the stands and the games were very entertaining. They won many games and lost few with Myers as Head Coach. The practices were organized, well run with all the coaches actively helping kids be the best they can be. College coaches were actively recruiting several student athletes. How many of these kids have written college offers? The staff truly cared about the kids on and off the field. I do not know the new coach who is a home town guy who more than likely will give it his all to the community and school but it just wasn't his time due to the previous coaches' success. He might do fine with time but this year was going to be special for Myers, his staff, the players and the community but the Principal ruined it with his obvious agenda. He should be fired.

  3. Hillsboro beat Franklin 28-0 in the 1977 season. Franklin won 35-30 in 1978. The Rebels have won four straight over Hillsboro since reclassification in 2008. The series goes back to at least 1968 (as far as I can find records), with Franklin going 1-4 from 1968-72, (Franklin was 17-33-1 during that stretch, ). The two did not play again until 2008. Franklin was 40-12 during the last four years overall, Hillsboro 24-23, but that includes 2008 when the Burros went 13-2, winning the state championship with losses to Franklin and MBA. Guess that makes them 11-21 over the last three years.

    Franklin leads the series 6-5.

I'm pretty sure they played to a 14-14 tie in 2007 in the controversial thunderstorm game. Never finished the ball game.

  4. PC has not been a well coached team since Fitzgerald left. He left them loaded with the best QB in the State in Deaute Mason who recently was named preseason all conference for Ala A & M. They have been irrelevant since DM's departure. Sure, many of their kids have opportunities at Junior Colleges which require the family and student to come up with a large sum of $$$ for living accommodations and expenses that are not paid for by the JC. PC claims Tiny Richardson (Ensworth) and Nick Hill (Duke - MLK) so their school statistics are a little skewed. McGavock, Overton, Cane Ridge, Maplewood, Hillsboro and maybe Antioch are all better metro football programs currently. I know that most of these schools have higher enrollment but when you add in the numbers that MLK High School has, it probably equals out.

  5. Don't blame anyone for looking after their families' best interest. Having said that, i believe that Coach Harrell is a great coach and person. He will do well if Administration will find him some help. Harrell is a winner and a disciplinarian. Good luck to the Spartans

  6. Congrats to Janel Pate of Hillsboro. 9th grader who wins both 100 and 200 Tennessee State Title. Following in the footsteps of Quanisha Sales (Hillsboro)who won it a few years ago. Also congrats to Coach Dave Young for having the patience to coach year after year with success.

  7. BTW, i wish Blade would start scheduling an opponent for OR in week 0. Here we are again in 2012 and we are off in week 0, while Farragut gets good quality work in against a very good opponent in DB. I have never been one to claim i know much of anything, but i think that one game gives Farragut a distinct advantage over Oak Ridge in week 1. Just me! I wish he would stop doing this. As they say. A team improves the most from game 1 to game 2! C'mon Coach!

What about a tough scrimmage the Wed. or Thurs. of week 0. This way the coaches/players can personally go see Farragut in week 0. Farragut has been a thorn in OR side, but this should change this year imo.

  8. My prediction..... Principal gets fired after next year. Successful football coach let go for no reason. Basketball coach hangs it up after 20 years. The football stadium has been packed the past 3 years and probably will be again for the first game or so, then it will go bad.... real bad... . The community is not happy with this current Principal. Maybe the new coach and his new team will prove me wrong?

  9. What will coach's coaching staff look like? As I understand coaches Southerland, Myers, Fite, Carneal, and maybe Clemons are all attending other schools. How will this affect our program? All these coaches were very good with our young men, and we wish them all the best. Just do not know how Coach Wilson will create a staff this late in school year that will motivate these young men. Word is that there is a lot of issues with the team and coaches in charge. Is it true that Brandon Farmer may be headed to White House and that Terrence Summers may be headed to a private school? Just rumors but wondering if any truth in these rumors! What offense will Coach Wilson run, Defense will he bring to our program, and what emphasis will he focus on the special teams? Good luck, from what I see in the news paper Coach Wilson may not have a life outside of school and football. Good luck and you have our support coach!

Springfield better hope that Summers and Farmer stick around for their senior year. They don't win a game if both leave. They don't win more than 4 with both especially if all coaches named above leave.

  10. There are rumors that the coaches arent the only ones who may be moving to other schools. We may not recognize next year's Jacket team. I think the offense that we run will be different (back to run heavy) and this may affect/effect our play makers playing time. Only time will tell. The past three years has been exciting at time with the Meyers spread offense. I look for us to go back to more grind it/time possession football.

What i am hearing from your post is that the Jackets will go back to a boring style offense with most likely little success in terms of wins especially if key players elect to go elsewhere.

  11. As a loyal reader of the Springfield boards, respecter of the Commissioner and Kevin38, and a overall fan of District 10-AAA, I am puzzled to read of this "support" the Yellowjacket fanbase speaks of as it relates to the football program at Springfield. "IF" the community is in such support of Coach Myers, his staff, and the student athletes of Springfield, why then is it such a stretch to suggest that the best way of showing this is simply by your attendance? If a person were to ask me if Springfield was a community that supports its team...I would have a hard time answering that question given the number of fans who put forth the effort to travel and support!....are these "supporters" protesting the principal by not attending? Is that the reason the crowds are small? The team has excellent participation as far as number of kids on the roster. To my knowledge, Springfield is not a suppressed area econonically. Commissioner...please weigh in!

p.s. Why the exodus of 3 possibly 5 assistant coaches prior to the announcement of the head coach being dismissed?

Springfield's home games brought big crowds. Do you think the assistants that are leaving knew something was in the works all along.... i think so

  12. This situation is now crystal clear. The Principal probably has a buddy he would like to appoint to this position. Myers has done so much for the kids in his program on and off the field. He will be missed greatly. The program will suffer. Granted, the team didn't advance in the playoffs as far as Myers would have liked but they were very competitive and exciting to watch.

  13. After reading posts on here, you are the only coach remaining to not watch the ship sink. You did coach with Moreno one season and then you jumped off the ship, correct?

In 2009, Hillsboro lost the first two games against Maplewood and Whites Creek. My football coaching duties at HHS stopped the next day. Head Coach requested a change in offensive philosophy. Alvin Fite continued to coach through the season and was not asked to return by HC.

  14. Maybe I am out of the loop,so name some of the good help he had for me. As for wins, the players made the difference then not so much the coaching, and the talent has dropped,do you agree?

I am not about to grade out his assistant coaches for obvious reasons. I can honestly say that Coach M is a good guy and a very good D Coordinator that put his trust where he shouln't have and it cost him multiple assistant coaches (some that wanted out and others that wanted to stay). Believe it or not but I specifically told the former Principal to hire Moreno and Clay from HL before the last hiring process began.

As far as addressing your last statement/question....i have too little information about the talent level over the last 2 years to agree or disagree with your statement.

  15. I think Moreno should have never been let go. He had very little help. He knows as much football as anyone, if not more. Assistant coaches are difficult to get in metro and he had basically none.

Homer Smith will go down as an offensive genious, god rest his soul. He was a great O Coordinator and a great man. He would never have been a good Head Coach due to his personality. I think you are nieve to believe Burros former coach had little help. Granted, he does know as much football or more than most , he was unable to get enough wins to keep his job for whatever reason.

  16. Seems like Hillsboro wants to take their time for some odd reason. Drawing things out way too long if you ask me. Anyone have a time-table?

Columbia is another program taking their time in order to make the best decision. Background checks seem to be more and more extensive these days thus taking more time than in the past. I'm hearing positive things coming for both programs. Spring ball is still a few months away so there is no real need to hurry imo.

  17. I actually have heard good things about Hillsboro and its athletes.many people have told me that the job was a sleeping giant. Do you think with the right coaching staff that they could make some noise? I'm not too familiar with metro football

Hillsboro has two middle schools that feed it .... JT Moore Middle and West End Middle. JT Moore has historically been very successfull with a great man as their HC. Hillsboro has benefited from his success greatly. West End unfortunately has not been successful. Success breeds success. Aydellot developed a winner and left for Riverdale. Blade came in and elevated the program one more notch imo. Some may say that the change in district caused the wins to disappear others may say the revolving coaching staff under former coach was to blame. I do know that $$$ was a factor, and the better competition were keys to Hillsboro opting to join the Williamson County Region. Open enrollment (Academies) seems to be the next step for all metro schools so the players will find the winning programs and the best coaching staffs around. Hillsoro's current principal will hire a good coach, the question is, will he do enough to help the new coach bring in enough good teachers who also can be good coaches/mentors for kids. Good luck to the Burros

  18. Any news on the search for the new head coach?

I don't know too much about Columbia but i do know that they have been real good the last 4 to 5 years especially on the offensive side of the ball. These guys should strongly consider hiring from within. They obviously have some good coaches currently on the staff given their record over the last few years.

  19. Sometimes it's not about money or atmosphere. OR has a lot of tradition and I am sure Blade is doing really well financially. However, if I am not mistaken he has family here in the midstate. How about it 14NCS? What do you think about the chance of seeing Blade around here sometime soon.

I need to change my user name officially to 14NCS at some point. New Orleans was quite fun last Monday night. I haven't spoken to Blade this season so i do not know his willingness to relocate. His parents live in Franklin so i wouldn't rule out his return to the mid-state at some point. I doubt that he would want to teach full time and be a HC in Williamson Co with the demands that they put on teachers but i could be wrong. Other than the Maryville hill to climb , i think he is happy in OR as they love good Football up there.

  20. Might want to look up the definition of the word FACT. Number 1 is not a FACT it is what someone would like to call an OPINION. Here is a FACT for you since UT is in the SEC then the RB's at UT are SEC caliber RB's. Hope you know the difference between a FACT and OPINION now! :thumb:

Thanks for the education Swipes. Your RB wouldn't start for any SEC school with the exception of KY who beat you. Everything i said is true and all Vol fans know it to be true. Fulmer would still be your coach if Butch Davis wouldn't have said he would take the job before pulling out at the last minute.... is this an opinion of mine or is it a fact?
