  1. Let's be reasonable. TSSAA is going to put a multiplier on "open zoned schools". It might take 2-3 more years. Alcoa is the primary reason for this due to their effectiveness is using this gap in the rule books. If you look at the TSSAA over the last 2 decades they have always moved to expand and close gaps. Remember the 3 divisions to 5, then from 5 to 7, then from 7 to 8. At this point there are more kids claiming state champions in one year than in 3 years in the 3 divisions years. All in the name of "fairness."

The problem with Alcoa is not that they keep winning it is the way in which they are doing it that has caused the issue. They are clearly the best team in the state, but at a 3A level the TSSAA is going to level this field out. To their credit they have used the rules fully to their advantage, however putting 96 points on teams in a game and with 7 consecutive state titles and with the gap continuing the grow the TSSAA is going to put new rules in place and cut their legs out.

Don't be sad "AlcoasPaintedBridg" you have replaced Brentwood Academy has the most hated school in the state. Tough luck finding any out of regions games and I hope you can pass the hat for gas money because after this contract year I have heard that Rakin has lost the few friends he did have and no one is scheduling you all. Good luck playing NC, GA and KY teams and I hope gas comes down.

  2. Departing Offensive Starters (listed from BCBS Bowl Depth Chart)

    Austin Tallent (QB)

    Darrell Warren (TB)

    Taharin Tyson (FB)

    Steven Isom (WR)

    Caleb Mangnum (OL)

    Derek Evans (OL)

    Departing Defensive Starters

    Warren (DE)

    Tallent (S)

    Isom (CB)

    Jonivan Henry (DE)

    Stanley Johnson (DT)

    Jordan Patrick (LB)

As for what Alcoa has next year....They're line is still pretty much intact. They only lose 2 listed starters but I believe there was one guy that subbed a lot so technically you're only losing 1 starter. The key position that looks like its going to hurt will be at the Running Back Position. Vanderbilt Hambrick returns but anyone that has seen him knows he's not a big guy. Alcoa, right now, does have that big bruiser back like Warren and Tyson were. I think #44 Zach Chapman is going to have to step up to fill that role. He's a big kid that got lots of playing time this year.

The other main battle/question mark will be the Quarterback play. Its honestly Landon Turbyfill's job to lose. He's been the back up all year long and fits Rankin's system more. Turbyfill has had some injuries in the past though so that will be something to keep an eye on. Turbyfill will be battling current Freshman QB Austin Morgan for the starting position. Morgan has a better arm but isnt as mobile as Turbyfill. He's more of your prototypical pocket QB. Whats holding him back the most is the fact he's a bone yard. He's really gonna have to pack on some pounds in the offseason to have a strong chance. Korey Bach will pretty much be used as a clean up QB. He's got an average arm but is just too big to be an effective QB. Wouldn't surprise me if he doesnt get moved to another position to fit his play. This all according to what the Middle School has coming up. Ive only seen them play about a half this year.

The key to Rankin that Ive seen the past couple years is once he gets a solid lead he puts in the backups. Giving those kids playing time means a ton down the line as they get older. Alcoa will no doubt be ready

  3. BC. I not sure that I agree with you about the 2000 team. Alcoa has had a proud history since the beginning(1919) This school system has always been focused on being the best. I am so proud of all the accomplishments since 2000, but This has always been a proud and accomplished School.

You do have to admit though Coach Abbott that Alcoa's win/loss record in the 90s was fairly mediocre. As much as I loved Coach Phelps I think if we had a top notch coach like we do now from 90-04 we could have done a lot better then what we did. Not trying to knock Phelps at all, he's blood and Id do anything for the guy but guys like Rankin,GQ and Ricky Bowers are just on another level.

I think 2000 planted the seed but we didnt have much say in how it was going to grow

  4. What's this whole thing about Rankin cant coach? The only people I hear say that is Rutherford Co people who felt he took all of the talent while at Riverdale and now at Alcoa. They guy can coach...PERIOD. Personally, no, I dont think he's better then GQ and I never will but you've seen what Alcoa has been able to do against very good Maryville teams since Alcoa has had him as coach. GQ is high on the list but Rankin is right there behind him and anyone that doesnt realize that probably needs to stop watching football.

  5. Im gonna say Alcoa and Maryville are easily 1 and 2. Im going to leave #3 blank for now though. Greeneville has the hype to be the best but simply put in 15 games, they didnt play anyone. That hurts greeneville a lot when looking at "whos best". Its the Boise St rule, we cant count you until you do something impressive. If you dont slip the Devils in then give the spot to Webb. Everyone else doesnt really matter to me.

  6. Maryville will probably find someone pretty adequate to replace him. They always seem to. I can remember back in 2000 when we had Phillips penciled in as the QB and the money counterfeiting scandal broke and we had to have another QB step up. Our backup QB (can't remember his name, it was Nick something though) came out of nowhere and had a very solid season and we won state. Two years later we thought we were set with a junior QB named Alex Rouse. Rouse tore his ACL at the first of the year and a sophomore, Cade Thompson, stepped in and led us to a state championship. After that we had no idea where our QB would come from and another stepped up. Last year Juhlin left and QB was a tossup this year. Robinette had played it as a freshman (IIRC) on the freshman team, but hadn't gotten many snaps there as a starter. Still, seems like Quarles pulls them out of the woodwork. They all have different skill sets, but they seem to be pretty talented in one way or another.

I think you're thinking of Nick Giles. Im not sure but was it Phillips or a Maples kid that was suppose to be QB that year? I know he missed the game because of the money thing and Merritt took over for at least the Alcoa game

  7. Maybe Maplewood and CAK should set up some joint venture and contract with a trophy company to get a good deal on a silver ball. What will the inscription read - "Good Enough To Be Runners-Up, Even If The Record Books Don't Show It"?

Did CAK play Alcoa tougher than Goodpasture? Yes. Did Maplewood play Greeneville equally close? Sure. But seriously, all of this chutzpah exuding from and/or for the non-title game teams is getting a little stale. Both CAK and Maplewood had great seasons; there is no need to diminish those seasons by taking glory away from those runner-up programs who did what they had to do in the bracket they were given to get to the title game - win.

I think its clear we need a BCS for high school football!!! The playoffs clearly arnt working! :roflol:

  8. Well, I was trying to watch the game online tonight. About halftime or so the video started getting very chopping and having to buffer every 5 seconds so I changed to the radio. That was the WORST radio crew I have heard in my entire life. The main announcer (Jeff?) was a huge Smyrna fan. On top of that I had no idea what was going on half the time. I still don't actually know what happened when Smyrna missed the FG because all the announcer kept yelling was, "He rolled it in! He rolled it in!" I had no idea what that meant, but he finally at least said they missed it so that kind of helped.

Ohh yea, and they were criticizing the fact that Maryville ran the option with quarterbacks. Really silly.

You would think for the state title game they could get unbiased announcers who were actually talented, or sub par at least. Ridiculous.

However, glad Maryville got the win. Was very scary. I had a lot of confidence at halftime that MHS would win because we were up and it looked like our offense couldn't be stopped (we couldn't stop theirs either). Still, I figured we could get up by 2 scores and then cruise. That didn't happen when Robinette went out, but we fought and still got the W. Nicely done.

Was it followed by GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL?? If so you may have been listening to the wrong kinda football haha

  9. Well like I said you making yourself look lame or do I need to go into details. You act like we didn't blow out teams or run up the score...Yall didnt even think about getting in the game til the 4th with a few min left when we played and you know it...Nothing wrong with going for the state record because those kids deserve it. You just sound like a hater to me and most of us ALCOA fans...

Stink, Im not gonna chase you back and forth between threads trying to defend myself. Im the first one to admit when Alcoa does something wrong and I get bashed for it. Im also the first one that will admit when another team does something wrong...and still get bashed for it. I openly admitted that discipline cost Alcoa the 01 title. That's not news to anyone. Ive also openly admitted that Rankin/Reid have brought something to Alcoa that they never had before (Coaching and a tremendous weight program). If you feel the need to discuss this matter further with me you're more then welcome to add me on facebook and send me a message. Ill gladly talk to you about it all you would like.

  10. Common Tornadoes 74 let it be already.... Congrats to the Devils again and way to represent the East.... :thumb:

Hey, I said my peace and moved on to watch the Maryville game. It was someone else, sadly and ALCOA COACH, that felt the need to come here with trying to make things "personal". If you dont like my opinions then you're more then welcome to ignore my posts. Ive got nothing personal against Stink and I acknowledge him everytime I see him out. Where the sudden personal attack came from though I dont know nor will it effect my feelings towards him. Thats all Ive got to say.
