I've only heard of a couple of complaints. Seems the majority of HCHS teachers wanted to stay! That surprised me. I was told that we would fill other sports as the current seasons end. It would be hard to get a basketball coach to interview during the stretch run.

On that, waiting to see how moving of the teachers falls out. Who went to what school and such. Let's say our swimming coach moved to EHHS, then we'd have to find one for HCHS. So on.... The last I heard, they want to wait until each season finished to find coaches.

As a few guessed, Matt Jones was hired on February 1, 2007 to coach the East Hickman Eagles. Coach Jones and his wife attended the HCHS vs Hillsboro game last night. He is fired up and ready to get his team together! There is no vote by the Board as they only have one employee, the Director of Schools. The official announcement will be tomorrow, but the Hickman County Times has already made it public. Below is the article. From the Hickman County Times: An assistant football coach at Creek Wood High School in Dickson County has been hired as the new first head football coach at East Hickman High School. Hickman County Schools Supt. Jerry Nash said Matt Jones, who also teaches biology, was the best of four candidates he interviewed. He had been ranked first by the search committee as well. Nash said he made the offer on Thursday, February 1, and was awaiting a decision by Jones. The superintendent interviewed four finalists on January 28. Jones accepted later in the day. "He has a strong academic record teaching biology," said the superintendent, adding that his Gateway scores were good. "He has enthusiasm - he just made a strong presentation." Jones is an assistant under Chuck Daniel, a former head coach at Hickman County High School. The superintendent said earlier that hiring a football coach was among the early priorities because of the equipment that must be secured, and because the program will be expected to hold spring practice. Finalists included Michael Harrison, an assistant coach at HCHS.

I can PROMISE that it will be made on Monday. As soon as basketball is over, we start that! More fun.

Well, I can't dispute your "sources" since DrNash did the interviews and he never tells anyone anything until it is time. We're out of school Monday and Tuesday so I doubt anything other than a possible call to the coaches would happen before then.

The site is working. At least when I just clicked on it worked. But you know how computers can be!! On Saturday, they are supposed to present to the Board the ideas for staffing the new school. During the staff meeting, they only mentioned teachers. The didn't mention any coaching position other than football coach.

Interviews: The last I heard, the Director of Schools will interview the final four on Sunday. I haven't heard if it is all four in the room at once or one at a time.

Oh geez. Let's spell this out. Nine finalists round. Five with ties to HCHS (not EHHS). Four with no association at all. NONE. One still with the system. Four finalists round. Two from west. One from middle. ONE with Hickman Co. ties. Hardly all from Hickman Co. I know nothing of their head coaching abilities. Why? None have been one. If you knew the people on the selection committee, you would understand why the final four were picked. I asked you to predict the winner and you haven't. I now ask you who the "cronie" is? You ask what "does it say?" It says that I am defending our school system and the selection committee. There is no "cronie-ism going on. No one that will be teaching at HCHS was on the original committee. I have never "defended" anyone running for the job. Just tried to correct mis-information. You're keeping me VERY busy.

You've obviously missed the point and the fact that mafia brought it up first. I just said we didn't know what was going in in DC. So I guess we're not going to be talking about basketball?

I was going to leave this one alone because all you want to do is flame. Well, others can play that game as well. As BrIcK knows, we have great HC assistant coaches that come from HC that played college ball. But, as you know, the past is the past. The past doesn't matter. Only the parents of the current players remember great battle with BA and the clobbering of most of the other teams. The players have to learn to win again. Coach Swenson and the assistant coaches will teach them that. Since you seem to know where the finalists are from, where is that? Two of them had probably only been in Hickman Co. once. That was the interview. Besides, why do you have to keep comparing the hiring of a coach at East Hickman to anything anyone has ever done? You don't know squat about what's going. You've just heard from a cousin's, brother's, sister's, aunt's, son that goes to school here. Get involved in the new booster club or something to find out what is happening. It's like us wondering why Dickson won't play Creek Wood in basketball or football? And in baseball they get clocked by CW. Again, who is the "good ole boys" you keep talking about? Spit some names or hang on to it.

Well, as I said earlier today, interviews are Sunday. So no one knows who will be chosen. I just relay what I've been told by the admins here.

Let us know who you think? The guy doing the interviews doesn't look at coacht so it won't sway him any. Your guesses at finally three were a bit off, one out of three correct. There were many reasons why the final four were picked. Good ole boy stuff wasn't even considered. The four with the best presentation that CAN teach were chosen. They're not just hiring a coach, but also a teacher. And no, I don't know who they'll hire.

There have been many rumors on who has or hasn't applied. From Flatt to Dyson to NFL coaches. Not by you, but all around here. Kind of funny to think how a small school, new school at that, has generated so much interest. Most don't even know who was on the interview committee, yet they seem to know the decision before it is made. There has been no announcement when the final decision will be announced. As soon as they let me, I'll post it.

Some of those decisions will be made in a couple of weeks. The administration will be doing a Board Retreat to talk about teacher requests to transfer.

Uh, different school, different administration, ... Why would you even compare the two? If you were looking for a coach, would you want a middle TN guy? That might stick around a while? You did notice that some of those that left went to or created winning programs? As far as the 40 coaches: some were looking for their FIRST experience in coaching, of any kind. Some were using forms letters, sent to everyone on the TSSAA board. Some were looking for big bucks or just wasn't qualified to coach JrPro. The narrowing down to 9 was easy after all that. The nine finalist are all good folks that know football. When you learn the whole story, then come back and put your two cents in. Oh, please, I beg you please, never compare us to Dickson.
