  1. What time do regions start tonight? I'm guessing that they are at the high school in Greeneville. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

Yes, they are at the High School and I believe weigh ins are at 4:30 and wrestling begins at 6 or 6:30. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  2. Is anybody from our region awake?

Greeneville go it handed to them this past week at the Smokey Mtn Duals going 3-6 overall with losses to Lafayette GA, Larue KY, Bob Jones AL, Greenback, Gibbs, & Carrolton GA and wins against Hughes OH, Pigeon Forge, & Halls. We have a whole lot of improving and maturing to do if we want to compete against SH & DB.

  3. BCB,

Looks like is Tee off to a good start this year, congrats. Gotta love them Greene Devils!

    Porkchop,

How'd you do in the tournament?

Porkchop lost 1-0 to Manley in a real battle in the finals. Manley is an outstanding wrestler. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Shout out to Justin Myers getting his first major tourney championship at 160!

  4. Just heard it thru the grapevine, that porkchop will join, Zach Watson, Trent Larue and Nick Maxwell, 4 state medal winners at 112 this weekend.

Say it ain't so porkchop, go battle crawlinvol at 119. The class is hard enough with the other 3 plus what the GA boys bring.

    BCB,

My inside info says there will be no Porkchop at 112 for Catholic. After Christmas, could be a possibility. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  5. Thanks porkchop!

How did you do at camp this summer. Coach Brimer said it is a tough place to spend your time off.

I may have to wait till Clarksville to see you guys. But that is alright, I have my GHS Wrestling shirt out and clean ready to support you guys.

Porkchop loved this "camp" and wished it would have been for two months instead of one. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Also Mr. Chas Norton attended this one as well.

Seriously jchs76, thank you for your support when we are on the road in the mid-state. Hopefully you will get a chance to see us in Cville this year but I think it may be a long shot with SH & DB the early favorites.

  6. Forman was a 3 time region champion. Region I was a four district region 1. Top 4 from each district went region in a full 16 man brackett. Bristol at one end and Cleveland and Bradley at the other.

Forman did not wrestle for GHS as a Freshman

When you won a region back then, you really won a big time event.

How about I take this one step further and say if you placed at the region tourney (say 4th at 103) back in the old days (1988) this was an acheivement! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

As an example, if you took the State Placers at 112lb weight class from this past year, four of those guys would have been in the old Region One. How would some of the other weight classes turn out?

  7. # best opportunities to have region 1 wrestlers in the finals: Bishop, King, Usary (alphabetical order for the nonthoughtful)

#We may have someone show up out of nowhere as well. We usually do every other year.

    # I love Wrestling Trivia, Great about Bishop not losing a match in two years in Region, I know King has not lost in Region 1 while in High School. Others.

#Also I was shocked how few 4 time Region Champs we have in R1. King will be up for his 4th. Who are the others.

I think Bristol and SH each had one or more?

    KingGreene were you one?

I do believe Usary has a chance to be a 4x region champ as well. I'm thinking he won the region in 8th, 10th, & 11th Grade. I believe he lost to KingGreene (112) as a freshman. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. Also I think KingGreene was a 3x champ. Does Greeneville have a 4x region champ? Hey noonesfool, what about G. Foreman?

  8. OK guys, every year there is a freshman or newcomer who comes in and makes some noise. How about some of you Region One guys start name dropping. I guarantee SH will have some newcomers to make an impact. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  9. He's looking into his options but still undecided.

I would try cutting out some earholes for the masks. If you can"t work out the kinks with the masks you should at least make Porkchop dress up like Gorgeous George for all tournament finals he's in.

    /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Gorgeous George? Is this noonesfool's alter ego? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I heard there were some characters on the oldschool Topper Wrestling Team. I have heard there might even be some pictures floating around. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  10. I would think Kingsport (the most solid team weight by weight) should be favored, as I did last year as well. But you can't count out the Toppers and Devils. Both of whom have made many trips to the state duals

I have got to agree as DB seems to have a solid lineup from top to bottom. However, from what I seen last year and knowing the sheer numbers they have, SH could be the team to beat by season's end as some of their youngsters develop. The Greene Devils may have too many holes to fill this year to be competitive with DB & SH. Is there any other teams capable of of getting into the mix this year, maybe DC?

  11. I would add Herold from MW (2nd @ 135 LY) as a contender somewhere in the 135-145 weight classes. I would also guess Stull from SH will be at 145. The only other thing I would second guess you on would be picking Snyder third at 125 after winning region at that weight class last year. With that said, I think you have some solid picks.

    Again I say, It should be a great year for R1 wrestling. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

You are correct about Herold, I had indeed forgot him. Herold will compete for a Regional Title. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Anybody want to throw out some predictions for Team Duals?

  12. All right here are some very preliminary predictions. I realize some wrestlers will move up or possibly down but here goes.

    112- Mann-DB, Tapia-SH

    119- King-G, Pearce-SH

    125- Wilson-SE, Mann-DB, Snyder-SH

    140- Usary-SH, Locklear-G, Stull-SH

    160- ?

    171- King-TH

    189- Kilgore-MW

    215- Carter-DB

    HWT- Fleming-DB, Simms-G

Add any wrestlers that I may have ommited that has an opportunity to place in the Region or if you know of a wrestler in the wrong weight class.

  13. I think that after attending the state duals the last couple of years that Clarksville does a solid job hosting this event. Having said that I would rather see this tourney held in a larger arena. It stinks having to go back and forth between gyms to follow your team. Still, I dont want to sound petty because of this reason alone. As a proud father of a Greene Devil Wrestler (alumnus as well) I would follow them to _ _ Egypt to watch them wrestle. We should all remember whatever will make this sport grow is the most important factor of all no matter if it is Clarksville or wherever.

  14. The kid did get bit. I spoke with the trainer that saw the teeth marks. A person in the stands said they saw it happen. Not saying it wasn't accidental, but it did happen.

School can appeal it I believe and if they have evidence that indicates no one was bitten, they should be able to get it overturned. Of course they should have done this early in the week and not as the region tourney seeding is taking place since the kid won't be able to participate.

A few problems with what you state. First off the Springfield Coach came over to Greeneville's coach after the match and said he had talked to his wrestler and that he did not get bit. Next, a person in the stands may have thought they seen it happen but myself(sitting about twenty ft. away) and many others saw what actually did and didn't happen. Chris did not bite his opponet. The kid gave a hard crossface on the mouth area(nothing wrong with that) and that left the mark on his arm. If not for the irate parent just about running on to the mat I do not think the ref would have called anything. To the point, we could argue all night long about the details but the bottom line is a very questionable call by an official has taken away a young man last chance to compete (as he is a senior.) The TSSAA could have taken several avenues but chose the easiest of all ...NOTHING!!!!! From my days of competing to this very day one thing has not changed the TSSAA is not about whats right for the kids but what is the easiest way for them. For everyone reading this, imagine your son being put in this situation. How would you react? No, I am not Chris' dad. Just a very angry fan!!!

  15. Little Usary pinned in the 2nd period.  The match was hard fought but the Crockett kid gassed bad and that took a lot of fight out of him.  The score was 69-6 but I feel that the Crockett kids fought harder than the score indicates.  There were no easy matches or quick pins.

The Crockett kid has a heart condition that effects his stamina. That is what he told Matt at the JV Tourney.

  16. Have not seen Crockett's 103 but Science Hill's is Brett Usary.  He is the younger brother of Sam and Bo but a lot better looking than those other two.  He is 4-1 on the season varisty with 2 pins 1-0 on the season JV.  We'll see what he's made of at Catholic this weekend.  VolKing, is King your last name?  If it is, we wrestled together.

Yes, it is me. Matt went 3-1and finished 2nd this past weekend at the JV tournament at 103.
