  1. Who is available ? I wonder if any alum of LaVergne High school applied that are certified to Teach. I would love to see a former Wolverine Be Head Coach if any of the former alum have the resume & qualifications for the job. Donnie Lowe, Chris Grimes ? Those were 2 of my fav that came from the school. Good People also. What is Donnie doing, This guy was a leader and I believe he would make a positive impact on the kids...Does anybody know? I know the Grimes kid spent a yr at Tech under Watson Brown while he finished undergrad & now he's a Defensive GA a cumberland University. He was apart of Hester staff last season. Did Ralph Thompson re apply, Does anyone think they would go out of state looking to get a Coach.

    Thanks

And guys lets keep the negative talk down & lets Be positve.

I did not re-apply. After Mr. Daniels submitted me as his choice for Head Coach, you see what happened to him. I don't want any part of that kind of thing.

  2. Yes he is a man amongst boys out there. I had a chance to see him three times last fall. I watched him in Maplewood's jamboree when they played Antioch. I also saw him in Maplewood's season opening win last year on the Saturday night in week zero when they beat Memphis East. I also saw him play on television when Maplewood played Hillsboro on the Thursday night television game. Are any of those other big linemen back for Maplewood? They were a gigantic team!

Is Parks back at WR for Maplewood this year? He was a playmaker!

Parks signed to play ball at Jackson State University in Mississippi. He will be missed!

  3. James Stone - Maplewood. 6'5" 300 lbs. #1 in TN, #36 Nationally (Unapproved Website). 21 Major D-1 offers. 28 ACT. 3.8 CORE G.P.A. in all Honors & AP courses. Never made less than a "B" in his academic career! U.S. Army All-America Game Jan. 9th, 2010!!

  4. Hammer meet nail! This loss needs to be put squarely on the shoulders of Bennie Monroe! Ted Gatewood built this program and this guy is doing an excellent job of running it in the ground. Does Monroe actually think it makes him look smart by running the wing t one week, the spread the next, the I Formation the next? No wonder there is mass confusion on the field. It's not like we're playing with McCallie calibre talent if you get my drift.

Brady is becoming Monroe's scape goat and it's not right. This program needs a CHANGE! Let the coaches coach, MONROE!

Also kudos to Maplewood for providing an enjoyable atmosphere.....can't say much for the facilities.....but Ralph Thompson is a class act. I'm standing around before the game and the head coach comes up to me and talks for about 10 minutes and we talk about the guys that are being recruited from Maplewood, his time at UGA where he played, the UGA-Bama game etc. He is an absolute class act, doesn't take himself too serious, and is a heckubva motivator and coach. He's a guy that when his kids grow up, and they're working every day.....they will actually have fond memories about. Imagine that!

I am now a Maplewood fan and will be rooting for them the rest of the way.

Thanx OwlPride for the kind words and the conversation we had. I have tried in vain to get our facilities upgraded. Such is the plight of inner city schools. I wish the Owls a successful rest of the season, and hopefully we can keep this series going well into the future.

    Go Owls!!!!!

  5. They aren't showing that game yet on their schedule:

We are finalizing the contract through Metro Legal. It is just taking longer because this is the first time wazoosports has broadcast a public school in Davidson County. They are just making sure all i's are dotted, and all the t's are crossed.

  6. What type of style do they play,,,man? zone, press, do they go up and down alot?

    just curious

Coach Wilson has done a great job with the boys at the Wood. From seeing them this year they will play zone, man and press. I think his mentor(Doc Shelton) has really influenced him and the style of basketball that they play.

  7. Did you used to coach at a Nashville/Metro School?????? I am really trying to figure out who you are. It's obvious that Coach Thompson believes that you are Richard Campbell, WOW!, but that's obviously not the case. If he isn't RC than TooSicks you might be sick because you just inserted your foot into your mouth clowning on the guy.

    To TooSicks,

I can't believe that you are actually a head football coach and you get on here letting it be known that you are going to be good. THAT TAKES BRASS ONES MY FRIEND!!!!!! I do believe Maplewood is going to win Region 5-4A and make a deep run in the playoffs (all the way to the BC Bowl as a matter of fact) but still adding fuel to the fire in the preseason certainly doesn't do you favors in any way, shape, or form.

Those 5 games against Pearl-Cohn, Tullahoma, Whites Creek, McGavock, and Hillsboro are going to be tough for your Panthers

Points well taken Big Country and Whatchacallit. I flew off the handle thinking I was being attacked by someone I thought was a good person. True enough, I made a statement about Casey Smith because of past dealings with him and I shouldn't have brought them to the message board. Big Contry, I wasn't braggigng that we are going to be great, I was saying that we would be looking forward to week 3.

    Whatchacallit, what has metro become?

  8. I don't think Tennesse has offered anyone from Maplewood. I am pretty sure the only in state kids to have offers are Golden Tate, Chris Donald, Harrison Smith, Rae Sykes, Tyler Maples, Alex Watkins, Todd Campbell, Anthony Anderson, Roderick Davis, Tavis Hogsett and Kevin Cooper.

We'll see what happens after the senior camp this Saturday!

  9. That list was made mostly off of offer lists. I didn't know about most of those Maplewood kids. Do they have any firm D1 offers? Most if not all of the prospects on that top 30 have at least 1 or more D1 offers.

The Maplewood boys have offers from several schools:

Majors (its misspelled in the magazine) LB - UT, Memphis, Louisvile, Marshall, Kentucky, & all the OVC schools.

Jones - LB/SS - UT, Memphis, & all the OVC schools.

Holt - RB - Arkansas State, Eastern Kentucky, Carson-Newman, & the OVC schools.

[i]Moore - WR - Louisville, Marshall, Arkkansas State, & the OVC schools

  10. Ralph, stay off of criticizing others like Casey Smith. It aint his fault he dont have an uncle to save him from getting fired, then a couple years later give him a job he didnt deserve!!! Besides, he aint allowed to recruit at HL like your crooks at Maplehood. Do you have any more 20 year olds playing?

You cant coach. You got Woods and the little loud mouth volunteer to recruit, and Coach Armstrong to do the coaching. You have ONE good season and you think you are a coach. You are the joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clap! Clap! Mr. 411. Since you know everything, come on out of the closet! Since you know me so well, you must know how to reach me. If you don't want everyone else to know who you are tell me personally.

Job I didn't deserve!! What are your criteria for deserving a head job in metro? I hope it ain't waitin in line until I'm 50 and too tired to actually be an effective head coach. You sound bitter or jealous to me. Since you know so much, maybe its the fact that I played ball at Georgia and TSU, was a grad. asst. to the A.D., and had been on the very first staff at Centennial High School building that program from literally the ground up! HMMMMM, maybe those things played a part in Mr. Braden, (the MHS Principal at the time), choosing me because he wanted someone to basically start the program from scratch! Let's say my uncle did have something to do with me getting hired, (which he didn't!), How many times do you hear, "its all about who you know".

On the recruiting tip. Are you more upset because All the athletes that live in Maplewood's zone and feeder schools finally decided to go where they were supposed to, or that your recruiting game is fading. Nice move getting Smith on your staff, but you should've done like me and hired COACHES instead of hoping the Jr. high kids would follow him to HL! As for Woods and the "little loud mouth", they're two of the finest football coaches that no one has ever heard of in the Good Ole Boy System.

I can't coach? Funny, that's what the majority of people on these message boards say about you! I guess I just have all the athletes making me look good! The difference is, I know what to do with talent, it doesn't just get me to the playoffs, we advance past the first round. Beside, don't tell me you didn't see this coming! I've been working my butt off to get this program back on the map! You and others whooped my tail pretty good when I first got started, but since then, I've added a real staff and my boys have bought into the system. Yeah Armstrong coaches the defense, and he does a fine job, but since you know how to contact him also, you can ask him for yourself who runs the show!!

Now that I figured you out, get them boys ready, and enjoy the gate, cuz everyone is coming to see us at your place week 3!!!

  11. GoVols21 As a Vol fan, I would have thought you would have read the Football Time in Tennessee Magazine. If you did see the mag., you must have skipped the Elite list. You left Thomas Majors from Maplewood off your top 30 list and he's listed as an Elite Prospect. Not to mention Maplewood has 5 guys listed in the State Prospect section. More than any other school in the state.

  12. This thread proves exactly why I have Maryville playing Maplewood for the 4A Championship.

I think everybody knows why Maryville is picked to return to the State Championship Game, but why Maplewood? They haven't been very good for several years, and the've really only had a solid season last year. Not to mention, they have a tough region, they're gonna see two of their region opponents again in the playoffs, and if they get through all that, they still have to go to Melrose in Memphis!!!

  13. i think it was us hunters lane maplewood jus slipped up and beat us by one point i was mad as heck. the only thing that beat us was that darn running back marcus cantrell he's good but not that good i takled him a couple of times he just wouldnt seem to go down but we had a great season wat do u guys think.

Dre, you're just wastin' space on this message board. Maplewood did y'all in twice, even after y'all added players to the team that weren't on there for the first game, and it still didn't matter! I'm sure y'all have talent with all them kids at y'all school, but until y'all get a staff that knows what to do with it, y'all in trouble! Casey Smith is not the answer. He should have stayed at Gra-Mar Middle School were all you need is the best athletes to be successfull! He's a joke!!!!!

  14. I don't know what you're basing your selection criteria on, but in the Football Time In Tennessee book there is a ery good listing of the state's top prospects. I figure if a kid's good enough to be in that mag, he's good enough to be on almost any list.

Terrence Holt - Maplewood is on your list, but not Thomas Majors - LB, Sadaris Jones - LB, Jonathan Moore - WR, and Brandon Buggs - DE.

Maplewood had five players make this list and they are being actively recruited by UT.

  15. Brentwood looked very slow on both sides of the ball. Good size, but slow. Possibly I was expecting to see more dominance by Brentwood, maybe by the end of the summer they'll look like a playoff caliber 5A school should look vs. a 4A school like Stratford, who likely will not fare too well in Region 5-4A. Stratford, while big on the lines, were not very deep. Stratford showed some quickness at the skill positions, but they were all little guys.
  16. they are having alot of problems with gangs from what i have heard, which was caused by busing in people, before they bussed in people it wasnt nearly as bad. They had Rod Manuel a pretty big principle that seemed to keep things under control but he is at a middle school now, the school as a whole just seems to be wetting worse and worse and act and sat scores are a result of that, i believe hillwood and hillsboro were close for a while as highest act and sat scores for a nonmagnet metro school. maybe they should stop busing people in because alot more people moving in to the pasquo area and out in that direction beyond bellevue, i heard some talk about building a school in bellevue again but i dont know if there is any truth behind it...hopefully it will turn around but they aren't doing anything to turn it around

I have to disagree with the latter portion of your first sentence. While Hillwood, (and most every other school in Metro have gang problems, whther you want to believe it or not), you can not blame it on bussing in "people". I attended Hillwood from the fall of 1986 to the spring of 1990 and I was bussed in. During my time at Hillwood there were never problems like this. So for you to blame it on bussing in people is totally unfounded and borderline racist. (I'll pray for you). If anything, it is the mindset of today's youth. Most of them don't have someone at home to put them in their place and be firm about it. The next time you choose to spout-off on a topic, do your research and keep your personal ignorances out of it.
