First of all .....There are no such things as "Hometown Refs". The officials are assigned by someone who doesn't care who wins the game.

Now, the officials tonight lost control of the game late. If they would have tossed a player from each side when all the cheap shots started that would have ended it. They didn't and things got pretty ugly near the end. BOTH SIDES.

You must have never dealt with the Athens officials association in ANY sport, ru4mocs. Their reputation proceeds them. That's why Cleveland High School refuses to use them and uses the Chattanooga association in both basketball and football.

I said these refs did a BAD job tonight.

But I also know a lot of refs and (No matter what people think) they do not care who wins.

I go to games all over the area. EVERY game I go to, doesn't matter which side I sit on, the fans of that team think the refs are out to get their team. :!:

  2. I know it's early, but what does the field look like in TN for the 2009-2010 season? Combined poll predictions? This is what I'm thinking.

    1) Baylor School

    2) Soddy Daisy

    3) Bradley Central

    4) McCallie

    5) Cleveland

    6) Father Ryan

    7) Brentwood Academy

    8) Christian Brothers

    9) Independance

    10) MBA

    What are you guys thinking?

Soddy ahead of Bradley? I don't see it. Even with Soddy getting Taylor and Henry, Bradley still #1.

  3. From the Clevland Banner on Thursday:

"Bradley remembers last year’s controversial 35-21 loss at Soddy-Daisy and will be looking for some payback in front of a big Bear Stadium crowd.

“That was a tough loss last year and our guys remember it,” Coach Floyd said of a couple of key controversial calls that went against the Bears, plus questionable hit that put a Bear starter on the sideline for much of the contest."

Old crybaby Damon had his hometown refs tonight and one guy who called holding at least five times (anytime Soddy-Daisy had a big gain) and he still lost. Game was very similar to Damon's senior year when the Trojans beat him 14-10 and the clock mysteriously goes blank with 3 minutes to go and Bradley driving. You know going in at Bradley you will have to beat more than the 11 opposing players, but tonight may have been the worst one yet. Oh well, not a great performance by the Trojans but any win in that place is a good one so we will take it.

Soddy-Daisy has got to correct the little mistakes. This is week six and twice tonight we have 9 players on the field. Once on punt team and once on punt return. The punt return mistake gave Bradley a first down on the fake. Secondly, we have a first down with a 1:20 left and we are in shotgun handing the ball off. Take 4 knees and get the heck out of dodge. Don't chance a fumble or turnover. Overall good job on the victory, let's work on being a "football smart" team and correcting the little things.

    Marvin Lopez (Cleveland)

    Bradley Colbuagh (Bradley)

    Trevor Herron (Bradley)

    Vince Augilar (Bradley)

    Tyler Pitts (Bradley)

    Tucker Bolton (Bradley)

    Campbell Lewis (Soddy Daisy)

    Isiah Simpson (Walker Valley)

OK ........ Why would you leave off Chris Augilar and Ethan Hames?

    ^_^

  5. Everyone,

It was a good, exciting day of wrestling.

I don't have the time to go into detail tonight on the tournament (stupid grad school homework) but I will get complete results and a write-up posted in the next day or so.

    Please? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  6. Granted it would be hard, but GET BRANDS BACK! He made UTC a national competitor and he's been the only one that could put them there. An all star coaching line up couldn't do it which was a testament to his impact as a coach. He made such an impact because he made his team believe they could be that underdog that could do anything. If not him then maybe Steve Hamilton, the coach the wrestling team voted to become the coach when Terry left. Credentials don't make a coach a great one. Look at Steve Martin, the former Great Bridge and now Old Dominion coach who has done great things with that university. Hamilton may not be the answer, but someone that is an INFLUENTIAL COACH who is supposed to be the general for his troops when they go to battle one on one on the mat. UTC needs a coach that the wrestlers actually respect and believe that their general is prepared to lead them threw battle given any circumstance. If you don't believe me ask the wrestlers who are around now and the wrestlers that were around during Brands era and see the dramatic differences of how they portray their coach. Not an individual, but the majority because I dare you to find a single one that would speak negatively of Brands much less the majority of the starting line up who openly express their negative opinions. Whats funny is I personally know the individual that clashed with Brands the most and as he literally just told me as I write this, "There is no doubt he was a great coach, we clashed but he definitely always made us better than I thought we could be." So there it is from the horses mouth. Search, question, and make your own opinion.

Look's like you are going to have to live with Bono a while longer.

  7. I don't see your point? UTC should be picking up kids from GA and TN they should shouldn't they? Garza's brother went to UTC didn't he so it's not like that was a big recruiting coupe. My point is that for a solid D1 program, I would think that Bono would be tapping into the midwest much more than he has.....

My point is ............. you don't have to get wrestlers from New Jersey to have a good class. Several state champs and a couple of National Champs.

You posted: "Off the top of my head, Newberry has 5 NJ state placers on the roster, 3were state champs (Oliver, Salek, and Byrnes) and the other 2 (Newman and Fobes) were placers. Salek NHSCA NAtional Champ, Fobes, was an NHSCA runnerup.... They've got guys from MD, Florida, and GA, KS, etc."

I posted UTC's Freshmen ........ that include Several State winners, guys from Florida, Texas, Arizona along with TN, GA.

  8. Newberry has outrecruited UTC! Off the top of my head, Newberry has 5 NJ state placers on the roster, 3were state champs (Oliver, Salek, and Byrnes) and the other 2 (Newman and Fobes) were placers. Salek NHSCA NAtional Champ, Fobes, was an NHSCA runnerup.... They've got guys from MD, Florida, and GA, KS, etc.

I think they are doing a good job getting kids who can compete at the next level but who might not get a ton of D1 recognition, but all 5 of the guys I mentioned were D1 recruits. Looking at UTC's roster I would think that Newberry is getting a nice mix of kids from all over the nation and getting results.... I would say that they are effectively outrecruiting UTC.

    UTC 24 Newberry 16 With 2 UTC starters out of the lineup. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

Niko Brown . State Champ, Florida

Josh Condon : 3 times Georgia 5A State Champ, Won Sr. Nationals

Camron Couch : 3 time All-State from Texas

Carson Field : Won the 5A Georgia State Championship as a senior...Fargo National Champion as a sophomore.

Paul Garza : Arizona 5A Division II State Champion as both a junior and senior.

Dean Pavlou : Tennessee Division I State Champion as a junior and senior...member of two-time state championship team.

Cody Sliger : Two-time Tennessee Division 1 State Champion

  9. I don't want to come across as just being mad because the State is leaving Chattanooga. I hope the tournament is great in Franklin.

Franklin might have the best spot ................ I do wish Chattanooga had been given a chance to match the Franklin bid. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

I haven't read where anybody has written this ............ Bradley, Cleveland and Soddy-Daisy have always traveled well to the Duals. Now,if they make the Duals, they will have 2 trips 2 weeks apart. That is an extra 2-3 days in a hotel, food, gas, etc, etc.

How many of these fans won't be able to make both trips?

There are a lot of Chattanooga people who would go after work ............ better than 2 hour drive kills that.

Are all of the "Thrilled to have it here" Middle Tennessee fans make up for these fans who won't be able to come?

  10. TSSAA did give Chattanooga the opportunity to counter Williamson County's bid.

    Coach Blair

From the TFP: ???We knew what the situation was in Chattanooga. We knew the positives and negatives. If they had something better to offer, why had they not offered it before???? TSSAA executive director Ronnie Carter countered.

I guess Murfreesboro won't get a chance to bid on the Football, Basketball or the Spring Fling.

  11. From an e-mail from Scott Smith, President of the Greater Chattanooga Sports Committee:

"They told us to put it on the books for the next three years and then called us Friday and said they were moving it. Didn??™t even give us a chance to bid or argue or anything."

Heard Scott Smith on Sport Talk this afternoon and he said the same thing. TSSAA called and told him it was gone.

    NO chance to bid.

Said they had worked with the TSSAA for years without a contract .............. guess they should have had one.

  12. I didn't say, but I believe 6 wrestlers from the team placed @ state.

    3 placed 2nd

    1 placed 3rd

    2 placed 5th

4 of their 6 studs were seniors.

5 of the 14 starters were also seniors.

Must be Cleveland ............. You must not know Cleveland has a ton of talent coming back and coming up.

  13. TSSAA did give Chattanooga the opportunity to counter Williamson County's bid.

  14. I was just wondering ..................... Why would the TSSAA move the State without giving Chattanooga a chance to bid on the tournament? They have put everything else (Football, Spring Fling) out for bids. But, NO bids for wrestling? /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
